As I have always understood it, if you grease them the friction between the leaves is lost and therefore the dampers may not be able to cope over rough terrain. Or speed humps!
The manufacturers instructions re grease would affect which dampers would have been chosen.
Sorry stormin you beat me!

Er, the illustration dates from 1922?

Some pics I bought of Ebay ! Copyright "Camlyn Photos"
If you bought 'em, surely your copyright, otherwise you could have copied and pasted them here and waited for the papers to be served?
Or is that too simplistic?

Bertie do you think the tapping is the Daeht wacth Baelte.
Bl**dy Buzzcocks again!

Bernard,
That is quite possible, I seem to recollect that Rolls used to motor new car engines with electric motors, for a period, to bed in before starting them.
That's what is so good about old photos, a lot can be learned about old ways that may have been forgotten, or jog memories, what will happen when everything is digital and hidden away on old CDs etc? We won't just find them lying in attics then, not really progress.

Which ever mark you go for though a Stalwart is a fantastic machine to own and drive. You won't regret going for one. At least not until it's repair time - then the myopic fruit bat syndrome kicks in  - but them the memories of all those times rumbling around in her will off-set the grief!!
Duncan, I think that applies to any of the larger MVs, With a Scammell and a Stolly you will have a high yeehaaa to oogawdwotnow ratio, and be pretty sure at least one of them will up and ready for a play :-D

I think these engines could well be on load test, coupled to dynamometers. Another photo show a lot of the same type of engine, being assembled and these installed engines can be seen in the background.
Looks like you're right there Richard, I had noticed the installed ones, but not thought it through, the gauges beside and in the opening above gave the impression of generating.
It appears on closer inspection that the fist two have got exhausts connected up and going through the wall above :red:. The manifolds must have the bottom flange blocked off, they also have bigger coolant tanks/systems on the wall. There does not appear to be holes for exhausts above the the second two,
Maybe what is happening is that the ones with exhausts are running under load and the power being produced is used to gently run in the other two before moving them over and firing them up, hence no exhausts on those.
-
Agree really interesting pix, such a lot of period detail, like having vices presumably for a lot of hand fettling of parts, one appears to have a camshaft in it, and how about the complete lack of any exhaust system at all on the generators
Thanks for posting those.

finally a transporter with Matida load
Pity that wasn't a video that would have been impressive to watch!

Does not sound like Trevor, also what has probably mucked it up is that Surrey area are having their show same place, same time.
Trevor came up to me at a show recently and gave me an entry form, when I said I couldn't attend this year he said send it in anyway so that I will be on file and he can remind me next time, very nice bloke, there must be some jobsworth muppet picking up the phone!

forgetting to say the obvious. Anyone not DIRECTLY involved in the operation, to keep a good way off.
When using the capstan winch on my 110, I have a fuel cutoff switch on about 3 yards of flex so I can stand well off to one side for safety.
I had the front bumper against a tree as anchor while winching a rolled LandRover upright, it was in a stream about 15 ft down a steep bank.
I was concentrating on the LR when out of the corner of my eye I saw a MOP leaning over the winch rope with a camera, his chin was almost touching it! With his other hand he held his 4 year old daughters hand!
An exchange of choice words ensued with him upset that I shouted in front of his little girl, when he was only trying to get a picture of the rope winding onto the capstan and what was the problem?
After the recovery was completed I discovered that the idiot LR owner had wrapped my nearly new rope (lovely sliced in heavy thimble) tight back on itself with a shackle on the rope, this had cut it at least half way through, too scary to think about!
Lesson learned, NEVER LET ANYONE ELSE RIG YOUR KIT even if it is a long muddy climb down to do it!

Unbelievable... Would you guys adopt me?
I promise to make you tea everytime you ask.
Praise indeed! and well deserved!

Hope not it was , much longer ago than I care to want to think, the box Brownie I had probably followed me into the ditch. No kidding it did scare the **** out of me. This one was at Twezeledown or that way if I rembemer. The ban on KERR (Kinetic Energy Recovery Ropes) came in very quickly afterwards, as did snatch recovery.
Did it? in which club?
