  1. I certainly agree with that sentiment. If I was sitting up in bed with my laptop to read a magazine I might as well sit up in bed with laptop to do some work.

The new editor said that he was going to make the magazine just WW2 with a bit of post-war (although saying that he has published an article on Model T's this last Month). As he has not printed the two articles which I sent him I have taken my keyboard elsewhere and have just had a 6 page article published in Vintage Spirit - this time on the WW1 Fiat 15TER truck.

I personally think content is more important than format. I have always struggled though with magazines that have been converted to an online format - it just doesnt seem to work for me, but might work if designed that way from scratch I suppose.

I used to buy both mags pretty much every month, and on balance preferred MMI as it had more variety. I stopped buying as the prices kept going up but the amount of time it took me to read them got less and less. I get pretty much what I need now from this forum and some of the facebook groups.

One thought has just struck me though is that these mags were much more valuable and interesting to me when I first got into the hobby, and I am not sure a website would have pulled me in the same way - the point is you have to look for a website whereas a mag you might just happen to pick up while you are waiting for a train or similar...

As for the just WW2 thing...well I dont get that at all - why would you seek to reduce an already fairly niche circulation!?

  2. Heybeck garage is the firm at soothill dewsbury he had 2 diamond Ts 980s up until recently one has a converted sleeper cab the other was pretty standard that sold about 2 month ago theirs colours were blue and light blue.

The other diamond on the leeds road belongs to Teales he also has a scammell explorer. His are painted blue/black white.

That's the fellas - do you know if the 980 has gone far?

  3. Just for the record I did not post a price for the GUE, the posts seem to have got a bit mixed up. If anyone should need a new GUE the one I have for sale is £1250.

Still seems very reasonable John! ;)

Reading this post has made me even more convinced that sticking with CVRT's is the right thing for me! It is good that there are people like Paul willing to take these things on though, so good luck with it...

  4. Well I dont know about these two, but I posted a while ago about the two operated out of Dewsbury, and the same fella had a Martian wrecker.

There was also another 980/981 under a sheet on the Leeds Road in a lorry garage, just on the border between Norristhorpe and Liversedge. It is parked next to an explorer/ pioneer also sheeted up and as of this morning was still visible on crapple maps.

Not a bad haul for a 5 mile radius!

  5. Amazing to see them still attached, given the engines propensity for self destruction!

I always liked the 2 seater night fighter with the 4 x 30mm cannon - 3 hits were supposedly enough to bring down a heavy bomber....scary stuff and a good job the Luftwaffe didn't have so many of them..

  6. Timbo you sent this message to me the wrong person indeed...I don't have a friend with Ferret parts in his shed.Wish I did...LOL...I don't deserve any credit for anything...I am learning from all the guys here..I am in the USA.....

OZITIM is doing all the work on his Ferret..He is in some rural area in Australia putting his Ferret together...

    Hi Joe

The praise was indeed meant for Tim - not sure why I quoted you but it's been a long week!

  7. I presume these are the earlier mirrors as described. As already said they do give a surprisingly good view for their size, due to the very convex nature of the glass. I am not sure I would want to use them on the road though.

The main reason I keep them is because I think they look more stylish and in keeping with the vehicle!

  8. I suppose the point I was making is patience is fairly important as most mechanical work is a matter of following a manual eg I rebuilt a Pinz auto box a few years ago and never thought I would dabble with the internals of one of those. But had a good ZF manual and website info.

Very true Mike very true - I've now changed 3 CVRT engines under my own steam, not a difficult task some might say but I'm an accountant fer chris sake! Oh, and no it wasn't the same vehicle...!

  9. As typically the biggest concern is rust and associated big holes created by rust, a course in GMAW (Mig) or GTAW (Tig) welder would earn you a lot of mates. Welding thin material is a lesson in patience.

On the topic of patience, a lot of the resto work is actually easy if not mundane and I think you can just about do anything mechanically if you can read a manual or get advice from fellow enthusiasts. When I was younger I had no patience, try once, try 10 times then smash it with a big hammer from frustration. Now I can try 15 times :D

    Mike

Whilst I pretty much agree with you about hitting it with a big hammer, I think that is the whole point of paying someone to do it for me, coz I would expect something a bit more sophisitcated than just increasing the hammer size - I can do that myself!

Whilst as a restorer/ mechanic I pretty much muddle through at best, I think I would probably make the worlds worst customer if I paid a 3rd party to restore a vehicle for me....

  10. Still learning to edit so apologies for that.

Took a while to make it go bang due to a problem with the main-off-coax selector switch. Although it looked like it the main gun was selected the switch was not fully engaged, which we realised just before giving up!
