  2. Mike

I was looking out for your Antar at GDSF, never seen one in the metal.

If you'd have parked it near that trailer I would've had no problem finding it.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune on the way home. Is it a difficult job to repair? Engine or gearbox out?

I'm surprised to see it fits on the recovery trailer, width wise at least. Looks like the front axle doesn't even overhang the standard trailer width. I always thought the were wider than standard trucks.

Stormin, did you get the WLF from Ellesmere ? Also we now have a new MVT Area called the Manchester MVT and we meet at the Lancaster Club, Broadway, Failsworth, not far from your location. It would be nice to see you there next meet is Tuesday 9/9/08 at 7.30pm.

    Sorry to hijack this thread.

  3. It's a double 18" clutch, between the flywheel and the Pressure plate are sandwiched two driven plates and an intemediate plate ( which is itself held in slots in the clutch cover) it is likely the flywheel, both sides of the intermediate plate and the pressure plate will need to be metal sprayed, and machined true. The Clutch release bearing will need metal spraying, the Thrust pads or slippers and their bolts need re-manufacturing, the operating arms need rebuilduilg and redrilling, Anti -rattle springs on the operating fingers need remaking etc. And I have gearbox oil seal problems to sort at the same time.

The input shaft into the gearbox and the pilot bearing may also need work. If the input shaft needs re-manufacture add another £600?? its going to be expensive.

    Mike,

Having got rid of my ANTAR a few years ago only three months ago did I get rid of the last spares, and amongst them were the last clutch plates, have a word with a well known recovery operator he might do you a good deal ? I bought all 20 of the clutch plates from the Peter Court sale for £10 plus vat !

If you need the intermediate plate Isold that to Dave Weedon.

    John.

  4. Thanks for that, Antar. Can you help with any additional info on the history / ownership of this truck before you acquired her?

Denial is just a stage of becoming an anorak.

    Yes,

I bought it of a chap in Kidderminster called Alan who had steam engines. He bought it from a garage in Somerset ? from a man called Mike, all I can recall at the moment.

With regards to Cyprus, the Grey one with PSA on it definately came from there because I know the person who repatriated it, Dave from Staffordshire.

  6. Hi all

This pic was just posted on hmvf on another blog whats the truck in the background?? S26 6x6?? sldt? I have pm the gent who posted for a location and any contact details. I am going to look at the ones in staffordshire grumpy went up there and sait they were ruff but there can not be many around . I am thinking of makeing a artic unit out of one? 6x6 crane instead of the tipper fit a winch? EM!

That picture is the yard in Stafordshire, if you end up making a project tractor unit I can help with supplying 3.5 in pin double oscilating coupling and a perfect hydraulic winch to go on one of those S26's, nearly did the same thing last year myself but too many other projects on the go.

  7. Not wishing to hijack the thread but interested in who the CET track pads are for ? I also have a CET which I may be selling soon, but would like to get in contact with other owners.

  8. How many ton was the wrecking gear rated at ! look's like it could easily lift a house !!!

The wrecking gear was home made and was never completed. There were never any winches added for the booms. The hydraulics had been connected for those massive rams but the chrome was verry badly pitted, one cylinder was actually "bellowed" as if it had been overloaded. The whole of the wrecking gear got weighed in and the truck is now with Dave Weedon.

  9. John, What happened to your Dyson?

Mike, the Dyson was sold to Andrew Jackson in a deal to get a M747 trailer for my Ward La France posted elswhere on this site. It stood there for a couple of years until David Crouch bought the Cooper Antar, when I mentioned to David my trailer was still their the next time I called in at Kibworth low and behold the Dyson was there! It is now coupled to the Crouch/Cooper Antar.

  10. Museum wasn't finished and we were not allowed to take photos when we went.

Are you sure it was an M746, they do have an M911 with M747 trailer which I saw a couple of years ago. The M911 is later and far greater production numbers. Only 193 M746's were ever built. USA 125 and Morocco 68. 75 of the USA ones were "sold" to Turkey mid 90's.

  11. Norman,

Yes it is, I can only asume then that you purchased the WLF which was in the shed next to it in many pieces. That will make a nice truck especially with the Cummins engine. I bought the M578 to go on my M746/747 outfit. (see recent post under WLF)

  12. What has happened to the Churchill that was located just off junction 35 of the M1 north of Sheffield? It has stood on a plinth at the entrance to an industrial estate for 25 years at least. Just before Christmas last year it disapeared and know one knows where its gone. Apparently a large crane and a lowloader turned up one Sunday morning and it was lifted onto the trailer. As I work for JCB Field Service I often visit the JCB depot very close by, nobody in the area knows where it has gone, does anybody else ???

  13. Here is a picture of KYC 621 D when I owned it this was the first of the RAF constructors built chassis number10571. I sold it to Paul Rhodes who then did a marvelous nut and bolt rebuild, an absolute credit to him. It broke my heart to sell it so Paul must have been gutted !

The 20 tonner was mine for about 3 years. I bought it from Tony Jackson in Coventry, brought it back on suspend tow behind my crusader 35T tractor and a 10/30Ton dummy axle recovery unit. (I will dig out some pictures one day and post). I eventually sold it to Bernie Jones along with a 680 Power Plus engine out of a Mountaneer Dump Truck which had a twisted chassis which I bought from a man called Barry in Derby. I sold the dumptuck chassis cab to Shawtrack owner Jamie in Mansfield as they were still running a Mountaineer dump truck on pond clearance work.
