  2. ADRIAN l had a  young lady come to work in the workshops before going on to university  with the plan to join the REME after doing a degree in engineering l gave her the project of overhauling the jeep and she did a first class job freeing off all the parts and colour coding the parts when she finished l the helped her power the the parts showing the firing order by stripping spark plugs and fitting small bulbs which light up when the engine rotated  the drive train all could rotate and four wheel could be engaged all powered through a transformer

  3. This is interesting over the years the museum of army transport collected a number of instructional vehicles a eager beaver champ jeep and a few motorcycles plus a range of engine's   were there photographs NO why because  most were only displayed for a short time my idea was one day to have a space given over to them. The only photograph l know of is on this forum when the museum closed there is a shot of some of the engines in the storage area l have been looking for a photograph taken at Bovington at the RAC  center among the instructional vehicles which has up to now not turned up Finally the subject though interesting l think not many people would bother taking pictures of these items

  4. IF you are sure it served with the RAF HENDON may help the RLC cannot help on vehicles sold between 1945 to 1950 as there records mainly show wartime vehicle vehicles with the post 1950 new style. The Chilwell list shows that series of allocated numbers to the HUMBER CAR UTILITY 4X4 . Any of the HUMBER HEAVY UTILITY sold between the 1945 - 1950 were all shown by census number but not by branch of service  identification there are quite a lot shown in catalogues of this period and post 1950 the newer style all covering these periods also the civilian numbers  if not in military use THE amendment list does not show that these were transferred to other branches only the series add to the 1944 Chilwell list post 1944

  5. while having a tidy up of some boxes of clansman stuff l came across a number of unopened boxes  labeled headset-microphone nsn 5965993302287 p number14450200 any ideas of which radio there for

  6. this is my thoughts the younger generation are not able to afford the cost of wartime vehicles so they do not appeal to them. though a few would love to own one and some will buy a ex military landrover because they can use it as ever day transport. My own view on posting vehicles that are been restored is most of the ones l do are for customers they pay for that and if they want to post  pictures of them that is their 'right l get my pleasure from known that they are happy with my efforts

  7. there are a number of options when supporting  vehicles off the ground axle stands which need to be checked blocks of wood or the one which l would chose concrete solid blocks A number of things has been tried with tyres on vehicles that are static and out side one was to fill with a foam painting does not stop the deterioration as there are a number of factors that also effect them out side l have had a lot of experience with vehicles inside and outside in a long term static role .

  8. 30 XC 27 is a black series two land rover converted to VIP PARADE  RMP ESCORT  now in the DUNSFOLD COLLECTION 30 XC 16 is also black and converted to the ceremonial review role both these were converted in GERMANY

  9. 16 YF 67 had the civilian registration number FLD 99 it was damaged in the bombing and after repair gifted to the war department. And was retained by the RASC/RCT/RLC it spent some of it's time on display at BEVERLEY were l had the privilege to look after it. The BEETLES  in the XJ series ran from 01 XJ 01 to  08 XJ  26

  10. l knew of three copies one was at BEVERLEY one l got the other went to some one in CHILWELL l have not seen a copy for sale or any one printing copies from my point l have never wanted to have it copied after what happened at BEVERLEY  there is no reason to think there are not more but who has them l do not know or they may have been lost or  destroyed as so much was in the last days of the               DIRECTORATE OF SUPPLY MANAGEMENT VEHICLE DIVISION at BEESTON

As you suggest any local purchased vehicles and used by BRITISH MILITARY were given a ERM from those in the X  series l have seen pictures of german built buses with  X numbers used by british forces. I to have still guide books from the museum as a side once had a whale of a time with a BRIXMAS G WAGEN great tool

  12.  That is interesting yes the X prefix  series on vehicle numbers were funded by the  FRG for use by the british military in GERMANY but as ever there is the anomaly take the ZB series in among the ones that served in Germany some never saw service there.  THE GPA is one type that appears in the in the ZB series  but records show that some never left the UK

  13. This subject has been the talked about for years in the my early days l collected swatches of paints from a number of uk paint manufacturers who made paints for the war department   from the early 1900's one thing is very  clear they all differed  in the finish colour some lighter and some darker but all with the corresponding  BSC prefix. l could go on but the subject only cause's only more disputes those who think one thing is right  and other's who disagree There are a number of official documents on wartime paints covering painting of WW2 vehicles both from the commonwealth the USA and those made in the  UK some contain reference to instructions which contradict  often held  belief's
