    A bit more progress on the engine. Timing case has been refitted after coming back from the shot blasters, new bearings and seals fitted where necessary. New timing chain and tensioner fitted. Block was cleaned, washed and blown out, honed and refitted. Also new camshaft bearings were fitted along with new seals. Also pistons have been refitted with new rings, all have been gapped. Also push rod buckets have been cleaned and refitted on the cam shaft. More photos to follow shortly...

    Oil Pump has been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt plus a few other bits!

    More photos... Bearings are nearly all scraped in. Both heads are rebuilt with valves and all joints cleaned up.

    I have had the block honed, head skimmed, new exhuast valves, inlet valves cut, valve seat cut, rocker shaft cleaned, piston cleaned, crankcase repainted and lots more! More pictures will follow!

    Alot of cleaning has been done, and the engine is starting to go back together now. I have had a friend of mine round, to show me how to let the bearing caps together and then scrape out any high spots in the bearings. It brings the bearing in tighter within tolerance improving oil pressure and takes out the slack that was there. This has saved me having the crankshaft out to be ground with new bearings!!

    The engine is 1939. Its a spare engine i brought, as the one in the lorry had dropped a valve. So i am making a good one out of the two! As for cam shaft seals, i have just been down to a local bearing company who can match all the bearings and seals up! But thanks anyway!

    Well, i thought its about time i started a blog of the Matador restoration. Its been dragged out quite a bit, due to waiting for parts and work commitments, but here are some photos of how far i i have got. Sorry for the muddle up of the order of the photos, but i will try are keep up together with them as and when i do more work on it in the future.

    Hi, Thanks for all your comments. Seems to be quite a topic surrounding this shade of blue paint. Just as a final confirmation, could someone give me the definite colour name and paint code for the "1944" engine please, so there's no confusion when ordering? Regards, Henry

    Hi, Thanks for all your replys, looks like, ill be using good quality machinery paint then, any good suppliers or good brands to go for? Yes Richard, you are right, its the same person/ same engine as mentioned by the machinist, a little way off of painting it but would like to get ready for when I am! Regards, Henry

    Hi, I was wondering what experiences or recommendations people have had with Duck Egg blue heat resistant paint for use on engines like the AEC 7.7ltr? I only found Craftmaster paints to supply this paint, but would really like some recommendations first before going ahead and buying some! Regards, Henry

    I am helping a friend try to find his dads old Dodge 3 ton flatbed truck with the registration being, JG7 967. He has also told me that it was originally brown but has been painted red since as his cousin saw it on the london to brighton run a few years back but forgot to get his details!     Yes certainly good to see it back home as it were! Start of a new side of old machinery for me, so looking forward to starting work on it! I will keep you and your brother informed on progress as i go along! Regards Henry

    Yes, its a good feeling, but the smile on my grandad's face when the lorry arrived after not seeing it for 20 or so years was priceless! :-D Regards Henry

    Here is my recent aquisation, a AEC Matador breakdown lorry as used by my grandad in the 1970's-80's where he worked for Henley Transport as a workshop foreman! Although the ol' girl has a blown engine, it's in reasonably good cosmetic condition, and hopefully will be back on the rally scene in the not so distance future!

    Hello, Having recently taken delivery of my first lorry, a AEC Matador as used by Henley Transport for breakdown and recovery! The engine is in need of a bit of TLC, which i would like to start work on in the next couple of months, so really need a workshop manual/ parts book etc. so that i know what goes where etc! Could anyone point me in the right direction of someone/ somewhere where i can get a print off copy of the manual? Kind regards Henry Bruce
