  1. yep every time now that i read the manual its just i read that the fox could beat cars of the starting line etc and i dont seem to have anywhere nr that ability in the first two gears - i think tjis is looking alot like brake bands tbh
  2. i do have the manuals but all it says is to check the levels on the fluid coupling but i dont have the tool to open it - would it be the coupling tho if third gear etc are ok?
  3. no workshop unfortunately im looking for a storage solution or mechanic tjat can do this tbh - the servicing etc i can do but work like this im not sure about
  4. hi - ill have a look at yhe flywheel altho the manual says i need a special tool to undo the nuts - any idea where i can get one ? i have a feeling it may be the brake bands as the pickup in third is good suggesting the brake bands are the problem is this sifficult to get to?i.e do i habe to get the whole power pack out?
  5. We took the fox out for a fairly big run of 50 miles and although he ran well there were two observations we made - theres virtually no power in first or second gear - third fourth and fifth the fox cracks along with no problems but i have to rev pretty high to get movement in lower gears and the second is the engine runs incredibly hot - 30 minutes after stopping and the heat coming off the engine is incredible - the coolant gauge doesnt work at the moment so im thinkibg the rhermostat doesnt either problem is i dont know the fox from adam so should first and second gears not be that powerful in terms of they only get the vehicle to 20 or so as third really kicks in with a big difference any ideas if there us a problem?
  6. thanks - I told them this so theyve removed the insert and put a normal inner tube in - to end on a happy note they got the job done and fitting thectyre this afternoon do ill be using them again Thanks for all the advice - invaluable as usual
  7. Yep they are run flats - they are going to try and get them off today at the unit although they have never seen them before - we might have to get rid of the rtun flat though and just put in the normal inner tube instead - not sure if I read somewhere that the michelin xl doesnt have enough wall strengh for the weight of the fox and thats why it requires run flats? I'd be surprised if that were true - modern tractors etc dont seem to ne run flast and have much bigger tyres? Any ideas if normal innner tub and no run flat is going to cause a major problem?
  8. We'll have a look if this guy ever comes back again - they still havent received the inner tube yet lol - got a feeling they never will - would it be ok just to remove the run flat from the tyre - I think Lee did this?
  9. On thinking about this we have removed the rims from the tyre - if there was a runflat would it not be attached to the rims? In which case I dont think i have a run flat at all?
  10. Hi, yes we did have the tyre off to swap it around - tyre tread was in wrong direction - what a can of worms Ive been off the road for 3 weeks over this with no resolution in sight - Ill try ringing round this weekend cheers Mark
  11. The tyres are Michelin XL so they may have run flats - how would we tell - there was a rubber wall inside the tyre but this is quite malleable when you press it - feels more like an inner tube - from the descriptions of the threads I read this run flat seems very hard so there would be no give?
  12. Hi, I needed a tyre swapping round on my FOX so I called out Wealden tyres to do it - unfortunately things are not going well - the tyres now punctured and its taking a long while to get it fixed - does anyone know another tyre fitter around Kent that might do call outs to get this fixed? or one close to Maidstone that i can drive down to? thanks Mark
  13. Crikey thanks! Thats enough to go on - silly metric system means I just dont know anything about the imperial sizes - 1 1/8" sounds about right to me but Ill check BSW BSF as well thanks again
  14. Hi, I have a FOX CVRW and I need to get a socket that fits a bolt on the FOX - this bolt is the same size on the hubs the drain plugs and gearbox plug. The bolt is made of brass but Ive tried a 30mm socket (slightly too big) and 27mm which is too small. What I need to know is how I measure the bolt head to order the correct imperial socket? Do I measure the diameter in imperial units? Any advice appreciated! thanks Mark
  15. Hi, I took the covers off but the bands seem to be hidden under the housing for them - I can feel them moving when I use the handbrake so I tighteneed up the adjuster nut so theres a good inch and a half of screw showing below the adjuster nut but it doesnt seem to have made any difference - do I just take the metal housing to pieces to see the condition of the bands themselves? or is there a simpler way to do this - i.e. take off the spring and undo a particular nut? Either way I reckon Im going to need new brake bands - could you le tme now how I can get them from yourself pls? thanks Mark
  16. even simpler the previous owner fitted a 12v spotlamp not a proper 24v lamp so it had burnt the wires - i tested the handbrakes tho and they still dont hold the vehicle on the slope - i think i may need new bands also tried to drain the coolant and the nut will not turn at all - im sure they are made of brass so maybe its fused on - any tricks to loosening it up?
