Good progress will you be ready for Normandy in 2019 no problem
the photo shows the battery box instillation in the rear of my truck you can only see the front two battery boxes from the rear of the truck you do not really need the inner two ,
we really need to organise a Bedford gathering in Normandy in 2019 could we get enough trucks to have something on the scale of some of American vehicle gatherings

Hi Nicky, Rog and I will be coming with the MWR. Ian Young , Windscreen Editor, is coming with us.
Hi Simon what is the canvas roll on the side of your truck i am looking to make some kind of penthouse arrangement for my truck to sleep in on the xxx corps arnhem trip in 2019

Hi Richard it may be that you have a carb for the MWR which had no vacuum advance and retard fitted as it used a screened distributor with two sets of points is there by any chance a big radius in the push rod tube cover plate this would be to accommodate the larger distributor body of the screened distributor is the engine number prefixed MWR ? the Bedford parts book seams to suggest that there were engines built specifically for the MWRs

Hi just checking have the vehicle passes and entry details been sent out for the 2017 show yet

First trip out with the truck last weekend to the Yorkshire MVT crank up in York it was nice to get back behind the wheel of the tuck after its winter lay up.
The event followed its usual format with a mixed convoy of military vehicles from Tadcaster into the centre of York to Clifford s tower and a static display
Picked up an interesting item for the radio display an 80 watt generating set and got some excellent news regarding the trucks history ,i have never had any idea of the identity of my truck both the war time Z number and any post war military registration number having been lost .The Z number displayed on my truck was a best guess using the approximate date of manufacture following up on a list of MWR chassis numbers posted on the Bedford MW face-book group i just happened to check if the chassis number for my truck was on the list which it was and now following confirmation of the search on the post war military number by RLC Deepcut i have the complete identity
war time Z number Z4903759
post war number 34RD84

Hi Richard
Yes i have been following your MWC blog with interest do you plan to put the truck back to the canvas cab ,thanks for the offer of the details from W for the W but my growing interest in all things Military wireless lead to there purchase last year .
The 19 set in my truck really goes with the B squadron Irish Armoured Guards markings on my truck being the correct set as used by an armoured unit the radio B set was used for short range inter vehicle communication ,the 19 set ,power unit and most of the radio installation are currently being restored more detail to follow later .

I thought it was about time i up dated my restoration blog ,i thought i would start with some of last years show photos ,the end of last season saw the mileage on the truck at 5000 miles most of which have been trouble free .
photo 1 is east Kirby airfield lanc & tank event in late June 2017
Followed quickly by the longest trip of the year to Tilly-sur-seulles , Normandy for the liberation celebrations and to take part in the xxx corps tour of British & Canadian battlefields .The tour convoy consisted of twenty five all British marked vehicles including 3x 15 cwt trucks ,K2 ambulance,Bedford OY 3ton ,3x bren carriers ,3 x Daimler dingos and made a very impressive site on the road
The deputy Mayor of Tully-sur-seullies runs the local museum and was to be found most days in the rear seat of a carrier guiding the convoy around local historic sites .
Most of the camp was period tents this photo showing my newly restored 160lb tent
Some of the locations we visited looked very much as they would have looked in 1944 especially the calvados brewey at Jerusalem cross roads
And when turned black & white look even more period
The weather was very hot not very good for wearing a wool battle dress and the water bottle became an important piece of kit
Yorkshire war time weekend in July saw my first attempt at a radio display
Woodhall spa 1940s weekend in late July saw the truck winning best military vehicle prize
The radio display at the Victory show in early September had so much gear we needed to add a trailer to carry it all which the truck pulled that well i all most forgot it was there
The last show of the year was Crowle & Eland 1940s weekend in late September

