  1. Wow...welcome along Dan...now thats what I call jumping in with both feet.

That whole family is my favourite wheeled armour, I am still holding out for a Saracen..just need to leave a spare pair of wheels up against the middle of the 101, and at a convenient time buy a saracen and park it in its place...its green, she will never notice :)

  2. You are right on the funds... it is costing me about $120 an hour for labor. My wife is going to kill me when she gets the bill. I'm pretty sure she thinks this will cost a thousand or two...lol.

I think the tirck is to look suitably surprised at the final bill, and swear never to use them for that work ever again :)

  3. Ok, less doom and gloom, but a few quickies :)

    1. Veni, Vidi, Velcro - I came, I saw, I stuck around

    2. "Incontinence hotline - can you hold please?"

    3. I bought myself a new After Shave today that smells of breadcrumbs. The birds love it!!

  4. Just what are the chances of several Jeeps turning up in that situation, and more importantly a group of Jeep owners who are prepared to commit themselves and their Jeeps to the task

AND the knowledge of how to safely and successfully combine the power!!! I could have had 10 jeeps and still screwed it up :)

  5. Got home a few hours ago and am now feeling totally shattered... I think my bruises have bruises and joints are going on strike!

    Neil,

after seeing you in the Arena on Friday (or was it Thursday?), I am not surprised...you definately had the pedal to the metal :)

Pulling doughnuts in the OT was a real crowd pleaser :)

  6. No problems with the weather today - shame the same can't be said for the M25 on the way home! :-(

Yes...took a punt when I saw the signs at Leatherhead about junct8 to 12, ducked around the back of Oxshott onto the A3...glad I did!!!

  7. Always did the ferret at the PO, as never worked online.

I tried one Po a couple of times and the guy just kept saying it needed an MOT even though I had filled out the V112G, kept saying "you cannot use any vehicle on the road without an MOT"...he seemed to ignore the "MOT exemption form issued by DVLA!!!

No problem at other POs though...kind anice going in and getting something for nothing :)

  8. But it takes some skill to make a stunning end result. They may be good kits but my ham fisted efforts would render them into something more suited to a Hiroshima diarama.:-D

Agree with that, I really do not know how you modeller guys do that...they look the dogs cahoonas. Nice job.

  9. rather than dsconnect the prop shafts, I would just undo the wheels and rotate? The prop shaft bolts, from what I remember, need to be rotated 180 degrees as the bolts are not evenly spaced, so you may not get the wheels aligned....but if its just tape why bother? Just move the tape or repaint, and go for a quick drive, you should see if everything is OK.

If you want to jack up the side to quicly rotate the wheels, lazily I would just do it on the jack, under the side of the centre of the hull.

    Looks very nice.

  10. if its a newish phone that can be charged direct froma USB port, it may be that the charge voltage is 5+ volts anyway. Maybe just snip the USB connector off the lead, or have a USB port in the truck and drop the voltage a bit with a resistor....or is that looking at it too simply?

  11. Hi rick,

yes, they were new last year. I always charged them in situ when needed.

If you want to take the leads off, the one under the air filter, -ve terminal is the true earth and should be removed first...you won't get any sparking if you disconnect that one first (tracee the cable back to the vehicle interstart, and you should see its connected to a bunch of other cables to earth). The positive from that battery goes to the -ve of the battery over by the control boxes.

  12. Hi Jim,

yes I did. spent a lot of time on the bearings and trying to unseize the existing turret brake handle (for want of a better word), but gave up on the gun mount and got a NOS GPMG mount from bannisters...and as that is what is was fitted with rather than a browning it was probably closer to in-service anyhow.

Unfortunately I have not sold it on, after many months of pressure to get something more practical :(

I am thinking some time in the future to get either a saracen or Pig... :)

For now, I have a 101 which is proving to be some fun, and at least its dry when I drive to work :)

    Mick
