  1. Quite a lot of progress since my last update

Mainly the window surrounds for the doors and the electrics which caused a lot of grief!

Still trying to sort the exhaust, it seems no two Gipsies have the same setup, will probably end up fabricating mine to fit and just do the job.

Getting there, bring on the good weather to paint it!

  2. Clive, will get some pictures of the underside of No5, not sure why I didnt take any before as there was no base to it (can see right inside).

In regards to No1, yes I saw there was one on ebay quite a while back but the page had long expired and I couldnt view anything about it. It seemed a strangely illusive part which looks fairly standard

    Item 4 , FV166354/2 : cable battery pos to radio junction box , LV6 /MT4/LU/815995

  3. Hi all

I recently bought a job lot of what consisted of mainly Larkspur and other post war radio bits.

I have managed to id the majority of it but there are some bits which I cannot seem to find anything about anywhere.

If anyone could give any idea to what they are that would be fantastic!

No1, I the were with 6 Gun control speakers so don't know if they are something to do with connecting those all up?

No2, junction box of some kind?

No3, A Lighting kit of sorts but cannot find any reference to it

No4, Something to connect battery terminals?

    DSC_0455.JPG

No5, CAV box of some kind

    DSC_0489.JPG

  4. Hi there

I have just a fair collection of larkspur bits and pieces including control boxes and cables.

I am still sorting it all out but if there are any particular bits you need give me a shout.

If you are down Suffolk way I am between Ipswich and Colchester and you would be welcome to try bits out to see what cables fit etc.

I think I saw B box mentioned and im sure ive got one of those

  5. Been working on the oil pump issue over the week, nothing obviously found wrong but a good excuse to clean everything up. I have never has the oil pump apart so was good to inspect it so hopefully it will not cause any grief in the future. Also it was an excuse to change the oil, quite a lot of thick oil and debris in the oil tank so that has been removed and thoroughly cleaned. The gearbox is a lot easier to access with the oil tank off so debating doing that now before I put everything back together.

  6. Hadn't realized how long it had been since I updated this!

Lots has been done over the past year and yesterday I took it on its first ride on the road!

    Great fun to ride

A few problems occurred, oil pump seems to be very weak now meaning a lot of oil is blown out of the breather also the gearbox is still a bit twitchy when changing up to 3rd, it's not keen on engaging properly, i have had the gearbox apart before as 3rd would not engage at all previously but it seems what i have done was not enough.

Other than that it was fine, hope to sort the oil pump over the week and will wait and see on the gearbox, hoping to get some spares for it in and swap and change a lot of the worn gears to make a decent gearbox

  7. They are very common over here. Not really much of a value to them as not many people have a use for them, People have often just used the material to make other things.

Might however be more of a demand in Canada, as you say its not something that turns up everyday over there

Edit: Also good as spare wheel covers

  8. Forgot to post the activity from last week.

Decided to get the gearbox in shelter but to do so practically I thought it best to remove the transfer box.

I thought it would take up less space this way (wrong!). It now takes up about 3 times the room! But gives me plenty to crack on with.

I didnt expect to have to dismantle as much as I did but it needed to be done at some point anyway. Worst part to remove was the PTO "pulley" that had been modified by welding a toothed gear to it which required a lot of force and heat to remove, I wouldnt be surprised if it was welded while in place as it really didnt want to shift.

Everything else came apart fine, parts seem in good condition apart from being covered in the rusty, oily slime.

Does anyone know the best place to get new seals? I pretty sure these old ones will need replacing!

Another find under about an inch of grease/underseal a brass battledress button

  9. Thanks for the info. I think there are some remains of grey in places, i assumed it was some kind of primer but what you say makes sense. Probably then repainted red and then postwar with DBG.

Would be interesting to see pictures of these pumps in military service, obviously in my pumps case the towing vehicle had a very high tow hitch as it has the swan neck modification.

Fantastic looking pump by the way!

The best match for the Morris engine colour is called Brunswick Green, easily available via the net, a lot is sold to stationary engine restorers.

Just been looking to get a tin of the paint, don't suppose you know if it would be Mid or Light Brunswick Green? Both seem to look quite similar to what I have left and don't want to get it wrong! :D
