1. Good day one and all, i notice that members have trouble getting things like wheel nuts made, some years ago in my youth

i required the odd item and rememberd that whilst at school we had the old metalwork lessons were all types of machines were available, so visit school seek out metlewok master, a few words and hay presto thay were more than happy to knock up the required parts and produce somthing more than a poker or toasting fork. Any school or collage i am sure would be more than happy to help with something historic and is possibly a way of interesting the younger generation in our hobby.

  2. Way hey let me know dates and pop in for a cuppa!!!!!

It's my birthday before Christmas!!! :)

Well have a great birthday when it comes ( a bit of extra practice time ) my wife and i would love to meet you and hubby, how about we bring a bottle or two from our resturant in Spain instead of tea? :-D will let you know the dates once we are sorted come the new year.

  3. Hello Paul,

my wife and i plus my son and his wife spend a large part of our time raising money for help for heroes, we dress in various kit, wrens, military police, 1940s commando, parras etc at shows around the country we would be very happy to receive any kit that enhances our displays i can guarante that not one item would be sold a nd that should we at some point retire from doing this all kit would be passed on under the same conditions and terms, more than happy to make a donation as we allways do .

  4. Whilst looking thru empty drawers this morning ,took the old news paper out that lined the drawers, and found these underneath!!. They belonged to my aunty who worked on tilly's .K2's etc during the war . Also found ww2 letters from a sweetheart ,who was wounded and was in a nursing home during the late forties/fifties (The star and gater? surrey?)Never did find her uniform or button stick . just her overalls, and hat .............

the Star and Garter is the home of the royal british legion at the top of Richmond hill Surrey over looking ham fields and the riverThames, a very beautifull spot and a wonderfull home for ex servicemen, thay might be able to supply you with further info regarding the person your Mom was connected with you can obtain the phone number from 192.com gratis.

    nice little finds.:nut:

  5. Wooohoooo that's Stoptober done. Wine for tea here!!!!

yep its finnished, time to get some drinking practice in before Christmas go for it Rosie, we will be in England next April sea fishing at and from Hayling Island for a week.:D

  6. Thanks for all the advice, I think just insignia is best which is how I have it now. My problem is I look SOOOO naked against all the guys depicting YANKS!!

As mentioned about the 1940`s service dance, there was the odd (very odd in some cases!!) Home Guard and mostly either civvies or Yanks!!

Felt a bit out of it in just my BD with insignia!

Just remember one british squadie is worth two yanks.:-D

  7. Close to what I see, here is a blow up.

Six legger and what looks like a scout car or something similar sandwiching the civi truck.

heading along the seafront in the direction of the royal artillary barracks at shoeburyness pre ww2 i would say.

  8. The photo is well known. I think it is one of a number showing similar scenes. I cannot recall the details, but it was German units fleeing

the Russian advance and taking their families back with them. I am guessing that the units fell back through their home towns or last posting in order to collect their families and get to the US/Brit/French zones.

If not that, then opportunistic gypsies?

    Regards

    Doug

HOPE THERE NOT HEADING FOR DALE FARM.:nut:

  9. Congrats Jack for quitting the smokes :)

I know I like my bad habits to broken arrow but that's why it's a challenge!!!! No alcohol for a month is a huge challenge for me!!!!!

Rosie i own bars and resturants, what do you think itwould be like for me, had a nightmare last night, woke up thinking i only drank tea.:( Good luck to all that try.

  10. Stoptober is for mainly smokers who are trying to stop but many others have jumped on the band wagon and use it to stop or give up their bad habits.

BUT i likes my bad habits:shocked:

  11. .303Fan,There's nothing quiet about this PETROL scooter!

You would be loved using it at the War & Peace as an alarm clock.

You'd thank god the weapons are deactivated!

It works great since I changed the Centrifugal clutch!

Broken Arrow might bring his over to demonstrate it's quiet abilities to you.

PERHAPS WE COULD DRESS UP AS JAPANES DISPATCH RIDERS:cool2: BEEN INFORMED BY ONE OF MY SONS THAT THAY CAME IN TWO DIFFERENT ENGINE SIZES 50cc or 80cc i never knew that.

  12. Cannot remember the name of them but in 2004 to 2006 there were dozens of shops in Spain selling them, infact two of my own children had them and went everywere on them ( shush thay were only 14 and 15 ) lots of Brit kids had them infact i think there is still one in one of the garages at our villa, must have a look when i get time. Thay sold for no more than 135 to 150 euroes good fun and you could get an upgrade kit to increase engine capasity but never met anyone who ever did.

  13. never said it was used by the SS only, just that most of it was used in the east, there was some in holland and france but as stated like rocking horse poo only tryed to give you the best advice on where to obtain said cases, there was some at one point in the States take back end of 45.

  14. THE ammo you are looking for is like rocking horse crap, it was mostly made in 1938 and used on the Russian front some went to the concentration camps, your best chance is on one of the russian block countrys used cases plenty dug up but must not be live so cases only, thay should be marked with ss runes and tv on the base plus year you will have to insert your own heads good luck.

  15. The old farm Landy. Early 50's model. Broken springs, shackles rusted through, gleaming aluminium - on account of all the paint wore off over the years. One day it was parked on a steepish section of hill. The driver got out... and it rolled side over side down to the creek. The ground was soft, the windscreen was bolted flat, and the few minor dents gained just added a bit of character. No other Landrover could replace it!

I still have one door and the original fuel tank.

thay rebuilt Spitfires with less than that and call it an original, think on young man.:-D

  16. 1966 ford mustang 289 fastback, identical to the one driven by Steve McQueen in the film Bullit, fitted with Gurne Weslake heads, twin Holly highrisers and manual box and brakes upgraded to Discs, makes me want to cry just thinking of its value now and as a bird puller nothing i have owned has ever come close. sigh :(:(:( Sold to get married, 9 months later she cleared of, the only favor she ever did me.
