  1. Looking for a replica K gun for my airborne jeep.

I have seen Military Muckabouts do them but also seen bad reviews of their GPMG's. Any one have one of their K guns?

Ww2 fabrications do one, but no idea what they are like, anyone else any experience?

Relics do a wooden one but I don't really want a wooden one.

Any others? I know you can get the plans but I dont have the skill to put one together.

Or has anyone got one for sale? All feedback and thoughts envied.

  2. I have bought 90 wolfs in the past for around £7000. they have been untidy, but in good condition with no rot and an mot. They are alot harder to find in that price bracket as the dealers snap them up, but they are about.

110s havent been released in large numbers yet so fetch a premium.

My money though would be on a v8 and retro fit power steering and defender seats.

much cheaper to buy than a wolf, and the parts are cheaper as you havent got bespoke 24v system or unique axles and suspension.

v8s are rarer than wolfs, and sound gorgous if you swap the centre box with a straight through pipe.

I have had 90 and 110 wolfs, a wimk and plenty of 110 v8s. if i was buying a military land rover tomorrow, thats where my money would go.

It is of course a personal choice.

  3. Well if I did my jeep as american there are loads of lovely things like K ration box's to help dress it, but I want to do it as one in British use.

This then poses my question, what rations did the british use? would they have been sharing the yanks k rations or only thier own, and is any repros available?

Any other thoughts for nice british things to dress a british jeep with?

  4. Well after a viewing of 3 Jeeps over the weekend I have settled on one which is a 1943 willys mb. The owner is french and bought it to the uk with him. The only later hotchkiss parts fitted are a kph speedo which he said had to be fitted to register it in france, yellow headlights for the same reason and a solex carb.

It is still 6v, with no ignition key and a floor mounted starter.

    So my questions are:

What size sockets and spanners will I need? Up until now I have only played with modern stuff so only really have metric.

What do you do about modern fuels? Do you use any additives to replace the missing bits in unleaded?

I will need some rear shocks and springs, they have gone soft from sitting. where is the best place to get these?

It is missing its data plate off the glove box (but it does have its willys data tag on the chassis). Can I get a replica replacement for this?

The glove box is held shut with a cable tie. where can I get a replacement glove box catch?

the catches on the bonnet to hold the winscreen when its folded are also mia. Again any good sources for replacement?

The last thing for now is maintenance. Where can I get service and repair book and a parts book from? Anyone uploaded one online yet?

I am sure there will be more questions when I get it home, but that wont be for a few weeks as the previous owner is going to register it in the uk for me, as its still on its hand painted french numberplates.

    Cheers

    Karl

  5. Hi Karl

    Regards

    Michael

Not really looking for a resto, but what have you got, and how much?

  6. Hi Karl, aren't you a bit young to be buying a jeep ( age 7 ) or do you have a nice mummy and daddy buying it for you

    Commander

All im hearing is jealousy of my youth and boyish good looks!!!!

I don't put my real date of birth on places like public forums as it is used by so many companies as a security question.

  7. Not yet sure of the area but 01584 area code. owner now gone visiting for xmas and isnt back until sunday night. Time wise depends on who is available, but suspect around lunch / early afternoon to suit most and give me time to get there.

  9. Hello and happy xmas to you all.

I am off to view a jeep in devon (I am near Ipswich) either monday or Friday, and as a near jeep novice wondered if anyone in devon (or in suffolk/ essex if you wanna come along for a day out) is available to view it with me and give an unbiased appraisal? ??

    Cheers

  10. Well, having played with land rovers for most of adult life, I fancy embracing an aspiration I have had to own a HMMWV for some time....

I need to know first off, will it fit? could an existing owner (or some one with better surfing skills then me) tell me how wide one is, as I need to figure out if one will fit on the drive.

What are they like to live with, how easy are parts, how expensive. What wears out? How easy are tyres that fit to find? what should I be thinking about?

I really want a slant back with top mounted 50 cal, but see there is a 5 door soft top with soft doors for sale, how easy would it be to convert, how easy are the parts to find to complete the transformation and is it worth it, or should I just search for what I want in the first place?

What are they like to drive on the british roads? I have driven a left hand drive land rover without any problems, but nothing larger....

would it be easier to find one in the states and import, am I going to run into any major headaches going this route.

What are all the versions, I see mention of 1025, 998 ect ect. Whats the differences?

Any thing else that I missed that I should be thinking off?

I know its going to be a thirsty deisel beast, but just how thirsty are they?

Any help appreciated, before I go down the path of selling my wolf 110 hard top and wolf WMIK to pay for it......

  11. Nope, its a CO pleasure palace...... Loosely based on a unit modded version of the command vehicle. Its go a fold down bed in the back, that doubles up as a desk and map table.

The winch was added as I also have an ex Engineers boat, and this allows me to drag it in and out of the water without putting the wolf in the wet stuff. This wolf is ex Royal engineers, and I have seen winches added to other Engineers landies so its not completely out of place.

This is my everyday vehicle, and not just a show queen, so it has all sorts of little mods that enable it to be a useful toy for what I want, thats not come straight from the army. The idea is that at first glance I wanted it to look right at shows whilst still being able to be used for my personal needs, which I think it does.

The civvie tow ball on the front is being replaced with a mili one off of the back of a Sankey, when I get round to it.

  12. I have no photos Im afraid, I put it together long before I had a digital camera.

The source of genuine kits is likely to have dried up a very long time ago. I bought my kit in 2003, and I very nearly missed the boat back then. I bought a genuine Path finder kit in 2004, with the intention of building a replica path finder. I then aquired a genuine Pathfinder which was missing its kit so the kit went onto that. Thats the Pathfinder that my brother currently owns and is looking to sell.

The para's used 90 gunships, but only 8 were built, and they were all FFR. They were built on a previously converted stackable 90 (with cut out sides).

The SAS converted ex RAF 90's due to a lack of DPV's available, but the only one to survive is the one in your picture.

If you are going to go down this road, you are going to have to get everything fabricated. you will pay around £500 ish each just for the correct mounts, although cheaper ones are available, they will look terrible. Unless you are going to fabricate your own kit, you will have to pay someone, and there is alot more to it then first appears.....

Put the soft top back on your 90 (you would need to take the roll bar off of your series 3 and use on the 90 for a recce anyway), paint it green and pay to have the filler in the door posts replaced with real metal. It will then sell.... Thats what I would be doing if it was me.

If you do continue down the 90 route and have specific questions, feel free to PM me, I will help where I can.

    Good luck.

They do look good, but they are an expensive thing to put together.
