  1. Hi folks,

    Another question regarding my QL.

It is fitted with a Solex RZFAIPO carburetor which has another number stamped underneath it, this being LJ57. I have a spare Carburetor and this has LK52 stamped on it.

Does anybody know if these numbers mean anything important or are they like a batch or casting number?

    Thanks, Mark

There's nothing listed on those codes in the instruction book for the carb.

That said, these carbs do come in different configurations, so you'll need to give it a good look-over before assuming it's identical. The governor is also pre-set, so I'd imagine it may need adjustment if it was intended for a different vehicle.

Per the QL maintenance manual, you're looking for 35RZFAIPO with:

    29mm choke.

    135 main jet

    165 correction jet

    60 slow running jet

    200 starter jet

150 slow running jet air bleed

    85 pump jet

    2mm needle jet

If you need instructions on setting the governor, let me know.

I'd imagine the number you are looking at could relate to a particular setup or intended vehicle, but I don't know for sure.

  2. Right gents. I stripped out the plug. These came from a DERA site, who have a habit of doing things their own way with kit. :-D and tend to hang on to odd bits for years so could be anywhere from 1940's to 1970's and beyond. The metal is non magnetic, I think machined aluminium. Inert insert is porcelain. Around the edge of the case are five sets of numbers 0568/5938/99/427/7361 No manufactuers name or mark. Funnily enough I do remember it being mentioned that the plug and the connector 'Are of a sort used in marine applications'. Given where they came from, also likely to be explosive safe.

Hope this is of some help. The same mass tidy up included fifty or sixty WW2 Field dressings, so may well be same era.

That looks like 0568 followed by a NATO stock number. If you can find someone with old catalogue information you could look it up.

  3. Quick picture of three pin male plug on my lamp.

Can you give us a look at the insert with contacts and threads?

    I'd start with looking at:

    MIL-DTL-5015 connectors - http://www.militarysystems-tech.com/files/militarysystems/supplier_docs/Amphenol%20Solutions%20Guide.pdf

    62GB connectors - http://www.amphenol.co.uk/sites/default/files/62gb%20catalogue_full_update%2018_09_2013.pdf

I've come across those (or tools for those) in surplus kit.

Please let me know if I was right.

  4. Keep a look out - there are two versions of the burner, so if you get bits make sure they go together. One with a conventional burner and a control that extends out, one with a 6-pronged flower-like burner that has a fixed control.

    Something went wrong...

  5. Khaki Green No3 BS.381C of 1930. I have a paint supplier local to me that I use a lot, however he is having difficulty mixing this colour. I know that I can get this from specialist paint suppliers at great cost in the product and postage but.......

So has anyone got any ideas as to the formula or a modern equivalent that is near as dam it ?

Are they matching from a good paint chip or sample, or just mixing it up to a recipe?

The model making fraternity have a few recipes to mix up a good sample, or you can pick up paint chips, but that wont help if they're already trying to match it.
