  1. The closed cab GMC had a later body sat on it (not fixed) It did look ready for paint (the body) I am NOT and expert but I would have said the body was 50's, although it looked nice and solid...well apart from the missing floor parts.....

    Correct, that GMC has a post-war Swiss body.

  2. No, it's 21% over the hammer price PLUS 21% over the markup, not 21% over hammer price and markup together.

    This screenshot of a (cancelled) bid was posted on another webforum, it shows the components of the final price.

    Indeed, so it is 21% over (hammer price + markup). The bid + markup totals EUR 7424, 21% of which is EUR 1559.04. This is made up from 21% over the bid (EUR 1344) plus 21% over the markup (EUR 215.04) - added up this is the same as 21% over the bid + markup (EUR 1559.04). It is listed separately so both the seller and the auctioneer know which amount of VAT to pay to the tax services.

    So the general tax rule of having to pay 21% VAT over the total price of any item bought is also applied here. Like you said earlier, in total 40,36%.

  3. The total price is as follows:

    Bid + 16% actioneer's premium = subtotal.

    Subtotal + 21% VAT of the bid + 21% VAT of the auctioneer's premium = Total price.

    So for a bid/hammer price of €1000, it would be 1000 + 160 + 210 + 33,6 = €1403,6. That makes it just over 40% to add.

    I went to the viewing too and I have no explanation for quite a lot of the bids. For some vehicles the bids by themselves would already be near or over the top value, let alone if you add another 40%...

    Bidding frenzy....

    FYI, one has to pay 21% VAT over the total price of any item bought.

    In this case: winning bid x 1.16 (16% markup) x 1.21 (21% VAT)

    Import a HMV from abroad? Pay 21% VAT over purchase price PLUS shipping costs...

    Buy a new car? Pay list price PLUS special car tax and then you pay 21% VAT over that....so you pay taxes over taxes, totaling up to 45% taxes on a new car :shocked:

  4. from the build tag in your photos the truck is as Neils suggests a C30. From left to right the numbers mean the following

    1= year of manufacture

    8= CMP military pattern design

    4= number of wheels

    4= number of wheels supplied with power

    1= code for C30cwt

    0= spare space

    the next 4 numbers= the number of trucks of this type in your case 30cwt CMP design built

    So your truck appears to be a late 11 cab C30 produced in the first two months of 1941 just before 12 cab production came on line.

    Jean,

    Further to what Pete wrote, the "X2" means for export to the UK, as per the table in Wheels & Tracks issue No. 37 (October 1991): "CMP Assembly Overseas - Re-assembly of knocked-down Canadian Military Pattern vehicles".

    Also, the lower plate in one of your photos is a rebuild plate. Often these have a post-war date, but your C30 seems to have been rebuilt on 20-Jan-45 if I read it correctly. By that time it was four years old and apparently had seen enough service to warrant a rebuild.

    If you post a better picture of this plate there may be someone on this forum who can identify the workshop where it was rebuilt.

    Hope this helps,

    Hanno

  5. any idea why they're out there? Doesn't look like they were ever range targets, and it's post war equipment.

    Are they still there? Hopefully not cut up and scrapped like the German Churchills and Conquerors

    It's an ex-military training ground, and is now a nature reserve. Maybe they do not want to recover the tanks to no disturb the nature reserve.

  6. Very interesting clip. I expected the farmer when he arrived with his pony and trap to demand compensation for the damage they had done to his field.

    It was either having to sell or give his crops to the Germans occupiers or having it turned into an airstrip by the liberators - I'm sure he was happier seeing the Germans gone :D
