    Hi James, not sure when they changed the carriages. But the Mk2 certainly is more straight forward than the Mk1 type, it must have taken ages to do all that riveting!!!     Hi James, I found the markings on the jacket on the opposite side to the oil gravity tank, and as far as I know they are for the Herts & Beds Yeomanry, 201 Field Battery. I have seen some old pictures with markings/numbers on the trail, but I think from memory they were on the other side of the carriage from yours, though this is not to say they wouldn't have been on both sides. I will try and find them again!! I got them in 2007. Cheers, Mel

    Clive thanks for the link. Wally/Paul, at the risk of sounding stupid, would I be right in thinking that by the 60's they had done away with the red/blue with white numbers in favour of the white with black numbers?? However saying that I found a couple of black and white photos taken in Germany in 1962 showing the tractors with what seems to be the old type serial numbers?? Totally by coincidence, I have another Matador with the same serial number painted on the white diff as you said. Cheers, Mel :-)

    Hi Tim, Thanks for the link to these pictures I think you could be onto something here. Also the tubular frame that carries the canvas is higher than the standard Artillery Tractor steel roof which could, I guess, allow for the extra height on the top of the searchlight. I know where there is one in a Museum which is easily accessible to measure, so I'll take my tape with me next visit. Cheers Mel. :-)

    If it was for the Lance I don't think the loading ramps would be needed, as these are at quite a steep angle. I guess the search light would make more sense, does any one have any pictures of this by any chance? I have also seen some pictures of Mat's with generators in the back, does any one think that they may have been on 'skid' frames which could be hauled up into the body?? Cheers, Mel :-)

    Hi There, has anyone got any ideas what the '145' markings on the off side front of my AEC Matador relate to?? I think they are possibly from it's days in the BAOR?? There is also a Union Jack on the near side. The truck is a 1944 build but was rebuilt in 1953 and then sold off around 1967. The blue paint is its post military colour, the markings are painted underneath this and on top of green. :-)

    Hi there, does anyone have any idea what the frame in the back of my 1951 AEC Matador is for?? There are also 2 really heavy duty ramps that go with it and the winch cable can be brought up into the front of the body via a couple of pulleys to help get whatever the load was up into the back of the body. The truck is all original and this is not a civilian post Army mod. The frame is marked 'A', the ramps 'B' and the pulley system 'C' if this helps anyone? :-)

    I wasn't sure where it was, but it was the one that had been a Fire Engine. I hope it has gone to a good home and will been seen on a rally field somewhere in the not so distant future :-)
