  1. Help needed.

I’ve started to look at some of the jobs ive  been putting to the back of my mind.

One of these is the petrol tank is poor shape.

    Questions I have….
Any one have a good tank available.
Do I have the one I have repaired? Anyone with recommendation as to companies that can do this?
Or would it be easer to have a new tank made? Again any recommendations?

  2. Bulk of the last two days has been spent working on the gen trailer chassis getting it prepared for sandblasting.
I’ve had to temporarily rebuild some of the engine so I could mount the engine back in the frame while I locate and fit the engine mounts

Then lots of welding to get all the frame floor strengthened back as the original.

Engine is that heavy it was easer to tip the chassis over and leave the engine on the floor.

  4. Thanks for the feedback.

    Trailer shackles.

Think this the hot topic for lots of people restoring these trailers.
I was lucky, I’ve used two trailer to restore one good one. So had some choice.
Lots of heat to prevent them from snapping, fortunately they weren’t worn out.
Heat is the critical bit in saving them.

The problem with the GS trailers and mortar trailers, they have spent the last 60 years being used and abused by builders/ gardeners etc, simply worn out.,

Best option maybe to pick up a donor trailer, take of the parts you need and sell on again, come to think of it, that’s how I ended up with this stores trailer.

I have deliberated making these in the past. But they will be case hardened, getting this right would be critical to the function.

Whether these shackles were used on cars of the period, maybe the little morris. , I’m not sure. ..?

  5. Hi Richard.

Absolutely spot on with your instructions above.

Years of grease and grime, and remanent bits of sandblasting residue had blocked the holes up, seised the plunges from moving, little screw driver, cloth with some thinners, all cleaned up back functional,

I’ve tinned the wires finished off the wiring.

New rubbers for the brakes, now ready for physically rolling it back on its feet.

  6. It’s been a few months, to many other distractions. Managed to get a few days in the workshop, thought I would finish off few part completed projects.

Lockers for the gen trailer now all fabricated. Just need to drill the frames ready for riveting. Then I can get the tin work cropped out and folded up.

Few before and after pictures. Not a lot left of the originals.

  7. Just re kindle an old thread,

I have here No 6 set that I recently acquired.

First few images still packed in its original packing case, later pictures sat on pallet for more detailed pictures.

    Villiers engine, 1943 data plate,

Has anyone information how this set was set up? How does the power get to the distribution board?

  8. Picked a number of these up..

What I think are pallets? But not sure.

There are three different sizes in total.
All have pressings with dates, 1944, 1945.

Can anyone confirm what these were used for?
    British made?
Does anyone else have any of these?
Original pictures of them in use?

  9. That makes complete sense, and inadvertently that’s how I’ve wired.
In my mind I assumed each light fitting would take one electrical feed to the filament and one to the light bulb holder.

Next question… I’ve looked through my extensive box of old car light bulbs. 6v. And not a single small bulb that will fit.
Where do I go to find one. And what I’m I technically asking for….?
