  1. Try Ebay for repro sten pouches bandoleers and carry bags , I got a sten carry bag (about 40 USD ) they are made in India and the quality is quite acceptable , the purchase price included free DHL shipping from India to NZ , took about 2 weeks.

    Thanks mate

I'm actually after the ammo pouch that replaces the standard 37 webbing pouch. It's the same but with three compartments inside for the mags. Got my bandolier from ZIB in Hamburg, excellent copy at €40.00.

I'm looking for the extended capacity mag, holds 50 rounds.

You looking for spare mags for your bandolier? Lol.

    Cheers

  2. It's a post war thing and I reckon they would have been modified as required over many years. I believe the problem was that it was a double stack mag feeding into a single stack and this caused friction and binding. The modified mag keeps the rounds in a single stack, hence the 20 rounds.

That explains why I can't stuff more than 20 in them then....!! Don't suppose anyone knows of a 50 round mag for sale do they? Also cheap-ish mag pouch with pockets. Just for static display.

    Cheers

  3. That's correct, they will have 2 brass rods inside the mag and the ends will show at the bottom and near the top (But flattened off).

Any ideas roughly what date this was done please? I understand that this would make for smoother feed in the mag preventing jams.

I have a few without the conversion too.

Still looking for the manufacture codes if anyone can help.

I have about 90 mags, lots of different codes, about 20 in all. The internet has identified about half dozen, just want to see if any interesting one's in there!

Two are Israeli (star of David stamp) I have few different constructed (folded and pressed box) by same factories, Austin etc

    Any help greatly appreciated.

If anyone is looking for a particular make or style mag, drop me a line and see what I have.

    Thanks

    Paul

  4. HAPPY EASTER....!

To revive this thread on a slightly different note, I'm after some (a bloody lot!!) of help in identifying a load of sten mags I have purchased. I have managed to ID some of the common ones but most I can't find.

Can anyone help if I give the factory codes and symbols please?

Also what does I.C.R.1 mean that is stamped on 90% of them regardless of manufacturers code?

    Many thanks

  5. I met a chap last year who does pretty much as you intend to, he got round the business rates thing by calling his place a museum he only need open a handful of days to gain rate exemption. He said with a grin " I open Christmas Day, Cup Final day and two Mondays in December, never had a visitor but it keeps the council happy ". Have you tried looking into this ?

That's a plan, I'm gonna open my depot as a HYDRAULICS MUSEUM!!! Lol

  6. The annual Metheringham airfield visitors centre open weekend is being held on the Sunday 4th/ Monday 5th May 2014. A great event in a historic setting welcomes all military vehicle owners, themed displays and reenactors. Plenty to see and do and BBMF Lancaster fly past confirmed.

I went there last October while visiting the area and taxying on Just Jane Lanc at East Kirkby. Had a great few days down there. Found this place by accident, just driving down a road, stuck in roadworks and saw the sign. Great little place table model was amazing and the radio room.

Go and enjoy, just wish we didn't live so far away.....!!!

  7. Having a devil of a time locating a (very) small quantity of spring steel !

The simple U-clip holding the cranking arm on my 1950`s German generator has snapped and I need to re-manufacture a replacement. Have tried stockists but the do not want to know once they realise all I want is a small off-cut.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

Yes mate, quite a few. We got members as far as other side Cheshire, North Wales, Liverpool etc just in this club.

  9. Yes but that is Holland. The French can be awkward and as a lot of power is devolved to local level it just needs one pain to make life difficult.

That's because they need to make themselves feel important and to bump themselves up!! It's their only little moment of glory....they got to have at least one in life!! Lol

  10. From Goldbeach we have been told De-Acs are OK as long as you have the certificate. Any sort of replica or airsoft definite no. They are even kicking ove licensed Firarms apparently, which contravenes EEC law, but the port officials as I know from last time can be right...awkward.

We are all taking our deacs to Arnhem in September, not a problem with the certs or police!

  11. yes that's me. just got a call from Steve he is coming out tomorrow.

Yeah, I texted him to see. Make it a good day out. Pity the others had plans, would be a good line up. Anyone else you know showing up? I was trying to get lift in Damiens Jeep but not going now.

Looking for my own jeep at moment, got one in mind just waiting for the nod. . . .waiting long time at moment!!! Lol

See you over there mate. Brew up time first job!!

  12. Will be there with the ferret , could be two there if Steve can come out to play . First outing of the year.

  14. You just missed the Malvern sale must of been some there :coffee:

Yep, saw a couple at Malvern but didn't clock the prices. Look out for next sale somewhere this weekend that all the traders go to and don't pay top dollar, I baffled everything down, even a £100 off a no4 Enfield!!!

  15. I believe that U.S. vehicles used orange air recognition panels during the Normandy campaign in WW11.

Did the U.K. and Canadians use a similar panel on their vehicles ?

If so, what size and colour ?

    Thanks, in anticipation,

    Barrie

There are usually some repro one's on eBay every so often mate. I've seen yellow and orange.

  16. Hello Jack

I think you will have a problem with the WD tyres. The tool pouch on mine isn't marked with any maker mark though the tools inside are marked BSA .The front light, I'm not aware of any specific lamp that was fitted to the Airborne Bicycle .

If I'm wrong on any of the above , someone will correct it and aim you in the right direction :) .it

    Dave

The light used could have been the Electric Lamp No2, as supplied to airbourne troops. This was similar to the standard No1 lamp except it had small 'feet' on the bottom to fit onto a bracket with similar clasp on the rear. Small wire loop on front allows the fitting of a green blackout lens. Removal of this exposed the permanent amber lens. Power control is by a knob on the top same as the No1 lamp.

Taken from the book TOMMY, uniforms, weapons and equipment of the airbourne forces. (Excellent reference book, plenty of pics!)

  19. I have seen unmolested examples at the W&P show with a £2000 price ticket. But have a look at the prices a dealer is asking here in UK. http://www.stuart-bray-motorcycles.co.uk/

    Ron

They tend to start about the £850 mark up to about £1500.

Wouldn't pay dealer prices tho,not the £2000 anyway. There is a dealer doing them for £1500 each.

Try PARABIKES UK, they could help.

I'm no expert by the way, just interested in PARAS and Welbikes, so do see them round.

There was one on Evil Bay the other week, rusty n tired out, as a resto project (bit fought to be honest) went around the £750 mark
