  1. THanks Guys, yes it stood for a while and must have got moisture in, i'll change it at the weekend.

    cheers

we had the same problem with our ferret when we bought it, the engine oil in the gearbox looked like salad cream, where moisture emulsifies with the oil and the EP90 in the final drive was a rusty foamy liquid. we changed both and 3 years later both still look clean. I know the ferret had spent many years idle. It pays to check everything on a newpurchase

  2. Hi All

Does anyone know how many types of the CAV ignition/lighting switch boxes they produced ?

i have 3, all look the same from the front, but on the back each of the connections are lettered, but they vary ? why ?

if you look at several 'standard' ww2 british types, ie Morris, Bedford, Humber, Fordson, they must all have had the same equipment, but nearly all wiring diagrams show different connections being used.

anybody an authority on these ?

Also does anybody sell these still ?

    cheers

  3. Ah, yes, looking at the diagram in more detail i can now see that the Nearside light was permenantly on when switched, where as the off side could be 'dipped' off completly................ with the lamps being single filliment.

SO as this is original would this pass an MoT ?

Having said that i suppose i really need to wire it with double filliment lamps, but i would like to use the original 'Dipper' switch as the 'new' high / low beam switch, can anyone come up with a simple diagram on here of how this could be achieved ?

    Thanks all

    Jules

  4. Hello Guys

Continuing with the wiring of my Humber and following the Original Wiring diagram, it shows a Lucas 'Horn Dipper Switch' which i have, but it also shows only 2 wires leading to the headlight, one the feed, the other an earth.................

how could it be dipped ? what am i missing here ? i presume this is the same on most WW2 British vehicles ?

    Cheers

  5. Hello Guys

I'm just re wiring my Humber 4x4 personnel, according to the wiring diagram it only shows two wires coming from the Generator to the regulator box, but i had three originally, and there are 3 terminals on the Generator ? any answers ?

I think this set up is standard on most British WW2 vehicles ?

Their will be more questions i fear !

  7. Please can anyone tell me where i can get a new oil filter for my humber ? the one on it was a Fram and a horrible Orange colour.

with a nice rebuilt engine awaiting to start, i've realised i need to get a new filter!

    it is a sealled type.

would be able to get one from a motorfactors ?

    Cheers Jules

  8. Thanks Guys for all your comments, yes, i'm very pleased with it.........................................i just need to learn to ride it now and pass my test !

strange how i have driven most forms of transport, even a Comet ! but i can't officially ride this one on the road !

  9. Having now made up my mind that i'm going to paint my 6 cylinder side valve Humber Engine BLACK as they were originally.

The engine has been rebuilt and stripped back to bear metal, should i prime it first with red oxide the black or just use the black synthetic paint, or just use satin black Hammerite straight on the metal ?

what i don't want is it peeling off when it gets hot.
