E-MAIL : mogluxmag@aol.com I ALSO FOUND HIS WEBSITE , http://www.lesasdelondres.com ( GOOGLE WILL TRANSLATE THE PAGE ) I,M AFRAID I CANNOT TELL IF THE DECALS ARE WW2, POST WAR OR CIVILIAN. HOPE THIS HELPS, REGARDS STEVE
  2. Hi mike, i,ve just found a couple of photos showing the wing flap and the aerial leads and fittings behind the bulkhead on my lightweight. They may be of use to you. Send me a pm with your home e-mail address and i,ll send them to you. Sorry but i still haven,t worked out how to send them on here. Steve
  3. Hi mike, the holes in your wings , containing the cables ,would have been covered by a hinged flap which would have been screwed/bolted through the small holes at the rear of the cable hole. At the top edge of the flap , which if i remember right was usually rounded over like a tombstone , you would have two " twist ,n, lock" fasteners to secure the flap down to the wing. The cables when not being used, would be tucked away under the fastened down flap. The flap was of pressed metal with a raised portion in the middle that the cables were run through when connected to the tuaam box. The flap could then be fastened down without trapping the cables. The aerial leads should come out of the bottom of the wing box , be fastened to the inner wing then make their way along the chassis, emerging through the floor in the back of the rear body, either as loose leads with connectors on or as in the case of my lightweight , the leads were fitted to secure aerial fittings on the top edge of the bulkhead behind the seats. The leads do not come out anywhere else on the wings. You are definitely missing the flaps on the wings. It may be worth joining the "ex-military land rover association" or have a look at their website. They also have radio gear for sale at times. Hope this helps steve.
  4. Hi mike, i,ve just seen your other photos of your wings on your restoration blog , i,m now certain that the holes are for mounting wing mirrors. Steve
  5. Hi mike, i,m inclined to think that they are simply mounting points for wing mirrors. I have just been looking at page 94 of my copy of " the military half ton land rover " which shows a civilian swb series 3 , modified for military use , which seems to show the mounting points in roughly the same positions. The only other possibilty i can think of , is perhaps for mounting earlier larkspur radio boxes or running cables or aerial leads into the larkspur boxes. Sorry i can,t be of more help. Regards steve.
  6. Hi tony, long time no see/hear !! Hope dad and everybody is ok. Will send some photos asap. Look forward to seeing you all and pestering you for a set of truck stencils ! Just a quick question , do you know of anyone with a good pair of 8.25 x 20 michelin xy tyres ( road pattern ) ? I think they were used / are the same size as on the front of your half-track. There is a modern equivalent , i think , in the same size . Any leads would be appreciated. Many thanks , speak to you soon. Steve
  7. hi willys, i found the truck in leeds , so not too far away from me ( goole ). I will post some pics as soon as i have time to do it, sadly work is slowing me up at the moment - determined to get to elvington though ! Regards steve.
  8. Hi all, thanks for your replies. I have a tailpipe to measure , donated by a friend of mine so hopefully the exhaust will be complete very soon. I have had a look at the truck today - it appears the radiator is leaking so the best thing will be to re-core it and the wiring at the headlight end of the front chassis loom needs a tidy up. Otherwise i am very pleased with the condition of the truck. I am definitely aiming to be at elvington steve, so look forward to seeing you and bodge. At least you will be easy to find in all the greenery !! Best wishes to all, steve
  9. Hi all, after looking since may last year i have finally bought a 1945 353 a2 jimmy !! Has a few minor problems such as seals, etc and the brakes will need checking over .the only piece i need is a new exhaust tailpipe if anyone has one ? The previous owner managed to run over the pipe with the truck !!! Rex ward does not have any in stock , any help would be appreciated. The open cab truck has no rust , paintwork and tyres are serviceable for the time being so just general tidying up to do. Hope to have the truck ready for elvington in may. Will post pictures when i get a chance. Even our neighbours say they are glad to see something big and green parked outside the house again !! Regards to all steve.
  10. Hi Steve, I first heard the rumours over a year ago about a museum at Catterick , one of the lads at work who was an RMP at the garrison told me about the vehicles arriving and being put into storage. I will have to ask him if he,s kept in touch with anyone still on the camp. If I find out anything I,ll put it on here. Steve.
  11. Hi all, Has anybody heard rumours that a military museum is to be established at Catterick garrison in North Yorkshire , apparently a lot of vehicles are rumoured to be held there following the closure of the Transport Museum in Beverley. I did read somewhere in one of the magazines that a museum was going to be set up " somewhere up north " but no details were given. Steve.
  12. Hi iain, you,re very welcome. Beers are going down well !!! Regards steve.
