Would be cool! The only thing I ever saw (out of a museum) was a solid rust ball of barbed wire on the Verdun battlefields.
-
What gearbox oil would you reccomend me? I've drained it all and I want to clean it up with parafine (sp?) and then put new oil in, but what to get?
It's for a Dodge WC 51 but I think type does not matter much in this subject.

How do you fix those holes, take out the panel and replace it or are there more ingenious ways?
-
I follow a miltitude of forums too, nice waste of time at work
I suggest merge some of the Off Topic forums, we have plenty of those. Also the "The thoughts behind this forum" could be a sticky at a different forum.
-
Do we really need all these forums? Can't a few be merged because it's rather hard to keep track of things in the current setup.

I've seen the pictures too and one of those scrap yards is not too far from my house. Better stay away tho or I might buy a vehicle I do not need

1. M8 Greyhound
2. Daimler armoured car
3. Brengun Carrier
4. Sherman tank
5. Halftrack (with meat grinder)
But it's hard to choose, right now I'm totally happy with my WC51 but if money is of no importance....

My Dodge is in a caravan storage not far from my house. It's dry and cheap (€ 150 a year), if I need it all I need to do is call them and come pick it up. I'm even allowed do do some maintenance on it!
-
Great I'll keep an eye on that site!

What a story, talk about bad luck
Will you keep us posted for the restauration?
-
Hi and welcome!
-
You had no idea how elated I felt when we saw that the problem was this easy to fix.
The Dodge is in exptional good state, the former owner really did a great job restoring it. That was why it was such a bummer for us to have it broken down after only four weeks. But it turns out we were lucky and this turns out to be a good lesson in Dodge maintance.

Well since I have a Blog, why not use it so I'm posting my gearbox restoration in my blog.

This is what we did today:
Today we started operation Gearbox, Part one!
Before we began:
We took out the left floor panel:
And then the centre floor panel so we had access to the gearbox, this took us about 30 minutes to get all the bolts out.
Then we took off the yoke and the problem was rather easy to spot, one of the forks had broken off and was missing.
Inside the gearbox the fork was nowhere to be seen so we had to drain the oil.
After opening one of the side panels of the gearbox we saw the missing fork and took it out:
Finally we lifted one of the wheels and spun it around so the gears would rotate and we could see any damage done by the fork.
Even though there was some damage to the teeth and some marks on the fork there was very little damage to see. Some teeth were a bit damaged but that was no more then could be expected since it has been used. There seems to be no reason to replace the gearbox.
Now I'm going to hunt for a fork and then install it.
I've got the feeling we'll get this Dodge running very quickly!

Arnhem 1944: The Airborne Battle, 17-26 September (Penguin History) by Martin Middlebrook
Very informative and nice to read.

Written by Richard Holmes.
I'm reading this book and if you ever wanted to know something about the brits at WWI this is your book. Very informative, nicely written and with some laughs added to it makes this book very easy to read.

I've created my own blog too, nothing on it yet but the domain name is mine http://wc51.blogspot.com/

Do we need so many forums?
in Tell us...!

I know you're talking in your second tongue and you do very well at it, but for clarity when you say Forums do you mean threads, on this forum.
We have the power to merge THREADS but not to merge with other FORUMS. They are run by other people.
If you can be precise what it is you would like merged, we'll see what we can do.
No it's not the number of threads, this is rather a quiet place if you look at it that way. It's the number of forums and categories that daunt me.
I may be a newcomer to this website but I'm not new to using forums.
It's just a question and if everybody thinks this setup is fine please leave it that way. I'll adapt to it.
