  1. Hi Artists..., as far as balancing goes, cheers for the advice, but I also need to get the mixture right, as it is a bit rich (I found a friendly, sympathetic MOT tester), but I do not want to lean it off myself as I do not really know how to tell if I have gone too far, until it pinks and burns a hole in a piston :-o.

Choke cable and route are not the problem, as once I have got the mechanism to move over the initial "fulcrum" it operates freely. Its just the first quater or so of the movement that is a problem, I have managed to pull the end off of two cables so far and at £12 - £15 a go I do not want to break any more, hence I am after someone with greater knowledge than I to point me in the right direction.

  2. I am in East Grinstead, 15 mins from Jct 6 M25, 20 mins from Gatwick airport. I will come to you if you are close and it is easier!!!! This thing is starting to get irritating, I can see why people upgrade to EFI!! :-o

  3. The Pinkie is called "little Mule", I got the name from Romancing the Stone (Pinkie is in 1st Gulf war guisze and I wanted a period name from a period film).....but it has come to stick as the thing is quite often as stubborn as one, poxy thing, and was also the SAS's pack horse in the gulf!!

  4. Well here is the problem, I know nothing about this old technology stuff and my Pinkie had to be bodged through the MOT as it was running as rich as. Everytime I attach a choke cable I end up pulling the end off as it seems to be stuck, though I can operate the choke mechanism by hand easy enough.

So what I need is some one with the knowledge and tools to balance and set up my twin SU carbs, and help sort my choke cable, as I am finding this all a bit frustrating. What can I offer in return......... a bacon butty and as much tea as you can swallow, plus at least 5 mins of gratitued!!! Bargain surley :-D

    So pretty please......

  5. I had a hell of a job trying to get the wheels of the pinkie balanced. They wouldn't fit in the balancing machine of most places. I eventually went to a place that does lorries, and knows what they are doing. Look in the yellow pages and choose some one from the commercial tyres section.!

I might be able to bolster you boys in Dorset AND bring him along to offer advice. It all depends on when.... I work shift work and he tends to be a busy boy!

  8. There ARE only three of these left in existance, the guy who owns the one you pictured (with the guy driving it ) is owned by a very good freind of mine. He also knows of the where abouts of the other two. if you are talking about the one I think you are, it was not built like that by land rover, but is a very good replica. I can pass your details on to my mate and he can tell you all about it as he knows a hell of a lot about these.

He has a map in his workshop showing the where abouts of all the scrapped series 11a pinkies in the world and has a whole host of rare pics, including a pinkie painted white as a marker for the end of a make shift runway in oman...

  9. Cheers...... wasn't an easy job to get the thing back in one piece. here are a couple of pics that will show what state it was in when I got it!
