  1. When we were on a construction project in Canada (Waterleap 1982) back in 1982 we had 2 of thse type of buses allocated for trips out around the area.

One instance was whn we were invited by an ex pat to visit his Fish and Chip restaurant about 30 miles away from our base in Meaford Ontario.

There was a max of 150 of us and about half did not go on the trip so about 75 turned up on the night.

I seem to remember it being a bit cramped so a 40 limit on numbers per bus would seem about right.

The F + C's were not really worth the trip but we showed up to say thanks for the invite.

One of the various vehicles that I did not get a photo of.

    As an aside to this.

There have been attempts by various councils to get vehicles like these only newer used for school transport, stating that they are safer.

They will only be safer if the operating instructions that are in use in the USA and Canada are imposed over here.

When the stop lights on the bus go on everything on that road in both directions must stop until the lights go out.

  3. Just wondering if there is a market for OS Maps printed for the WO or MOD also some BAOR?

Just unearthed a roll them and trying to decide keep or bin.

    Some are reused and reprinted

    Some produced for excercise use

    1 - 50,000 from 1976 about 50

    1-50,000 Scotland 1972 about 25

    1-50,000 Cyprus 1972 about 8

  4. If possible could you let me know what is the set up for the Electolosis in the bucket? And the tank please.

What can be used for Anodes / Cathodes?

You mention Soda / Water mix any quantities?

Anything you should not use the process on?

Following all your posts with interest.

    TIA

  5. During th ecurrent shut down of everything, I ventured into the garage to start a bit of dejunking.

    Found this in a corner.

Approx 17 inch long by 13 across the head. Marked US Diamond Back 1945.

I am thinking an Entrenching tool isssued to Infantry bit small for a vehicle version.

    Is there a value?

  6. I used to be in a TA Royal Engineer Airfield unit based at RAF Leeming.

As par of our vehicle allcation we had 2 Saracens initially from about 1989 to 1992

These bits of armour had all been modified with a Plexiglas cupola over the commanders position.

This was to enable better visibility when doing a recce for bomb damage on the runways, but did create vehicle access problems.

The vehicles had no other purpose other than airfield use.

Does anyone have any photos of these vehicles so fitted?

Similar vehicles may have been at Marham, Coningsby, Waddington, Coltishall, Honington, North Luffenham, Lossiemouth or Kinloss.

    Thanks.

  7. In the entry for RAF Bruggen on the first page, I see no mention of 52 SQN ADR CONST RE normally based at 22 Engr Reg at Perham Down Tidworth back in the UK. I believe that they were allocated to Bruggen and had facilities and vehicles based there permenantly.

From personnel experience I was with them between 1978 and 1983.

Was 52's role not required by 1990? Even with a different SQN.

A similar situation would apply to Gutersloh, Laarbruch and Wildenrath. These being covered by RE units from Ripon, Maidstone and Waterbeach.
