Been looking at the mortar investments site, £17,000 ish for a t55 and transporter? Lots and lots of goodies for the aspiring but naive tank collector such as myself to look at.

However, wouldn't fancy sending 50% money up front to a foreign company I didn't know, Plus, what are the minefields to importing these things?

Having said that I couldn't imagine a better road trip than driving your own Tatra and t55/t72 back across europe.

Any thoughts or experiences with these guys?

i know i know, lots of green goddesses are still in really good condition but mine happens to be rough.

This is only my second vehicle, and my first soft skin, however, I'm determined. I'm sharing the shed with work which means that Dolly (the green goddess) has to leave the shed most daytimes to make room.

However, I'm doing a kind of video diary on youtube.com, just to see how it goes. The videos should be on the search engine in a few hours time (I've just uploaded them to the site) and can be found by searching for "green goddess dolly".

Any advice is always gratefully accepted.

I have an electric pump, its wired directly off of the battery through a 24v/12v dropper. It works really well, especially if you are low on fuel. As long as you get one that only pushes at about 2 lbs else you might keep flooding the carb.

same here,

Ferret was popping away, lots of flames out the exhaust when decelerating. It went suddenly down hill in the middle of a carnival. New points and condenser went along way to curing it. Changing the fuel mixture did the rest.

Hi All

Well 00ca40, (my ferret mk 1/2) is running really well now after a long battle with the b60. However, I am finding that on some runs the engine shows an over temperature intermittently.

For example, I took it out on saturday and the temperature went to max within 2 miles. I got to the garage to fill up after another 2 miles. When restarting the ferret the temperature sat at about 3/4 way up the gauge (can't remember is that about 190-200?) and stayed there for the rest of the trip home.

This is not a major problem of course but it is unsettling to see the temp so high. Has anyone else had this issue on their b series engines?

Hi Robert,

Yes they look really great, but I've done a bit of searching and the price for the t55 am2 is around 40,000 euros. Still a bit of an ouch!

There seem to be more and more russian tanks - T55s and T72s as well as loads of other tracked stuff becoming available from eastern europe which is great as I'm a particular fan of the T72. However, does this increased availability mean that the price will be driven (no pun intended) down over time?

Is this a bad time to invest in something really cool and lots of fun from that part of the world?

I'm looking at possibly purchasing a new vehicle and am looking at something a bit more practical for running to and from work than either my ferret or green goddess, although both are lots of fun to drive.

Something like a champ, lightweight or even dare I say a kubelwagon (out of my price range though sadly). Maybe even a Gaz 69, which I think have a real charm about them.

Does anyone have experience and advice of what to look for with any of these?

I agree with all of the above and could bang on for ages and ages.

I would say that

mk 1's are for performance because they are lighter, faster up hills. but the commander has to like being out in bad weather.

Mk 2's are cool because they have a turret that turns and has a gun in it, a bit like a small tank, but not alot of room for people.

Mk 1/2's have weather protection and lots of room for extra people, especially if you get one with the interior fold up seats, probably the social person's ferret, but no turny aroundy turret.

Hello All,

I'm pretty new to all of this, I own a mark 1/2 ferret 00ca40, currently stripped down ready for undercoating, and also just recieved a green goddess, which is to double up as a fire tender for work, I've just posted a question about the pump on the "I may be stupid" part of the forum.

Anyway, this forum really looks the part and thanks to those responsible for taking the time to do it all. Sometimes a bit of info. or advice can make a huge amount of difference.

I'm hoping, when my small fleet is ready, to start showing them, but for now its down to the nitty gritty (and best bit) of working on them.

By the way, I'm in the middle of Devon and have been a MVT member for about 14 months, and thats it really.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but it all looks great.

The thing is, I've become the proud owner of a green goddess. Its partly becuase I love green machines and partly because we did have a nearly disasterous fire last summer and so I need the goddess to be operational.

Anyway, I finally got the correct user manual for the sigmund pump and a group of us had a go on Sunday morning. The problem is we cant get pressure up apart from when priming, and then its not very much. No leaks in the pipeline though.

Rather than go into huge detail about it all, I thought I'd ask if anyone out there has experience with these pumps?
