  1. When is it please? I didn't know there was a show there. Sounds interesting. Daz

its on the 9th/10th July i.e. next weekend.

Good event, you look at the mv's and send the good wife and kids down the butterfly and otter sanctuary. Meet for a trip on the steam train later and finish off with a ride round on the miniature steam train.

    Easy

  2. Paul, its a quite cunning system!

Ok next stage undo the screws that hold the top cap assembly to the main body. In there you will see the 2 microswitches & 2 fuses. There is a 5A wire wound fuse that you can easily rewire. But I suspect your problem may be the main 25A fuse which is the main output fuse.

It is a thin metal strip held at each by chunky screws with a screwdriver slot & knurled sides. If the fuse has blown then there should be some spare ones screwed into the lid. They think of everything!

Once I had one of the screws for the spare fuses fall down & blow the main fuse as it shorted it to the case. The trouble was that this screw then shorted the live terminal to the case & partially melted the screw & terminal. I hope you have better luck!

    Hi Clive

The fuses are okay. I have also manually operated the micro switches and the light does dim when operated, likewise when I tighten the cap on the outside.

    Cheers

  3. Paul. What sort of generator system do you have?

Original with Dynamo: Generator No.2 & Gen Panel No.2

    or

Rover type Alternator: Generator No.10 & Gen Panel No.9

    Hi Clive

According to the plate on the side of the generator its a no2 mk 2.

    Cheers

  4. The Saracen is going really well at the moment, even managed a prom last night, however, the generator isn't charging. When the revs are around 2,500 the charging light dims but doesn't go out, so I'm running on battery power the whole time.

Are there any common faults with these, has the chewing gum come unstuck under the generator panel perhaps? or maybe, just a guess here, but does the engine need to come out to get at the generator? In which case I'll just carry some extra batteries around for now.

    Cheers

  5. Everybody's responsibility? To check every vehicle at a rally is taxed and insured?! My responsibility ends at paying over inflated premiums due to the none insured morons....And also paying my council tax to pay for the Police who seem to be taking uninsured vehicles off the road.

Most of the rallies I book into request insurance details if the vehicle isn't just a static display, which is great, I wouldn't however want to show my cover note to some mithering idiot at a rally field.

If you use an uninsured vehicle on public roads, you deserve everything that you have coming.

My point is more general, and is that if you become aware of any sort of wrong doing/ something that has been overlooked you, as a responsible member of society should do something about it, otherwise you have no right to complain if it affects you in some adverse way.

To put it into practice with your own example, IF you became aware that someone is on the road without insurance you have a responsibility to do something about it or else you would have no right to complain about your inflated insurance premiums.

    Simples.

  6. Unbelievable.

Mind your own business is my first responce to a thread like this, what does it have to do with you? If you're really that concerned, speak to the vehicle owner, I'm sure the Police have better things to be doing than visiting rallies under the say so of busybodies like yourself.

Thats easy to say until its your son/daughter that gets run over and disabled by an uninsured driver,

As far as I'm concerned too many people turn blind eyes to things when its actually everyone's responsibility to get taxed and insured. Tax is the thin end of the wedge. However, I would say approach the owner first because often it could be a misunderstanding

  8. Took the saracen out for a run yesterday. The new temp sender unit is showing that she is holding temp at around 160 degrees. However, the problem we had was with power from the batteries.

She didn't want to start first of all with the batteries beginning to die, but started anyway. After 10 mins tick over while we checked a few things over I stopped the engine, only to find that the starter showed signs of having no connection, no click even. Persumed started connection lost.

So, desperate to take her out to see if the overheating was actually occurring we started her with the starting handle and went for a trip out. All went well until returning home after about 5 miles (during which she was starting to lose power a little) when, approaching a right hand turn everything died. Would not start on the handle and the starter was still dead. Persumed the drop in revs approaching the turning lost me any charge from the generator.

Got a lift back home and put the batteries on full charge for 20 mins. took them back and fitted them up. After that the saracen started on the starter and flew home, driving really really nicely.

Obviously the generator isn't charging, in fact the dash light only dims and doesn't go out until around 2500 revs. I was wondering whether my previous problems are due to this and not overheating at all. Whenever I pulled over to let the engine cool I found she ran alot better afterwards for a while. But perhaps that was due to the new batteries recovering? Certainly had the same dead starter symptoms after a trip last year until she had sat a while.

Anyone else had similar issues with these machines?

    Cheers

  9. Just returned from Latrun where my wife & I were priviliged to have a conducted tour of this super museum.

One of the tanks I was looking for was the Stuart Mk3 "Honey" simply because I served in one of these in wartime Italy.

The only difference was that "my" one was turretless which, although it made it faster and easier to use for it's chosen role as a recce vehicle also left it wide open to receive whatever the enemy chose to throw at you

    Ron

    Hello Ron

My uncle also served in Italy in one of those, he said much the same thing.

Here is a link about him and his experiences
