Hi there,
Currently undertaking restoration of Land Rover Series 2a, army registation number 43 EP 30 - manufactured in 1966 under contract number WV3691, history I have is as follows: came into service with British Army in February 1966 and was held in storage until February 1967 when it went to serve with 1st Welsh Borderers. In November 1969 it went to Central Vehicle Depot at Hilton. In May 1971 it went to the Training Park, Catterick. In November 1971 it returned to Central Vehicle Depot, Hilton. In June 1972 it went to the Proof and Experimental Establishment, Pendine where it remained until February 1974 when it was struck off the military census at Ruddington.
So for restoring vehicle to a specific unit there are a few options, not sure which way I'll go with that as yet but the most interesting would seem to be the Proof and Experimental Establishment, Pendine - I have run a few searches relating to this establishment but there seems to be very limited information, but I am interested to know what sort of usage/tasks etc the vehicle may have been used for as it would then help with knowing what 'standard' and 'task specific' kit and items which would have been additionally carried on the vehicle.
Cheers,
Neil W.