  17. hi well thanks to the help so far ive fixed the handbrake , the power steering and changed the oils so next and the last things to do (some hope) is to fix the headlights wjich dont work - the side lights/ indicators all work so im hoping its just the bulbs that need changing - does anyone know what i should buy? as to brakes ive had a look at the indicator pins shown on the diagram in yhe manual and 2 need changing - can i do that with the wheels on as i can access the access hatch at the back and i think from the description that i can remove the old brake pads via rhis hatch - is this just wishful thinking? lastly the coolant gauge is not working which is a bit of a worry - i had a look at the coolant tanks but saw no wire or thermometer type thing which should show the temp so im not sure if its the gauge or the sensor thats the problem - anyone know where the sensor is for coolant? as ever thanks for the help - im nearly there cheers Mark
  18. crikey this is a helpful forum thanks for those replies - ok I get the series battery setup but looks like Ill have to get a car charger so Ill pick one up - I always used the trickle charger on the bike and love the fact I never get any battery problems with it Ill copy your setup on the camera as that looks great - thansk for the tip on the wiring as I wasnt sure how to do that cheers Mark
  19. Er no I dont quite understand the series thing - I have bought this system which states 12/24v so how should I wire this to the battery? Two SHARP CCD Cameras 12/24V Camera System with 7" Monitor 2x20M screw cables - its from www.Parkingcameras.com or should I get another battery just for the camera system?
  20. Hi, Thought I'd check before donig this so I didnt end up posting abotu a disaster and everyone saying "why didnt you ask before doing this.." I'm changing the engine oil and coolant and quite posibly the gearbox oil as well - altho the gearbox is working well with no problems so I may not Apart from running the vehicle before all I have to do is release the drain plugs on the underside of the chasis, wait a while and then refil with new oil and coolant right? Any pitfalls thats I'm not aware of? I havne't got a new oil filter for the CVRW yet but apparently they dont need chnaging as often as regualr car ones. Also Iw ant to trickle charge the batteries as Im getting a reversing camera which will hopefully just be powered off the main battery which I think is 12V 100AH - could I use my motorbike tricke charger for this? Its an optimate pro but IM not sure about electricity and whether this is powerfukl enough... thanks for any advice Mark
  21. Thats great - thanks - I'll take off the covers tonight and have alook at the bands condition - lets hope its just a tightening job - its the last problem to fix then its just oil/fluid change to do p.s re the plate - the original documentation for the vehicle states it served with the Yeomanry (Sherwood) I think - it ws sold to private owners in 1987
  22. ok thanks guys - was hoping I didn thave to do that but its never easy is it is anyone going to war and peace this year witha FOX by the way- would be nice to see a few others.. cheers Mark
  23. Hi all, Ok so due to advice already given Ive solved the power steering problem and the tyres now changed and the brakes have been checked and cleaned so the last thing I need to do before doing an oil chnage and coolant chnage this weekend is to adjust the handbrake. Ive found a diagram of this in the manual but I was just wondering how to get to the adjuster nut to tighten up the bands as the handbrake is loose at the moment. Is there an easy way to access it as currently I know the adjusters are somewhere in the boxes to the left and right of the driver next to the actual handbrake but not being houdinin or a contortionist Im not sure how to get to them? any ideas welcome cheers Mark p.s. got photos yesterday so will post them tonight hopefully
  24. Hi, Ill post a photo no probs - Im not sure what u mean by flywheel tho - the fluid coupling do u mean? Im just toppping up most of the stuff as it runs ok now - although Ill do an oil and coolant chnage as they havent been done for years. I really wanted the ep90 or 80/90w which is the lodexol ultradrive for the lines that you can open via a bolt in the hull. Just tom top them up. cheers Mark
  25. Hi, Just thought I'd post here to see what people think - I spoke to a very knowldgeable ex mod type at Morris lubricants and he came up with this list when he'd translated the Joint services numbers on the original servicing booklets I have suspension etc oep220 = lodexol ultradrive engine omd 110/75 = multi vis 15/50 gearbox OMD110 multi vis 15/50 hubs oep220 = lodexol ultradrive brake fluid OM 13 - liquamatic no2 fluid coupling OM13 - liquamatic no2 power steering OMD40 - multi vis 15/50 btw my original military plate was 10 FD 93 any thoughts on what coolant tio use - it was diluted Al 39 on my book - what does anyone else use? cheers Mark
