  1. chassis and rear axle now sand blasted and in the workshop, some small areas of deep pitting will be filled with weld and then ground flat, engine has gone to gardner enthusiast to be repaired. big end bearings were breaking up and blocks needed new liners, pistons are re usable and will have new rings fitted, gearbox only needed cleaning and will be painted before fitting in chassis which will get primer and one coat of colour before engine gearbox and back axle are fitted. will get final coats of colour then. still a long way to go but at least now its going back together. anybody on here now about the rear axle hub seals as it needs two replaceing that are leaking

  2. went today weather good sun out all day cold wind though. 2 mbt ,3 stolly's, diamond t, antar plus usual jeeps and so on, not been before so enjoyed it. on the down side, area for demo of military vehicles is a bog at the side of the show ground, drier ground would have been better.

  3. hi and welcome simon

i am in the middle of a pioneer restoration myself, if i can help in any way let me know, us scammellers have to stick together god knows we need all the help we can get, if you ever get over leeds way call in and have a chat.

  4. hi robin, i drove the pioneer before the strip down and the gearbox did everything it should so am leaving well alone, the engine on the other hand needs a full rebuild, it needs a new block on the last 3 cylinders, don't know what the crank is like yet but will get reground and shells if it needs it as when it is all finnished i want to drive it as often as possible and tak4e it on some decent road runs.

  5. the topic of originality crops up in all groups of preserved vehicles, not just military, i got in to military vehicles via scammells as they are a favourite of mine and there have been long debates in the classic truck magazines on what is an original vehicle, something close to how it left the factory is a good start with a truck. but with military stuff was then added later. to cut to the chase, if a vehicle has been saved from the scrap man then it can only be a good thing however it looks, take it to shows so the paying public have an array of vehicles to look at. if you want to compete for a prize then its up to the judges to decide which is the best one. we all see things differently but everyone should be encoureged in vehicle preservation to keep it alive and enjoyable.
