Thanks Iain, that works & goes nicely with Iain Crosbie's info. I suspect it's the left hand most selector fork on that diagram which has either had the no. 44 screw wind off or no. 51 fork fracture. We will see.
Cheers

Hi Andy, if you have the army reg number 00BD01 for example, then you can hopefully get something from RLC Museum at Deepcut. I think there is a way now of checking the number online before sending an enquiry so that you know they have the records. As that sign is not far down in paint layers, it may have been one of the last units it served with.

Dear all,
on the way back from a local show this evening I lost 4th & 5th gears in the militant. Every other gear works fine. I managed to get enough speed in 3rd to put it straight to 6th & run it the last 8 miles back to base. I can now attempt to put the box in 4th or 5th, take my foot off the clutch pedal & the engine runs as though in neutral. When the truck was hot it felt quite loose when trying to select these gears, rest felt normal. With my Dad tonight, we've checked the movement of the selector rod from the bottom of the gear lever to what we think is the 'relay' or 'remote' box bolted to the o/s of the gearbox and it seems fine. Thoughts are that its a part broken within the relay/remote box rather than the gearbox itself (I hope). 4th & 5th gears are in the vertical plane when changing up or down.
i welcome thoughts from those in the know. The photo below shows the selector rod coming in from the right cab end of the truck into the small relay or remote box bolted to the gearbox.
Regards,
Nick

ok,knowing what it actually costs to provide this service £99.00 is indeed a bargain to get a tracked vehicle recovered upto 6 times a year.
would that cover be applicable to vehicles like my foden 6x6?
has anybody used the service(for tracked vehicles)?
added recovery to my insurance policy for £30 John, asked them three times if they knew what type of vehicle they were covering & they said 'yes'

Looking forward to the news on this...

Bruce's 'para mate' Freddie was on Ch4's 'Helmand - The British Army's Great Escape' last Monday night having been Intel Officer for the fateful stint at Musa Qala 2006.

Try these http://www.bournetransport.co.uk/hgv-bus-recovery-dorset/hgv-recovery-dorset/
Note pay as you go service.
others like Crouch Recovery near Leicester have network contacts with similar companies UK & Europe wide with similar capabilities to themselves

Flying visit today to re do the TP letters & numbers using white primer spray paint instead of the brushed on White hammerite I'd used before. I also found some water proofing spray I'd forgotten I had so gave the canvas cupola cover a good coating. I've also fitted the first pressed metal number plate, will do the rest next week along with some minor painting. Also noticed the n/s chassis rail behind the n/s/m wheel stamped 'G K N S WALES'

With those last few jobs done, levels checked, wheel nuts torqued up and it was ready for its first outing.

We were asked to provide a few vehicles for a local armed forces day show in Ripley, Derbyshire. In total the Scimitar did around 30 miles on the roads over the weekend, it runs and drives well but the handbrake drags a bit causing some smoke. I will back it off next weekend, give it a clean and then it's ready for a trip to Folkestone. See you there!

Sunny weather & time for a trip out, did 50 mile round trip from Ashbourne. Had to repair the o/s/f round indicator as it had come lose, also momentarily lost power to the dash fuel gauge but seems ok since. Few areas to tidy up & paint, hopefully tomorrow. Added the 'keep hold of door in high wind' stickers to the door cards, will do the TP stencils tomorrow.
Here is the Mili at the halfway stop in my parents street.

I've used Nick Sampson - as you say, Barnstaple firm - found them to be good and reliable - happy to recommend them from experience.
Tim
I'm sure I've read about these in one of the trucking mags, an impressive array of services looking at the website.

Excellent, I hope the shows go well. It certainly should turn a few heads. I had mine a bit over 2 years, having bought just west of Hexham. Epic journey to Hastings in a day. There's a few pictures in an album on my profile.
Jules
Thanks for the pointer - I didn't know you could host albums on your profile - you have a smart truck too, nice dog as well. Those Aden photos are interesting, hadn't seen the flotation/sand tyres on the Martian before.

Odd, all British MANs have 2 letter 2 number 2 letter registrations, were they from a foreign army on exercise or have we been invaded?
Good luck to them invading Stoke 😀

I'll now have to dig out & post the photo of my other grandpa who served in the Royal Signals during WW2; there's one photo that looks similar to a Bedford oxc & hard bodied caravan type trailer.
