Dont think its US,French possibly?

Hi,
Just wanted to ask was the Combat cap a standard issue item to troops or an optional thing.
Regards,
Lewis
Thought they were pretty much despised as worn during initial recruit training?

No idea about the other/missing badge but the 78 is not the date code.
The CT4B will give you an indication of its age------

Have 2 pairs so could possibly/maybe let one pair go but have no idea of what these are fetching these days.

I have a non issue DPM 60 Patt Smock,no idea where it is now but sure I posted it up here when I bought it if any help.

=Scotch Harry;458960Ebay recently has been swamped with SAS Bergens and prices have dropped a LOT so now is a good time to buy(but not sell as I found out:undecided::undecided::undecided:) and SAS Bergen.
Yeah there has been alot poping up on ebay usually they get snagged by brokenarrow1971 who relists them at stupid prices:wow:
Brokenarrow71,now that doesnt surprise me:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:
The one I sold a month or so ago on Ebay was in my opinion a very very nice one complete with frame etc and from memory sold for a poxy £37. Not that long ago you would have to pay twice that or more for a decent one.

Unfortunately when you rely on Ebay for 99.9% of your militaria thems the prices I have to pay so £18 posted is a very fair price for one in such good condition.
-
You think that was over the odds for a nice early pack??????
That was a bargain.

They probably will be at some stage, came with some other bits and bobs and dont fit into my collection.
-
Wow,as early as that,interesting.
Many Thanks

This is the correct type of chinstrap but wouldnt expect to pay more than around £4 for one to be honest.
Earlier helmets were fitted with the MKIII khaki elastic chinstrap and I gather some of this type of helmet-in RAC use? were fitted with a khaki QR chinstrap but for your helmet the green type would be more suitable.

Any ideas of age, thinking 50s maybe and are they just sunglasses worn by personnel or some form of pilots glasses?
Many Thanks

Hat, Dangerous Brian/Deputy Dawg. Got this cheap buried amongst a load of Dutch ones. Made by Compton and Webb(headdress). Now I'm just looking out for one of the more commonly seen version but pre-D.P.M (so far the only one I've seen is in an old cold war exercise photo of A.A.C in winter)
Did the British issue a non DPM cold weather hat?
Probably be a foreign one you have seen in pics,Norgi maybe as the Norgi Green Ski Type Caps were also popular.

1966 dated size 5, 60 pattern combat smock. Evidence of Para wings of some sort having once been attatched. came with Sgt stripes attatched, although the right hand side ones are a bit skewiff. looks as if it's had LCpl and Cpl stripes at some point as well underneath the Sgt's ones.

All the signs of a professional, back when we came under C.I. 5

Not 100% sure on date etc of this one it's about a 6 3/4- 6 7/8 or 54-55cm as it fit's my tiny noggin perfect, evidence it once had a cap badge inserted in the front where a small slit's been cut into the pocket bit. No idea on what units would have had these.

Very nice bits there, that type of helmet was also used by RN gun crews and also Royal Marines for riot/crowd duty. plenty of chinstraps complete on Ebay and should only cost you a couple of quid.
The last hat is a Combat Cap,50s era from memory and unfortunately missing its oilcloth lining and leather sweatband. Funnily enough only just looking at a complete one on Ebay, reasonably priced at £15 as a smallish size(larger ones go for a lot more).

Having a bit of a de clutter and came across these-any ideas please other than Im guessing they are RAF?

I had the same problem with a brand new pair of desert boots I had kept for years waiting for the right time to wear them-didnt get a chance as had to bin them, should have wore the bloody things when I first bought them.

Thank you very much for the offer Steve;)
Not desperate but would be nice to have one in the collection(sure I will stumble on one in time)and my problem is my budget for collecting is a bit on the low side so depending on what price you are looking for, might be interested but not a massive priority and again, thanks for the offer.

Were these only issued/carried in AFVs or did individual soldiers carry them as well?
Thanks.

I unfortunately never served in the Armed Forces but did a spell in our local ACF in 86/87 and we were issued brand new green hairy mary shirts and most of us complained that they were so itchy and tried many a time to wear a German "moelskin" shirt instead(under our wooly pulleys) but were always caught and bollocked.
OG Rigid PLCE Side Pocket-any ideas please?
