  1. First of all there is an embarrsing mistake you can make (I know I did it, and it cost me a lot of sweat and blue air) Undo the bleed screw on the top of the fuel tank filler. The other thing if it has sat, muck in the carb. Take out all the jets and clean them.

Its not the bleed screw & its not a carburettor as you know it, I don't miss stupid things like that !! its my job.

  2. The MVT Verification person will advise what is required, the vehicle has to be complete, not dismantled, does not need to run, no MOT needed, ..But first you will have to submit a NOVA application to HMRC, ridiculous for a vehicle that has probably always been in the UK, its treated same as an import but its a DVLA requirement, otherwise they won't process the application

You beat me to it Nick, I was typing while you were posting but we are both of the same opinion.

  3. When applying for an age related number for a 1940 British ex military vehicle with no previous log book tax disc etc I know I need dating cert from MVT or similar and new vehicle registration form from DVLA but does it have to be mot,ed as I just want to get a V5 for it prior to restoring and will not be putting back on the road for some time in the future after all the work done. .Any thoughts or comments please? :-)

Hi Andy I've done 3 bikes & 2 vehicles in the past 12 months so getting very used to this, no MOT required & infact its not possible to MOT them now as they are not on the system anymore.

Dating cert from MVT or owners club, get it insured on the chassis number & send off to DVLA with appropriate forms & cheque, you might get a V5 back but in my case an independent inspector was sent round on 4 of the 5 inspections.

The vehicle needs to be complete, original & all together if an independent inspector comes round otherwise he wont pass it, that's my experience.

    Regards Ian

  4. Hi guys I bought this charging set a few years ago but only just got round to starting it up.

The problem is that it wont carry on running past a few seconds before it peters out (fuel not ignition) and for the life of me I cannot see how the engine draws the fuel up from the tank as there is no fuel pump & not pressurisation system like a Tilly lamp.

I'm missing something here ? but what ?

  5. On the lookout for one of these, it's a mega light weight Freedom Discovery caravan (looking for the LE model) max gross weight 750kg

I'm not going to rough it in a tent anymore at shows. :-D

I might even get it 'wrapped' to look like a WW2 airfield control van (from a distance) with wind sock etc

  6. Ian, why split it all up, or are these extra bits over and above the truck under restoration?

Hi Sean I put the feelers out a year ago and tried to sell it as a complete package but it did work out & even then I was going to loose £1,500 on what its cost me.

This way other QL's can be put back on the road & I may even make a bit, the engine will up for

sale hopefully this summer once I've painted & test run it up in the test rig.

Unless I receive a good offer for the unfinished cab the intention is to finish it off slowly to a very high standard & sell as a ready to fit & go cab with doors, windows, bonnet & all the interior engine panels. I think there are a lot of people out there that may be interested ;)

    Regards Ian

  7. As you know Ian British, and for that matter Canadian trucks, can be difficult to gauge a realistic asking price for them, they are not everyone's cup of tea. Having said that if your C8 was A1 mechanically and with good paint work, good tires, canvass etc somewhere around the £8.5k to £10k mark I would suggest as the ball park price. With a dodgy crank and white metal cast bearings there is obviously a cost to take into account.

It's a number of years since I had any white metal casting and line boring done (the last was a Chev engine about 10 years ago) The real issue is what damage has been done to the crank, is it just a regrind one size down or will it need metal spraying and rebuilding.

I think that's where the unknown cost lies in your case. If it was me buying I'd want to see at least £1K off market price to cover potential work and possibly a tad more by the time transport to and from a specialist machine shop is taken into account.

But as we all know (and most of us have been there at one time or another) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... so my advise for what it's worth.......... would be set a fair price and be prepared to deal :cool2:

    Pete

Hi Pete good to hear from you, looks like were in the same ball park over its value before the engine problem, I do have an attentive offer of £6,500 with all the spares but if there's anybody that's on the forum that's interested 1st please PM me.

    Regards Ian

  8. hi everyone

after many years of attending all sorts of events i have now noted the " ideals of exhibitors "

    1

buy a ex military vehicle , drive to the show , park it up and do not move until end of show ( this includes day trippers )

put your chairs in front of your vehicle so no one can take a good photo

    2

buy a ex military vehicle , drive to the show , park it up , drive around the arena

    3

buy a ex military vehicle , drive to the show arrive late , and be the first to leave

    4

buy a ex military vehicle , leave it at home , go to the show in a car , tell everyone you have a military vehicle

    5

buy a ex military vehicle , tow it to show on a trailer , unload it , stand by it , reload it go home

    6

buy a motorhome , tow your ex military vehicle to a show , most of the time park it next to motorhome ( this is the same as a military vehicle towing a caravan )

    7

buy a ex military vehicle , drive to show , put on a display ( this includes tents , fly sheets , camo nets/poles, ammo boxs , ect)

these are just a few , if you can think of anymore please add

these are not here to wind up people just to say " if you are a show organiser which would you prefer to attend "

it is not hard to display vehicles , the normal is " got to park next to my mate , as close as i can in parallel " in a 2 acre field

try placing your vehicle at 45 degrees , cover modern tables with hessian same as sand bags , cover your rear load area in you vehicle with canvas ( your cool box )

more and more shows put up ropes to divide sections off as walkways , use them to your advantage

im looking folward to the replys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lets make 2017 not just a military display in the corner of a show , where the public just glance over and walk by

this is just a hobby , MAKE IT FUN

    Definitely #7

    7

buy a ex military vehicle , drive to show , put on a display ( this includes tents , fly sheets , camo nets/poles, ammo boxs , ect)

  9. NOW FOR SALE.

Due to temporary I'll health she's going up for sale in the near future.

    :(

Unfortunately on the way home from W&P last year she developed a minor knocking but because I had loaned it out to 'friends' they kept driving until it developed into a major fault & I think she's knocked out a big end bearing.

    Ideal winter / summer project.:nut:
