  1. I came across this on eBay... looks like the trailer (and barrel)

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=380040785508&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=025

It looks like there is a problem with traction there, the trailer wheel is chocked and the marks on the tyres on the rear of the tractor show it's been spinning, as do the dust clouds.

Is it me or do the trailer wheels look like they are steering?

The rail wheels are visible as well, what a good picture, thanks for posting that.

  2. Whats the guesses as to how long it'll take to do the cab?! It needs a new floor and some parts of the frame are too far gone! Someone give me a challenge :cool2:

Did mine in two weeks (80hrs) primed ready for paint, the square type gutters were the only bits I couldn't make, luckily a friend does that sort of thing for a living :-D

My floor was OK and the frame just needed cleaning and priming, I fitted a new windscreen.

Not all of the screw heads are of the correct type and this annoys me to this day when they catch my eye, it is surprising how much this affects the originality of the job, and they are easier to source now on line.

And you have the advantage of Mrs Madrat who enjoys getting her hands dirty  should be a breeze.

  3. Reminds me of a time in a beer tent when a certain MV owner looked around for somewhere to open his bottle and spied a table with an alloy edging, just right, he hooked the bottle, hit the top and started to drink.

The couple sitting at the table folded their chairs and their nice new table and left in a hurry, not their sort of place really! :nono:

  4. try ARCO they make all sorts of speacilist seals and sell the material to make them.

Thanks Tony I'll look into them.

My wife is taking the skin of the back of the cab. We have only just noticed that the cab frame is in sections and the cab back is fixed to the sides by bolts that go through the skinning.

Has anyone re-skinned a cab back. is it easier to leave the frame in place, or can it come out. If it comes out what holds the back of the cab floor in place?

Mike, I re-skinned all my cab without even taking any of the frame apart, I just took the boards off the center section of the back body and drilled the new back sheeting that way, it was a bit fiddly but it worked. Be sure to use some non silicone adhesive/ sealer between the skin and the frame to stop rattles, so the paint sticks inside, and don't be tempted to not bother with the stiffening folds. (As if you didn't know that already!)

To bend the taper curved roof corners I just welded a big fire extinguisher and a little one to the bench the right distance apart, cramped the sheet to the bench and we all leaned on it till it looked right, so easy after ages thinking how to do it properly!

The front lower side panels can be fitted by prizing the front bulkhead panel away and sliding the pre-folded panel in.

Sorry Bernard I've had a look in my limited spares and haven't any hub seals !

    Thanks for looking Andy

  5. :help:The front hub seals on my Explorer are the early type consisting of flat rubber pushed against the stub axle shoulder by springs. I have a problem with oil getting past due to a large chunk being missing, due no doubt to it being clouted on the stub axle when being fitted!

Has any one got one lying around unwanted or even the later type, long shot I know but I thought I'd better ask.

  6. Hi Chris, because of the rarity I would have thought they would be virtually priceless.

Hence the ground anchor and chain round the back axle!

I suspect that if that one turns up again at Beltring this year the owner will soon find out about HMVF, if he hasn't already heard by then!

  7. Love the idea of the diff in the sump. Wonder if Izzegoni got the idea for the Mini from this?

Really neat, ain't it? And the pivoting rear spring hanger mount for articulation, carries four as well!

The claim Suzuki invented the 4-wheel ATV back in 1983 looks dodgy, too!

Nick, I can't find anything on the REME museum web site, or on the web any where, although I'm sure I've seen pics somewhere in the past, if anyone has found a site with any info could you post a link please?

  8. wot o bernard, if i had known i was going to be on the world wide web i would have taken my hands out of my pockets and put a clean t shirt on,
