I could always use more manuals but my collection is getting bigger
Why are you having trouble with importation? Is it that no-one will send them to you or that you can't get them into the country? I could probably source some from Australia for you, if you like?
Cheers,
Terry
Terry, there is a restriction on "military-type" spares being imported, this was from England. I had the same story from 3 or 4 sources, who were keen to do business. The spares was readily available but permitting and red-tape unfortunately put an end to that. I never tried getting spares from Oz. Do you have an idea as to how many sarry's were exported to Oz, from the info I had gathered at some point in time, it could not have been more than thirty or so?
I will look up your email address again and put in some effort to send you the info that I have.

Silly question. Would you be able to use one of your current parts to have new ones made?
Toner, I had similar thoughts at some point but after I had a bevel gear repaired, the thought had evaporated! The wheel station in question was covered on Page 5 of this thread. Here is a pic...

It looks like an early Mk 1 (note the 3 door turret). Maybe it was there for trials?
How is your Saracen going? Made any more progress on getting it back on the road? I've had mine out and about, but it's off the road again until I can get one of the tyres repaired.
Cheers,
Terry
No progress at all, still trying to find wheel reduction spares, importing is no good, so stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.
Good news about your sarry! I have been out of circulation for a while, have you managed to get all the manuals/ info you were looking for?

My Mk 5 has been christened "Bargearse" by my mother
What would be the story behind that?

Is nobody ever going to post a video on how to drive a sarry? From the inside, showing the routine that the driver goes through, driving it??? PLEASE???

Hi, first one is a muzzle cover for the Browning - quite old that one. number two is a tool for removing the filler plug on the fluid flywheel. It holds the filler plug captive as you don't rearly want to drop it down into the vehicle.
I learn't something too! How does it hold the plug, is it magnetic?

Saracen exhaust at top photo, Saladin bottom photo.
Andy.
These look very nice manfactured in Stainless Steel! What grade was used?

Oily, you may pick up something from when I wrestled through adjusting the settings on this one's gearbox
[htmlHappy new Year to all of you and may prosperity bore you!
My year started of well with me eventually getting round to spend some time on the gearbox. Having first read up in the manual regarding the slack on the gear pedal, mine definitely was not adjusted correctly. After battling for quite a while adusting this way and that way, it seemed that I had my 1/2" clearance between the pedal and the bulkhead. After bolting everything down and checking the clearance, I was satisfied that it was a job well done.
Great was my shock when cycling the gearbox! it was in neutral and all of a sudden the pedal stayed well down. Flabergasted I shifted the gearlever to 1st gear and nearly got my knee against my chin from the kickback! 2nd gear and 4th gear gave the same results as 1st gear returning solidly against the bulkhead with no play whatsoever!. 3rd gear is mild in comparison and left some play to the bulkhead. 5th gear in turn is even milder with even more play between pedal and bulkhead.
My opinion is that the gearbox adjustments are way off and needs to be opened. Your opinions, please.
Oh, and another thing, what is the "pedal up" procedure, please? I don't seem to pick it up in the manuals that I have. ][/html]

Interesting question, Oily!
I also battled with the gearbox adjustments in my sarry but with Richard's help over Skype, we managed to sort it. It was not taken for a test drive yet as the ultimate test, but all other tests proved satisfactory. There was a bit of a write up in that sarry rebuild thread of mine. Did you win with the missing page from your manual?
My sarry still has that leaking centre bevel box, though!

LOTS AND LOTS of pictures closely following the process are to follow!
Plus, if I can arrange it, some on-board and roadside footage of it on the move!
Good show, looking forward to it!

My wonderful Saracen is back on the road after a long hibernation, and fluid-flywheel seal replacement!
Great news, Oily!!

Why the blue lights, was it used for law enforcement?

I have attached a few pictures showing the mount and before you ask it currently sports a .303 water pipe!
I like this! Very original!

Here she iswith yours truly at the helm. Taken when I took possession a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have removed and rebuilt the carb as it was not running very well. Put it all back together this weekend and now it starts and runs very smoothly. Next job is to check the oil levels in the bevel boxes and hubs and then I can take it for a long awaited drive. Having gone over it pretty thoroughly today I think I'm right in saying that there are no filling tubes for any of the bevel boxes, none in the engine bay and I don't see any inside either. Still not a problem, I just need to get some oil this week.
As soon as I have all the service jobs done, I will be starting work on the body, the old paint looks like it will come off without much problem.
Great! Can you find the registration number of it?
