Strange one as you can carry people in the back of farm trailers........unless that too has changed.
This has changed in the Netherlands after an accident where a number of kids died who where in the back off a farm trailer....
-
In Holland you can drive with a trailer if it weights no more then 750kg and even more is the weight of the the trailer does not exceed the weight of the car (and the combination weights no more then 3500kg).
I also just read that a vehicle that weights more then 3500kg because of armour plating can still be driven with a normal licence if the weight of the vehicle minus the weight of the armour is less then 3500kg. Nifty!
-
Thats the sad part of it, the Dodge WC was used for people transportation but now it's illegal
-
Unless the vehicle is registered prior to 1960 - then as a historic vehicle it can be driven on the ordinary car licence (group "B") irrespective of weight......
This is only irrespective of weight or also of tracked or non-tracked?
-
Wow I wish we'd have those rules too although I'd probably be unable to drive a GMC. Those things are BIG!!!
-
Thanks!
So if I understand it correctly, when you have a driverslicence for a normal 1200kg sedan you are also allowed to drive a 4500kg truck? I'm going to move to the UK!
-
I maybe stupid, but......
Are you allowed to carry people in the back of your Dodge or GMC when drive on public roads?
In the Netherlands it's forbidden, people may only be carried on seats specially installed for the transportation of persons. Benches in the back of my Dodge WC51 do not count as such
-
Do you need a special drivers licence in England when you want to drive a vehicle over 3500kg ?
Do you need a special licence to drive a tracked vehicle?

In Holland I use the Wegenwacht, the Dutch equivalent of the AA. They are absolutely fabulous, saved my ass twice allready. The first time they towed me all the way back to homebase (with a car behind me for security) when one of my gear forks broke.
The second time, three weeks ago they got me home after my fuel filter got clogged, my fuel pump died and my electrics short circuited. Even then they got me on the road and again followed me all the way back to homebase.
And all this for only 80 euro's a year (!!!).

Can't wait to see your GMC finished and funny that you already met them!

Perhaps for stimulation I found this french website on the restauration of a Clubmobile:

Last week I was in the Wings of Liberation Museum in Best, Netherlands and they had a huge trailer outside and I was wondering what monster WWII truck could tow such a trailer and what was it used for?
-
Don't be sorry for the amount of pictures, more is better!!!!!

They found the Priest in Germany (near Goch) where it was standing outside at a scrapyard for 10 years. Thank heavens they did not scrap it!!

On my dodge WC51 I've got a fairly large rope to tie on my front bumper, the question is how to put it on? Was it done in a special manner or did nobody care?
Also, what's the best way to put on new vehicle markings? I've got myself a can of white spray paint but not stencil letters yet. When I got them, what's the trick in doing it the right way, the first time?
