  1. Good one Mark. :-D

Get that collecting tin and 'Shake Rattle & Roll'.

You will have a great time, meet some fantastic people and be doing some real good.

Like the PDF guys - Jack are you still up for Dorchester this year?

  2. OK Folks - caravan loaded. Pig fed, watered, oiled, greased and looking a treat. :-D

So we off. Off to catch up with old friends (and maybe old enemies!) :yay: Yipeee

My biggest challenge will be to keep HF & Mr T20 from buying anything 'inappropriate' at the auction.

Then Mrs T20 & I will have to direct our attention to Clive................... I seem to remember from last year some sort of incident with one of the troupes of dancing girls.................. Oh didn't we tell you - as well as numerous vehicles, steam engines, bygones etc there are troops of dancing girls preforming in the evening near the showmans engines.................. ;-)

If you are coming along please stop and say hello

  3. Had a lovely time wenching with Jack and |Co...

Shame about weather, and having to do Sat night security, Oh the joy 00.30 and clearing the beer tent of p-ssed up pikeys :-D :-D

Don't those pigs look fine out to grass Clive? Definately looking superior to Detroit dross

Big thank you to those who made the effort and braved the Sat, we were rewarded on the Sunday :-D

    regards HF

  4. Mrs Hardyferret because I am Married to Hardyferret :dunno:

Hardyferret - on the lines of his porn star name -

Pets name = Hardy vehicle = a ferret

As the said ferret is now going to a new home with another member of the forum his name may soon need to be changed to his second porn star name- Puzzlepig

    other pets name = Puzzle

other vehicle = Pig (well actually now its 2 pigs)

  5. Was wondering how early they let you arrive so i could get more camping days there.

We are able to access the show site from 8 am Saturday 25th Aug and are requested to vacate by Monday 3rd Sept.

From what I'm led to believe, they are getting very 'picky', regarding which military vehicles they want at the show. Also, numbers are limited.

Yes numbers are limited - so the marshals for each section do try to choose the best range of vehicles to give the best display - but to be fair I would not call it 'Picky'

Numbers are limited for each section for one very good reason - the space available is limited and so the show cannot just be thrown open to all comers unfortunately.

I am not involved with the Great Dorset Steam Fair organisation but I can understand a lot of the problems they face from my involvement with the Purbeck Rally and Autojumble - that too, like Great Dorset, started as a gathering of friends with a shared interest in a corner of a little field. But like Topsy it grew and you must get hold of it at some point and keep it under control.

Once you become reliant on the public coming in through the pay gate your loyalties must encompass not one but two groups - the exhibitors and the public both equally important in a successfully show.

The business of picking entries is an important one - I can see the day comming very soon when the committee will need to do the same at Purbeck - unfortunately under these conditions as nice as it is to have as many people attending as exhibitors as possible from the public side its not very interesting if for instance - the stationary engine section looks like a lister D fest - with 15% of the exhibits being the same. (I use this as an hypothetical illustration ) Likewise at Great Dorset if for instance there is space for 50 vehicles and 10 Humber pigs are entered.............. Great for Clive & Jerry but what a lost opportunities for both the exhibitor and the public to see for instance a nice Bedford and trailer!

I hope no one thinks I am on my soap box - I am too sad for that. The situation of needing to make rules and selections makes me very sad indeed and if there was some other way I would love to hear about it.

  6. Its really not as bad as it sounds - the restrictions are for the Public camp sites which are huge, and as stated before have been bothered by travelers and the such like and they have made life hell in the past. No way is it snobbery but a real attempt to make things better for the majority of the public who are peacefull and law abiding and just want to go along enjoy the show.

On the show ground it is different. we take our van - it has been issued with an official pass as support to our Military vehicle entry - no problem at all.

Unfortunately its the usual story - a few spoiling it for the many. My boss hoped to take her caravan and stay in the public camping - she usually tows the caravan with her old landrover. Its a real work horse looks rough and does not have seats, she has made alternative towing arrangements and commented that she is pleased that the organisers are trying to do something to improve security/safety of property etc even if it does cause her a bit of inconvenience.

  7. So

    Lynne is doing your ironing

You are messing about on the computer

and this is some sort of holiday

Sounds like an every day scene in our humble Dorset home :dunno:...

I hope your going out for a 'nice spot of dinner' later and not expecting Lynne to rustle you up a gourmet extravaganza on one a one ring camp stove before trotting of to the river to wash the dishes............... :-D

  8. The Dorset Boys will have Hardyferret on the team :-D - at the last match each time it was his 'go' the guys doing the putting up took cover behind a barricade of tables!!!! :shake: and the back wall of the ally has now had to be reinforced...........................

He..he.....he...I think the weekend is going to be huge fun - Mvs doing there stuff, a load of 'boys and their toys' running around on Salisbury plain - with permission, camped next to a pub, the chance that Jack will see more Orbs and maybe the Drummer Boy :schocked: , HF working his magic in the skittle ally  .......................

the only thing missing so far is Markheliops and his two new friends  with their camera man.
