  1. Cab has been freed off, awaiting a lift.

Then the cab to be sent to a fabricator who will build a new cab, the old steel is too badly deformed with rust lamination to do anything with.

Some other bodywork being done in the meantime.

All controls removed from cab, now being cleaned up and painted.

  2. Tip when using a Hydroburner.

Do not set up in a roadside layby and use a convenient pile of chippings to bury the flame tunnel sides.

WW3 will break out within minutes.

Secondly only refuel a Hydroburner with flame off and all pressure released.

Unless you really want throwing in the sea followed by a CASEVAC from Akamas beach ranges in Cyprus to the nearest Hospital with very serious burns.

Fortunately our camp had been set up 5 yards from the waters edge.

The clown of a cook who did this spent 6 months in Netley recovering  and was made Field Cookery Instructor on his return.

  3. On Excercise out of Iserlohn back in 1983 and driving my MK all over the place.

I double skinned the back and lowered it as was usual then dug out 4 Charlie G carry straps and rigged a stretcher up in the roof, the Sleeping bag stayed put for the week.

    Very comfortable.

  4. That sparks a memory.

When I was in the TA with 234 sqn

We went on an exchange, for our 2 week stint, with a US Unit on Cape Cod at OTIS Airbase around 1994.

Besides having a number of flights in Huey's or other choppers or planes and flying over to the states and back in a Tanker KC 135 fuelling a  B52 en route.

While there they had us Tree clearing, Road building and a few other jobs.

Off to one end of the Airfield waas a dump area for stone, rubble etc with a big quarry loader looking afer the loading and stockpiling.

Of course  we had to have a go, which was when we found out that the cab was on the wrong half, a really weird sensation trying to operate it.

None of our regular operators who tried it liked it and found it awkward to use with no confidence in if the machine would stay upright.

No photos taken of it and no idea if it was your 285

  5. I was in 52 At Perham Down , Tidworth from 78 - Nov 82 covering RAF Bruggen.

Then TA from 86 - 95 with 234 Fd Sqn at RAF Leeming.back on the ADR.

One other Michy photo came to light today.

Who ever thought it was a good idea to Cam up a 275.

I forget how many nets it took with the bomb mat trailer as well.

Other photo may be a 275 inn a bag, either that or a Grader in the preservation store area.

  6. We have some progress.

Recently the Loco was moved from Pickering on the NYMR and now resides at the Derwent Valley Railway at Murton near York.

One of the guys working on the Loco has set up a webpage to show progress.

    http://tonysimons.me.uk/Drewry/

Some of the photos are before and after showing the amount of Cab pipework and fittings that have been removed.
This is so that the cab can be removed to fabricate a new one. The existing cab is too corroded to be reused.

Does anybody have any photos of its earlier life at BP Saltend up to 1984
or any of the other refineries or even in military service.

  7. Does anybody have any photos of these trailers used in the repair of Bomb Damaged craters on Airfield Operating Surfaces.

Self loading Bomb Mat Trailer usually towed by a Haulamatic, Empty, Loading and Loaded if possible.

Screed Beam trailer, usually hauled by a Haulamatic. Both Stowed and loaded configurations if possible.

Sykes dewatering pump usually hauled by a Bedford 4 tonner MK  or a TK

    6kva Generator Trailer. usually hauled by a L/Rover 90

Compactor drop weight trailer, usually hauled by the Compactor Crane.

I would like to use the photos as part of a presentation and not for commercial use.

Missed my chance of taking any photos when I was behind the wheel of a Volvo Bucket or as a Crater Commander.

    Thanks in advance.
