couple of long hard days for sure but worth it, finally got home at 10.30 pm.

and so onto the next buried tank :cool2:

i'm going back down on thursday to move the tank and reassemble it as best i can. we'll be using a giant 4x4 forklift to up end it and get the crap out of it, after which it will be moved nearer to the main building and put together with the parts we have.

i'm looking for volunteers to help with the resto. i'm bringing a gas axe and welder genset and an assortment of large hammers. anyone that knows how to use these precision tools will be most welcome

i did have my revenge on suggs. on the tuesday morning my mind was on my family not the recovery, as i went to the dig site there was a group of film types hanging around, they'd heard about my family and were shaking my hand commiserating. i shook this one fella's hand then realised it was suggs and i said the first thing that came into my mind " f@ckin hell suggs you've aged" don't think it went down well but then again i'm not known for my diplomacy

yes rog it's still on the track near the dig site.

interesting article in the times. didn't mention me anywhere. the truth is the film guys really hindered the recovery and have only offered me £150 to cover costs. it will be more like £2000 by the time it's done but i'm happy to have been able to recover it.

money will come and go but tanks are forever

got to laugh though, i thought i was doing something important but once my wife told me about the bomb i couldn't care less if the tank got cut up, i just wanted to get home where they needed me.

puts things into perspective! however the tank hasn't been cut up and normal play will resume shortly

it's my recovery, not a tv programme, if they want to film me doing it then ok but i won't be told what to do. i would much rather do it off camera but the vineyard wants the publicity (which is fair enough) and besides it will be good for the "cause" to get a few more people interested in trying to save these tanks.

so in answer to your question yes i will put up some pics when i get back.

i'm looking forward to it. there's a bit of geo phys being done this week on the rest of the anti tank ditch so we might be doing more recoveries in the future

we're pulling the tank out on the 23rd (next tuesday) if anyone wants to come and watch. i've enlisted the help of a friends recovery truck and we expect, if all goes to plan to be winching it out in the early afternoon. let's hope there is enough tank left to recover

sounds interesting. i hired a magnetometer for £30 a day to find the covenanter and it worked very well and was easy to use. that might be the best option to find large ferrous objects

it's a nice job but to sell it as a wartime maultier might cause a few legal issues with the new owner !

history channel are covering it now and the dig should be sometime in june. i'm looking forward to it coming out and into the sunlight where it belongs.

is it just me or does the maultier look like a replica based on a T16

i was told to use super unleaded because it doesn't have ethanol in, (the the ethanol attacks the rubber in the fuel pump and carb) however at 3 gallons to the mile i stuck with the cheapest i could find and i didn't have any problems

i'd like outriggers for my own piece of mind but it does perform quite well without them