Looking for any information regarding the MoS wartime and post war vehicle rebuild program ,i know that all our vehicles which have been through the MoS rebuild program have a plate fitted giving information regarding the rebuild and some times a new identification/census number ,the war time system seams to have issued rebuilt Bedford MWs with new Z numbers in a range starting Z16------ and my own Bedford MWR was rebuilt post war as 34RD84 i have also found several Bedford MWs which were rebuilt several times post war on each occasion a new number being issued , my 80" landrover also had a MoS rebuild but retained its original census number ,at what mileage/age were these rebuilds carried out ,are the vehicles striped completely with each component being reworked to as new specification ,if this is the case either they used a very good parts storage system or all of our vehicles are just a collection of the finished parts that reached the end of the rebuild process at same time as the chassis ,after the rebuild what was the expected mileage/reliability for the new vehicle ,was the same system used war time continued post war ,would the large scale rebuild program have finished with the end of the MoS in 1959

Hi this is an interesting question i do not think i have seen a restored MWC with its original pto driven pump and fittings there seam to be a great number of different pto drives which will fit the Bedford gear box most of which are not war time fittings the correct pto drive for the MWR is shown in the first photo .
The control linkage comes into the cab as the small button on the floor which is pulled up to engage the pto
looking in the Bedford mw parts book lists a pto assembly only for the MWR is it possible that the company which built the water tank and assembled the truck also supplied the pto hence it not being listed in the Bedford parts book ?

The 28 HP Bedford engine when fitted in the 15 cwt Bedford MWR uses a different type of distributor with two sets of points and no vacuum advance /retard .would this be because it was a screened distributor although it would still be expected to perform on the road the same as any other Bedford 15 cwt .

Hi Andy
Thanks for the info but its too late now as i have removed all soldered plugs from the redundant B set holes ,things are starting to come together ,having managed to find the B set tuning wheel , volume control and aerial plug but i am still looking for the other parts ,the face of the set is going to be repainted and remarked and i will change the date on the face to before the date the B set was declared obsolete.
thanks for the info though .
Nicky

Can you help i am looking to replace the missing B set parts which were removed from the set in the photo they would have been removed when the set was rebuilt in the 1950s .
the parts i need are
the aerial plug for the B set (are the A and the B set aerial plugs the same ).
B set tuning dial
adjustment screw to stop the B set whistling.
volume control for B set
on/off switch for B set
i am also looking for the missing knob for the slow motion control on the a set
the parts do not need to be in working condition just the correct ones as the set is used for a signals office display with my Bedford MWR at shows

Simon
I have a Canadian EMER for wireless set cdn no .19 mk3 and ancillary equipment this is more a parts book for the Canadian 19 set and it gives a description of connector co-axial no 10 being lead from the set to variometer which beaks down to parts list giving a cable length of 42 " i would think the one for the British set would be the same length

Hi Simon
i have managed to refit both sets of screws to the 19 set in my MWR it is very difficult and you will need a lot of patience ,if you remove the complete slow motion drive (the adjuster under the dial )and take out the screw holding the knob in the centre of the dial you can lift off the dial and see the four holes in the two plates i dont think the threaded holes will be stripped you will just be using the wrong holes ,i found that when refitted all the screws do not sit at the same height

There is also a plate under the hood on the left side of the bulkhead. On this plate I found the chassis number and engine number. This plate will tell you if you have the original engine with the truck. As you know the engine number is on the right side of the engine.
Hope the missing contract numbers will turn up in the near future.
Nicky, do you know how many digits the Catalogue ref. number exists.
Thanks
Danny
Sorry Danny not quite sure as to what you mean by how many digits in the catalogue ref ? the full contract number is 294/23/S8216

The copy's of the missing contract number cards are out there some ware, the ones we have found came from the tank museum but they only had copy's of 34 cards i have list of 69 Bedford mw contract numbers all taken from the lists of contract numbers shown in the various Bedford parts books ,your date of 1945 is probably correct as it is not shown in list in the December 1944 parts book but is on the list in the 1946 book ,any leads to the location of missing Bedford contract cards would be a big help ,we are also looking for the Bedford wartime factory production lists showing chassis numbers built as at present there is noway to link a chassis /engine number to specific contract other than if the truck has retained its original contract plate.
