1. sorry meant 6 cylinder , would of been big pots with only four cylinders

What do you mean they are still big pots with 6 cylinders, the engine is roughly 17 Ltrs so that's about 2.8 Ltrs per cylinder.... thats a whole v6 Granada engine in one pot :wow::wow:

  2. There is a nose section resembling an LCA in the Arromanches museum, but it's too small to be the original nose of their LCA. The Utah Beach museum also had an LCA back in the 70's, which was replaced by an LCVP later on. Apart from some wrecks and some converted to houseboats, I don't know of any other LCA's in preservation.

The LST at pounds yard was a British built LST, built late in 1944.

There was a big writeup about it in one of the MVT mags sometime ago, gave the history of it, built after the war and did not see service.

But it has now been cut up and gone. :embarrassed:

Apart from the LCVP's mentioned by Nigel, there is a very nicely restored example in France, that could be seen in ation during the D-day remembrance 2009. There is a webste on this boat, which I can't seem to find at the moment:embarrassed:

When it comes to British built LCT's, it's just as sad as with LCA's. Apart from an LCT2 in Haifa Israel (Navy museum), there are no LCT's preserved as far as I know. Albania had an LCT3 (ex Italian navy) converted into a giant generator and I don't know if it still exists. ....Sad story is still LCT7074 if you ask me.

The last I heard is that it sank and only the funnel can now be seen stcking from the water in the Liverpool docks. A true Normandy veteran and British built LCT left to rot. There is one commercial vessel still in service in Holland, which was converted from an LCT3....sadly it is hardly recognizable.

The LCM in the blockhouse museum in Quistreham was one of the ships used on Saving private ryan. According to After the Battle magazine, both were in fact British built LCM's converted to look like US ones for the movie. Isn't the other one in display on a Roundabout in the UK?

    Alex

p.s. Don't think the LCM in the other thread is wartime.

  3. So, after doing A&E, whats the verdict on the new carb and manifold arrangement in terms of power, responsiveness and mpg ?

Errrr, sorry to say I ran out of time fiddling with the jets, I have improved the stutters but every time you change something you need a good run to prove the change, it just took too long so I put the old carb back on for A and E. All I have to say is there was a noticable difference putting the old one back on, lost alot of pull from low down and seems to run out of pull towards top end. But will try again when I get more time.

  4. Finally got sorted out now at home, just worked out the home trip took me 3 hrs, just checked google maps for the route I took and it looks like the distance traveled was about 91 miles, so 91 miles in 3 hrs means 30 mph average mph :wow: pretty good me thinks.

Will upload some pics when I get a chance.

Also a very big thanks to all, especially cook house crew and all the D.R.'s how do they do it, beats me :bow:

Jack go and have a lay down you did well again mate can only get better next time.......

  5. Just thought I would post a few pics of the M2 now it is complete with the M4-A1 Range Quadrant,I had almost given up on finding one of these but it just goes to show that you never know whats around the corner ! my 105 was one from the batch of Greek lend lease guns that were severly molested when decomisioned but I suppose the next stage for them was the scrap yard !

Anyway another gun is complete and I have the remains of a quadrant if any other owners need parts.

    Rob...........................rnixartillery

Hi Rob, I presume the parts which were damaged on your mounts have the same sort of damage as mine ?

  6. Just watched the youtube vid posted by boomboom, all I can say is I have not stopped grinning yet..:D:D:D

Not many shows you get to see an FH70 we had two there, and both these and my 105 fired what a sight, three Artillary pieces firing as a battery, nice.

  7. Can I ask some questions about halftrack split axles.

I presume these are similar to GMC split axles but on a bigger scale ?

What is the measurement between the centres of the two axle spring mounts on the front axle ?

What is the width of the leaves of front axle springs ?

What is the width of axle between outer faces of hubs ( where the wheels bolt to ) one side to the other, in the straight ahead position ?

What is the inner front drum brake diameter and also the shoe width ?

Last of all how heavy is the engine and box ?

    Thanks

  8. I don't want to get in to a slanging match over this.

All I can say is if you are not happy in what you saw on the Mon, which was the last day of the show and as others have said entrants do start packing up and leaving on Mon.

Please try to get down and see our show on a Sat or Sun.

This is all I will say.

  9. Even the Living History field looked a bit empty, not sure how much was there earlier during the weekend but at 11am on Monday there was even one trench completely empty with just a kid and an adult sitting at the end with there kit all packed up.. if any group didn't stay for the duration at the BB they wouldn't be welcome again.. No excuse for cars in a Living History Field.. straight after the 11:15am battle we saw German armour being put on a truck & ready to leave.

Yes at every show people start leaving in the afternoon but not first thing in the morning, didn't pay to watch people pack there kit up & see what car they own.. to me the lay out resembled a boot sale..

Well all I can say is try to get there on a Sat or Sun to see the difference.

It was someone in a Hi-vis that informed us that the FH70 wouldn't be firing..

It did later in the afternoon.

As a show organiser myself I know how hard it is to put on a show but as they claim they have been doing this for 35years they should have it right by now..

No, this "Overlord show" on the May bank holiday has been going for something like 25 years or so, don't know for sure as I've not been in the group from the start.

As we have a rotation of Committee members every now and then there are always new suggestions and new ways people want to do things, so the original people who started the Overlord show are not the people who are organising it now, be it right or wrong we all live and learn the show evolves moves with the times and desires of traders and entrants.

It has stood the test of time and seen other show come and go and it is still here and very popular, we must be doing something right......

  10. then organisers might want to look at half price admission from midday on last show, but as we all know there are two chances of that happening!!

Well if you had turned up as a member of the public on Mon afternoon you would know the answer to that....... there was a reduction in the entrance price for all.

  11. they should do what war and p does and block exit till 4 pm especially as the following day was bank holiday as well

This won't happen, we allow entrants to arrive and depart when they want its laid back and friendly, and as a smaller show do not want to be compared to W and P there are many many differences between these two events.

  12. As the show has now finished for another year I would like to send our great thanks on behalf of the Overlord Team to all those who have attended this years show, whether it was for nearly a week or just one day it's your attendance which makes our show what it is every year.

As many of you already know it is well known as a laid back and very friendly show with few restriction as possible, entrants who display vehicles and want to be next to their friends who have completely different vehicles, their cars or caravans near them is no problem at this show, the same goes for the re-enactors if they want their vehicles near by then that's fine too, although it does not always lend itself to a good photo opportunity the show layout is generally there for the enjoyment of the Attendees and public who mix and make new friends and show their vehicles in the arena and not primarily as a photo shoot.

This show is always on over the Last May Bank holiday weekend of the year, however as the Bank holiday moved this year we moved with it to hopefully use the extra bank holiday Tues as the pack up and go home day and try to encourage the entrants to stay all of the Mon and travel home on the Tues, some did pack up earlier others didn't.

We do not restrict when the entrants or traders can turn up ( although there is a space issue with that ) or leave it is up to them, we always would like them to stay longer but you cant force people to do that when they have paid a fortune for fuel to get there ect, and as has been said in previous posts they generally have other commitments as well, we are all just very thankful that they have gone through the trouble to enter and turn up with their vehicle(s).

For interested parties who want to make the most of this show, for the last few years it has been open to the public for FOUR days.

Fri, vehicles are still turning up and setting up, there are a few vehicle displays in the arena through the day.

Sat and Sun are the main show days with the main events going on, vehicles in and out of the arena throughout the days and battles going on twice a day.

Mon is the get ready for home day with some people starting to pack up and move out, as the show starts to wind down in to the afternoon the public entrance price is then reduced to reflect the drop in vehicles and traders.

Once again a very big thanks to all who took the trouble to attend.

  13. Sadly I can't, pity as I've heard there will be a 'modified' CCKW worth inspecting - apparently the guy made up a neat manifold out of a piece of what he thought was scaffold tube, but then realised he'd just cut up one of his machine gun mount tubes :-D

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

  14. I thought you had one of those Hiab thingies?

Yes........but..................... those generators arnt the thing you can just pop in the car and take somewhere..... Although very usefull..

You poping down to the show over the weekend for a look round ?
