  1. IWM has two airportable, not too sure what models they are.

One has gone to London, and the other is going in the American Air Museum at Duxford.

    Neither are in working order.

Last time I was in workshops at Duxford, early last year, they were restoring one for a customer (maybe another museum, not sure!) And was told they had one other to do maybe keeping for themselves!

Also a mate dragged one over to Arnhem last September for a one off foto shoot.

It was a race with a Dutch guy to see who would finish and get one there first!

He had a mountain of probes getting it there, borrowing a trailer and Landy to tow it. Trailer sheared axle at Dutch port, took a day to find parts and get roadworthy again!

I bumped into him just before foto shoot, but he couldn't get it running right. Everyone just standing and taking pics while he struggled. I was in full airborne kit, but still whipped out the Leatherman and stripped carb. Did this couple times, and got running well enough to get to location.

It's based on the only known footage of a Clark Airportable at Arnhem from a German film.

We mapped the location to a corner of a junction, which had a modern block of flats on it!

We got the dozer, jeep and trailer set up as per film footage and took our pics.

The guy in the flats wasn't impressed with the lawn afterwards tho!!!😬😬

I wouldn't mind if someone has any access to those pics as my camera was knackered and lost his details!!

  2. Speak to a guy called Tony 07966379748

Has his own private courier company, pick up and delivery nationwide, fully insured and highly recommended. I've used him for everything from cast iron baths to deactivated weapons!! (No, not building a tank!!)

Size wouldn't be a problem just depends on weight!

Speak to him, he may help or have contacts for you.

Tell him Paul Dutton recommended him.

    Hope this helps

  3. As above, we need pics for our daily fix!

If you planning on doing other vehicles, don't buy cheap as won't last.

Sandblasting large stuff, hire a large soda blaster and farmers empty field to do it in,plus it's biodegradable so no clean up! For some areas have mobile blasters but some of the blast material bit harsh for vehicle panels!! Small bench mounted blast cabinet for small stuff.

For spraying, about 100 litre tank, and largest CFM you can, May be able to use air tools then like Sanders, drills, grinder etc.

If spraying you will need a vapour trap inline too as well as a filter.

Loads of advice and info out there. Have fun

  4. We went on one of those a couple of years ago in Seattle, there was nothing WW2 about any of the ones I saw all were 'replicas' but all the info inside implied they where genuine WW2 vehicles, I remember thinking that was a little bit naughty at the time.

I would doubt any claims of authenticity regarding these vehicles, even in a newspaper......

I've been on the ones in Singapore, still have bullet holes in them which the crew point out with pride!!

  5. One pointer Mr Commander . . .!!!

Can we have better public parking supervision on the back field for us mere cannon fodder mate?

Was pain last year as public just kept parking their cars in front of displays and sodding off! Some moved when asked, most just gave 'The Look' and carried on!

Bit of a pain as it takes us ages setting up just to have display blocked by Muppets too lazy to park further down field.

My only gripe really, apart from that bloody cider, loopey juice stuff!! You may have to lay on an escort service to get me from bar to tent, apparently I started heading down railway line!!! Lol

  6. Looking for recommendations for a house or cottage that will sleep 6 to rent in Normandy for our 2016 visit.

Always camped previous years but weather has never been that great!

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Richard
