The problem this year about taking British deactivated weapons to Europe for commemorations.
I want to take my Bren to Arnhem in September, as I have every year, portraying a Bren Gunner. Now been told in layman's terms that I could take it out of UK legally but it will be confiscated by Dutch authorities over there!
This has NEVER been a problem any other year!
I'm sure there should be a clause for a one gun out and same gun back. Easy to check and police.
We have to register our weapons when over there, only take them out on approved occasions etc.

Where you based Lee??

Is is this image from an Army pam or from a Sterling catalogue/Brochure? The gun appears to be a commercial Mk4 rather than British issue? I'll have to keep my eyes open for one now. The Blanks look like the German plastic tip blanks we currently use. They're not cheap but I'd imagine the MOD get a trade discount.I've seen the 9mms plastic tip blanks available commercially here. There was a guy while ago trying to get rid of a load. I was searching for blanks for my Sten.
Any recommendations for 9mms blanks in UK, crimped ends only as mines a side venting (closed barrel)

I would say mag load for the Lanchester would be 6 mags. The Sten had its bandolier for 7 plus 1 in the weapon. There are the purpose made / redesigned web pouches for the sten and Lanchester holding 3 each. I've never seen a bandolier for the Lanchester, probably because of the mag length.

I looked at importing one from Spain, transport was anything from £1-2K on a transporter, yes greater distance than you, if you know the weight it will be easier to find out if possible, I did consider the site below, they were helpful but again needed the weight

Another site was shiply
Hi
I've just imported three British Mortar Carriers from NZ, apart from declaring them as personal use and obtaining import license (all free online) they only cost £3,000 in a 40 foot container. I did have to pay tax and import duty, plus dock handling fees. Wasn't as bad as thought,
Speak to a couple of import agencies first or transport/ container haulers.
Good luck with your purchase.

I bet they WISH they had 60mph chieftain tanks in ww2!!😂😂

Just paperweight now. Glad all mine are early deacs, full strip, removable barrels and even chamber rounds in some! We have the most stringent deac laws in Europe, they should just follow our specs. I go Arnhem every year, take much Bren no problems. I see some of the weapons the Dutch and Germans take, poor sods. As for the Poles, a different kettle of fish, let's say!😎
I've always said it, that it's easier to actually make your own firearm than 're-activate a deac. Look at the Sten, I could knock one up in a couple days. Just basic machine work.
A South African friend was telling me as kids they made 12 bore shotguns from pieces of threaded steel tube, and that was for fun!
Why go to bother of reactivating when they are readily available on the market in Eastern Europe. $300 gets you an AK.

I will take BOTH please. Can you PM me your payment details please?
Thanks

I have tried Welbike and they have everything but the bridge and arm, he is still looking for one for me I hope
as for Villiers Service. they sent me an email that they have every part on the shelf for the VJD, so I sent a list but have never had a reply or price quote, I then asked if the part numbers would help and have had no reply to that either.
Perhaps I will set the alarm and try a phone call after waiting a bit more.
I have also emailed every Villiers or Welbike parts person I could find online, to the point that they told me that they already had requests from others for the same parts on my behalf.
after many years in automotive restoration, I have never had such a hard time trying to throw money at someone.
I am afraid I might have to make the missing parts myself to be able to make my June 1st deadline for Normandy
but I still have hope.
Still recon on the LAWNMOWER MUSEUM!
-
The obvious one for me is WELBIKE UK.
there is also a Villiers specialists, but can't remember the name.
The Autocycle is a bit rare here in UK, but the mower wouldn't be a problem.
Another one you could try is the LAWNMOWER MUSEUM, in SOUTHPORT!! (I kid you not, they also have a Tattoo museum AND pencil museum!!)
Good luck, wish I had a Delhi's myself, love them!!

I've used it on my cars when I used to do the classic car restoration. Does what it says on the tin, but follow instructions to the letter. Two reasons really,
1) it will work and seal as it should
2) IF something goes wrong you have some grounds for an argument.
I've heard of some guys not doing the prep correctly and bits coming adrift into the fuel system!
But I've only good to say about it.

I'm a Brit living in the States but trying to find plans, diagram, measurements to build a WWII British Airborne Trailer. Can any one help? I have already renovated an 1942 British Airborne MB Jeep. I look forward to your replys.
Have you got Rob Van Meels book, British Airborne Jeeps, Modifications and Markings. Some good info in there on the different types and chassis. I have a spare brand new book if you need!
I can put you in touch with few very helpful friends that have them, even a folding one.

Just a note mate, find out if they have a small shunt engine there called LEYS I think. I know it was restored th e re a few years ago. It's the only one left from Leys Mallable Castings Ltd, Derby. They made uk carrier tracks during the war and didn't close until 1984!

Yes, I think so now we are not in EU. Go on the Government website and find out. Or speak to an import company for advice. I've only ever bought outside UK, so have paid import tax and of course the dreaded VAT.
Vat is 20% and depending on your description of goods (agricultural parts seems cheaper!) @1.7%
BUT a trip over there on a jollies, and the 'bits' scattered about inside your car on way back might be the easier option!:cool2:
