  1. Hello Pete

I've heard various schemes, some the Mickey mouse, others RAF Blue all over or RAF blue with black wings. Haven't a clue at the moment but will be checking the museum archives shortly so you never know!

  2. Hi Colin,

Is this a civilian Fordson N or the military version? I am a fan of the N's but must admit my knowledge is limited.

The dark green with orange lettering is correct for a WW2 civilian model, the earlier N's were orange until(I think) 1939/40. Does the one you are restoring have the wide or narrow fenders?

    Cheers,

    Matt.

This was a civilian one seconded to the RAF so the story goe's. Fender wise I'm not sure, off the top of my head I think its a wide fender which is fitted. Its a 1939 model (Again going by the info from the Aircraft & exhibits dept), but any other info and thats about it.

  3. Its for the RAF Museum Hendon, its a shame it won't be up and running for the June show but then I don't think they are betting on it being done this year!

The colour scheme it has at the moment dosen't look quite right, its a glossy green with orange highlighted letters, I'll try and get a photo to show it in all its glory.

  4. Thanks for the offer Steve but I can only make Saturday unfortunately at work on the Sunday.

The planning for the show is coming along slowly, we have plenty of the living history chaps coming, but certain museum staff being a pain in the a**e, not passing the paperwork etc (Management of course!!!!). I think some of them think its too much hassle for them to have weekends like this! But we're determined to get this off the ground.

Hopefully if we get the early mark Spitfire down we'll have a nice display outside the GWF (BofB) and the Spit Mk16 on the grass out front (Normandy), we might even have the jeep running by then.

  5. Need info on Fordson type N tractors in use by the RAF during World War two, anyone out there who can help.

Paint schemes would be great as I'm trying to get info together for the museums restoration of a 1939 example that the society of friends have got there hands on.

  6. All you HMVF peeps, I need help on finding this photo of a Chevrolet C8 in Normandy. This would be an absolute life saver as I'm desperate to get this vehicle sorted and out to the shows in a proper scheme and with photogaphic evidence to back it up and anyone out there who has a Morris or wireless backed vehicle who could pass on info about fittings etc would be an absolute star!

  7. Thank you very much Gents , I really appreciate the help.

Finding out info on these vehicles has been a nightmare, nothing about the rear except pics from the various CMP sites, no measurements, construction etc.

If you could find the pic or possible remember any books the pic from Normandy might be I would be over joyed!!!

    Thanks again

    C

  8. A lot of the kit is still in place, its mainly the area at the top of the stairs in the main hanger which has changed, the WW1 medal area further down the gallery is pretty much as was just a little bit of rearranging has been done.

I can confirm the red barons flying helmet and dog mascot (Not a cat as it says in the caption) is still there with the badges/medals etc (Just checked so if its gone in the morning I'm in trouble!).

  9. That bit about "Whats left of them" sounds rather disturbing?????

Some of the upper gals have now been turned over to the Education dept for use and some of the kit was moved from there into storage, fortunately the majority of the big bits (Motorcycles/Tender) have been put into the GWF.

We're trying to get more info displays out on the ground but it is difficult when your only a lowly security guard trying to get your ideas across.

In regard to the empty spaces we are actually awaitting some kit (A long time coming!), so your never know!

  10. Cheers Richard, If I remember rightly I have removed that, I dare say its just more effort required!

I'll have a look at her tomorrow and see what the score is.

In regards to CMPs, My mate & I started looking for any vehicle and this one just so happened to pop up, so we went for it and got it. I had tried for others but always too slow!

We would like to go for a HUP next if possible but definitely something with a bit more load capacity or else something that would look good in front of a Bofors (Just want a good excuse to get one!).
