  1. I am hopeful that there will be enough structural integrity to get a few uses at least, time will tell. Martin.
  2. So based on Richard and Tim's info I just bought this which will require a slight modification, its from a motorcycle shop and is used on the swinging arm nuts on various models. Off the shelf its 33mm ID and 43mm OD so it will need the ID increasing by about 3 - 4 mm.
  3. Tim, Fantastic - picture as usual tells the whole story, now it all makes sense. Can't thank you enough, now to convince my machinist buddy to get the mill and lathe fired up. Cheers, Martin.
  4. Richard, You may be thinking of this which is used for the inner seal I am told: Now if only I had the dimensions! Cheers, Martin.
  5. Richard, It looks like a slotted nut and a locking tab washer from the parts manual picture, are you saying there is a special tool that is required. Thanks, Martin.
  6. Tim, Perfect! I didn't want to pull the box out without having the puller and to make the puller I needed to take the box out! Ergo, dimensions are needed and you my man have made me a very happy guy! Cheers, Martin.
  7. Hi All, I need to make one of these: So I need some dimensions of this including the location of the holes in the perimeter, the one the spring loaded plunger locates. If anyone has a spare box that they could take some measurements to facilitate the tool fabrication I would be most grateful. TIA Martin.
  8. Chris / Richard - perfect, picture explains all and as usual you guys are the best! Martin
  9. I will be removing my Scorpion gearbox to fix an oil leak. I am told to make note of and mark where any shims go at the removal stage so all can go back where it should on reassembly. This is very important in regards to the 'fifth bolt' on the rear of the gearbox as this sets the 'tilt' and hence the alignment in respect to the drive shaft. Any tips / tricks from those that have done this and that a 'newbie' should be aware? TIA Martin.
  10. Well my seal hunt is yet to produce anything for the outer seals. This original supplier quoted a cost so high that I may as well buy another gearbox or two! If anyone here have a few stuffed in the mattress let me know. Happy Christmas all. Martin.
  11. Richard, I actually had found that trelleborg made the seals, found this in a NSN cross-reference and emailed them asking about seals referencing this info: Trelleborg Part# 835-163-7280-21 / 835-163-7280-29 or FV792974 Lets see what I get back. Martin.
  12. Richard, As usual you are a fountain of knowledge! I will see what transpires re get any made etc. If I was in the UK I would try and cull a few bad gearboxes and dive in, probably like a Swiss watch, comes apart, now what  Martin.
  13. Thanks Chris. From the parts list they are steel case, plastic PTFE element BUT they are directional as in the Rh side is for anti clockwise rotation and the Lh side is clockwise. These are not straight lip seals but helical maybe? I just love Google: MONO-DIRECTIONAL HYDRODYNAMIC OIL SEAL Used for oil sealing where the shaft rotation is mainly in one direction such as automotive line application. This seal has designed into the lip a series of helical raisers that create an uplifting action, thus, effectively reversing the oil flow. This gives a longer seal life in the more critical applications. The mono-directional hydrodynamic seal is used to great advantage in Timing Cover Seals - Crankshaft Rear Seals - Gearbox Input and Output Seals - Pinion Seals.
  14. If I had some seals made would there be enough interest for a "group buy" I wonder? I have made some inquires here in the US so will see if its even a possibility. Martin.
  15. Hi Robin, I have a parts list that covers most of the sub assemblies, I have attached a scan of the end covers section that I believe applies in this case. I have asked my previous parts supplier for availability of the seals etc. endcovers.pdf I plan on removing the gearbox over the winter and fixing what I can given a supply of parts. Cheers, Martin.
  16. My Scorpion has an oil leak which looks like its from the output shaft at the gearbox in this case on the right hand side, anyone replace these seals and got any tips? It's not bad but bad enough to cause hard steering due to the oil film on the steering brake disc. Cheers, Martin
  17. All fixed, thanks for the info in this thread, perfect! Cheers, Martin.
  18. Completely missed the obvious there! Thanks.
  19. Having just come back from a parade and had an unusual clicking noise and a clunk associated with the main brake and 2 bolts backed out of the drivers side final drive I can only conclude that the bolts in question probably are the caliper mounting bolts! That said can some one confirm which bolts on the final drive are the ones that hold the caliper? I will pull the front deck plate this week and see what the damage is (hopefully nothing major.) Regards, Martin. FV101 04 FD 62
  20. This might help, later in the video is the inside of the turret of my Scorpion.
  21. Yes, having just changed out a turret battery in my Scorpion I have to agree that it's very tight in there!
  22. Looks like the paint stick my Dad once had, a thousand coats later and the 3/8" dia 'stick' looked like a lolly pop on the business end! Martin.
  23. Peter, Many thanks indeed, I am going to have a placard made up so this is available at the shows etc. that I will be taking the Scorpion too. Being in the US not always easy to find a subject matter expert. Best, Martin.
