  1. spoken to autosparks, they don't have a plan for the pioneer, can only copy an existing loom, to cover a loom supplied by myself in cotton braid is £2.85 per foot which sounds like it could easily come to a £100.00 or more, have found an auto electrician who thinks he can make a loom for £350.00 ish and that includes him supplying the wire and then i could cover it in the cotton braid from vintage car parts with heat shrink to seal the ends, john.

  2. thanks both richard's, i think a chat with auto sparks is on the agenda, if i make my own loom up out of loose wires and get auto sparks to wrap it in cotton it should be tight as opposed to a cotton tube which will need to be slightly slack to get cable's to feed down, will also ask autosparks how much for them to make a loom from scratch, you never know it might not be as much as you think, and if so could there be a demand for a small number produced. will post again when i have spoken to them, many thanks for your replies john.

  3. Do not have any original loom left on my pioneer, thanks for that Richard, if you are going to make your own loom how do you plan on covering multiple strands of wire in braid and how many colours of wire do you need and will you have to buy a reel of each one no matter of how much or little of each one you need, if there is a way of reducing costs if shared let me know, thanks again john.

  4. i am not far off putting the engine back in the chassis of my scammell pioneer, the workshop manual says two trommels are required to line up the engine and gearbox so it doesnt destroy the rubber cush drive, does anybody have some to loan me or is there another way of doing this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hi John, looks like a good project, my old one is buried in this thread somewhere but here it is on CCMV http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p411439082/h2e0b3959#h2e0b3959

A 35t Crusader 5th wheel will fit fine, only the release handle is different. I can provide a rough sketch of the mounting adaptor if you don't have one.

Has the rear crossmember been removed, I can't see the towing eye and winch rollers?

hi radiomike, i have sourced the correct 5th wheel with bed plate that will go straight on the chassis, rear crossmember is missing along with the winch rollers which i will have to find for it or fabricate another one so if anybody has one laying around i would be interested.

  6. hi andy, this is a team effort, norris a model engineer helped with the rear body and makes small parts on his lathe and miller and john who is an hydraulics engineer and very clued up guy helps with everything, i have no engineering background myself but have picked it up as i have gone along, if in doubt ask is my motto, and also very fortunate to have a decent workshop with a forklift, the one thing that never changes in a resto is that it will take you twice as long and cost twice as much as you originally estimated.

  7. Some more progress on the scammell, compressor bearings were rough so it is stripped and ready to be rebuilt, new seals will be also fitted, getting 7 rims ready for shot blast and the radiator needs rebuilding, tubes leaking and holes in the ally bottom tank, just when I thought things would get better.

  8. I enjoy restoring vintage vehicles, 3 of them happen to be ex military, only one will be finished in deep bronze green, I have never been in any of the armed services and will not be wearing a uniform of any sort, I have a very good friend who served in the 2nd world war and on hearing some of his stories I think it would be disrespectfull to wear one, but that is only my personal opinion, re,enactors would look pretty silly in anything other than a uniform, as for vehicle owners it's there choice,
