  1. I would have thought the only problem is that of the driver's licence, but my own view is that if not done for hire and reward it's the same as using any other private motor car to tow, i.e. if I tow my mate's car with mine, so I extend this to the militant if I have to tow anything, as in essence it's a PLG, but has free tax and no mot on the basis of it's age, and non-commercial use.

If you were to come a cropper, it would be with your insurance company, and if they are happy that the tow is private, I think that is it. I know others will say different, but I've done this for years with no ill effect.

I don't see what benefit it would offer whether the vehicle is tested, insured as a wrecker for commercial use and the driver suitably licensed, given that you are not using the vehicle commercially?

I always consider that if the worse happens, will my insurance pay out? If so, then I must be on the right side. If anything, you might find that it is the vehicle being towed who's insurance is invalidated? As I queried recently whether I could tow a FH70 behind the militant, and was told that it would be covered for third party claims, but not for damge to it unless I sought extra cover.

  2. can't help thinking when I see them going through the obstacles in their modern tackle, how much more interesting it would be for them if they were in something like the militant, in fact the militant would be perfect if you had Kyle in the cab - you wouldn't be able to hear him :)

  3. watched this and suddenly had my first experience of feeling old, when I saw lasses my daughters age driving. I thought when I first tuned in that they were on a taster/ work experience from school!

Totally agree that Kyle is a tw*t, hopefully he gets run over later in the series?

  4. Hi Rob,

sorry to hear you're a clumsy pillock! I fell out of the cab last year, slipped on the top step, landed on the floor whilst still holding onto the top handrail, felt like I'd been on a medieval rack.

I might have an air gauge if you're stuck, just need to have a rummage. Militant looking very nice, it'll look beter when you start to put the green on :)

  5. Ad says it drives well, but looking at the rust on the compressor pulley, how long has it been stood?

'Starts with a tow' - that could mean anything from having flat batteries to a cabbaged electrical system. Looks like someone has rung all the life out of this and is now looking to get a profit out of silly buggers like us who restore stuff.

Good luck to anyone who takes this on, but I suspect it'll end up going for scrap.

Anyway, something a little happier, the militant that came in from the cold..
