    Fascinating! I see the "bogey"/axle for want of a better term is located by the leaf springs and has a friction damper in each corner, but are there any other "stays" or pivot arms to keep things central? It's a cunning design.

    I can see that its effectively a square-surrounded/centerless beam axle but its still a little brain-bender 🤣

    There is the other rabbit hole whereby equipment would be supplied in "X", often DBG gloss from the 50s-on and then externally painted in whatever the unit demanded (IRR/Matt/Olive/Khaki/Camo), but that's a different hair-pulling exercise...

  3. Looking for a later Screw-Top 4-Gallon "Flimsy" Petrol Can to accompany my collection of No.1 Burners and associated kit.

    It doesn't have to be in perfect condition as its just for display purposes. Rust would be lightly treated and it would get a waft of satin lacquer to protect/preserve it if necessary.

    Well no Andy, you are neither right nor wrong. Until this is proved or disproved they are Schrodinger's Tanks.... 

    If Paul has GPR survey data of the whole site, including the aprons, and the survey shows no large infill/large metal hits but just "generic" (sorry to use that term) archeological hits beneath them, it will take a lot of convincing now sadly.

    Prove them wrong with empirical evidence, I would love to see hundreds of buried tanks!

    Paul, has there been any boreholes dug/sampled? Any rust/iron-rich runoff/oil/ground contamination to be found?

  5. Usually stuck on partially decomposed rubber seal.

    If you are certain that the pane is unlocked (the front one can slide back and forth), stand outside and sandwich the pane in your hands and gently but firmly try to jar it free. You can also use a razor blade/stanley blade and carefully go around the flat of the pane around the edge.

    When you get it free, use the razor blade to scrape any hard/fossilised rubber off of the window pane to help stop it "grabbing" again. A spray with silicone or PTFE lube often helps stop this happening as well.

  6. Hmm, something electric-scooter-ey may be an option but they tend to be about a 10" rim rather than 11".

    I'll keep an eye out though. I was in the same boat with a compressor trolley but managed to very very gently remove the tyre and fit a fresh tube inside it.

  7. With Lake and Elliott jacks, putting the handle all the way down lowers the jack. When you get a bit of pressure you can feel the stop/detent near the bottom of the stroke, until then it feels the same all the way down.

    Try pumping about two-thirds of the stroke from the top. If there's oil in the jack it should build pressure and move 🤞 If not, some 15 weight Jack Oil would do for topping it up 🙂

    Once out a bit you can give the top of the ram a little heat and see if it encourages the screw-top adjustment to move.

  8. The engine has the look of a Lister Junior or one of its larger brothers perhaps, running a lighting/power plant.

    The drill press has the look of a Denbigh about it, although many manufacturers produced similar looking tools at the time.

    The Lathe i'm unsure but it looks plain bearing and flat belt, either motor driven or possibly flat belt from the alternator pulley. It too could be Denbigh but there were many similar machines at the time.

    Hopefully someone will produce a CES for the workshop truck, that will provide good pointers.

  9. Looking for an oil filler cap for my Meadows 4DJ420. I haven't asked for a few years so I thought i'd try again....

    May be the same as other Meadows Engines? Please see photo of filler neck.
    Any condition considered, happy to rebuild/recreate something. Fed up with the rag and plastic bag I have to replace every couple of years 😒

    I believe there were 1970s re-issues of manuals but the references I have are sparce. I have a SEME user Handbook from 1980 but that's a bit of an aberration. If anyone has the Bordon Training Manuals (or their references) that would be superb!

    The SV/SF (Single Voltage Single Frequency) units appear to have dropped away first, or perhaps they were made in lower numbers? This is the type with the wardrobe-sized control panel on the rear end, large gauges and cast iron isolators. Also appears to have been more commonly fitted with an electric start/charge system, although this option was available for either unit.

    The DV/DF (Dual Voltage Dual Frequency) units appear to have been a little more common, better waterproofed, usually air-starting.
