Pity about the 'orrible music, well its not real music is it ............

I did not see this but was it both Peter Snow and his son Dan fronting a programe about the Second Battle of the Somme ?

The exception that proved the rule....British wartime armour up until the Comet was chronic, badly specified, poorly designed, pooly built and not really fit for purpose. At least from an engineering design point of view the Cromwell A27M was up to scratch. Just look at the engine bay and then compare with a Sherman, the M4 / M4A3 Sherman is simplicity itself.....M4A4 is another matter.
When do you expect the Metor to be fired up Rick?
Alastair
I must disagree with your comments above, you are employing General Hindsight. It is quite easy from 2012 and look back at others efforts that with the benifit of the officer quoted. Circumstances, mind sets, proceedures, the imperatives of war make decisions that today we may conclude were wrong. Of course some aspects of AFV design are not, err what shall we say 'not quite right'. To lump it all together in a sweeping statement is a little harsh on those engineers who did not have all the technical advantages that we have today.

If I may, I would not sandblast off those original registration numbers, work round them if at all possible.

A good friend of mine watched it who was a driver on an Abbot. His was 07EB35, it would be nice for him to know what became of it, anyone know ?

There's one just behind the Scorpion. Shame the VRN isn't visible.
Andy
The numbers were mostly painted over with black paint. it soon got washed off with thinners after delivery.
The Abbot in the background was next to go onto Frank's wagon.
-
Yes Bob, we all make little mistakes now and then. I presume that there was more than the Scorpion going on that trailer as can clearly be seen Frank had extended the bed out before removing the neck.
It was another Abbot, not that one which we must not mention.

John; Please don't mention that Abbot, quite embarassing.....
Robin; It was one of the depot staff driving it, I was the photographer, I don't recall the number but I will have a look in old diaries to see who ended up with it. All that stuff behind was sold off, a Tender Sale got rid of everything.

I put one on a public weigh bridge in 1995 (ish) 15.2 tonnes and a Mk1 432 was 12.5 tonnes

Another con...... The DUKW had supposidley not run or moved for ages but when it was reversed out there was grass under it that was just the same apperance as all the rest of the grass. Vehicle was placed there just for the video.

Yes, but if I was to do it againe I would use a branded fencepaint, ronseal for example.
Took about 5 coats as asda fence paint was very very transparent.
Thank you I will give it a try..............

Have thougt about a cammo net over the top, but, it would need to be a big camo net(tent is 11x7) and you can always see through a como net, and they are a pain in the arse to use!
I was in asda today and they had a water based spray on fence panel stain, dark brown, and £10 for 5 litres.
I need to colour/dye/paint some canvas, did it work ?

I was taken to the location of the Covenanter in the mid 1990's. I took a photograph but at the moment I don't know where it is. I will see what I can find..........

I've heard people have done it, so, how do I do it?
I found a M31 hull in France that I'd like to buy. - it's a US WWII tank. It's the recovery version so it has no armament and is "demilled". It has no engine or transmission.
Has anyone ever dealt with importing US armor? If so, how did you do it?[/QUOT

Google Sreet View, no good whatsoever, the lazy mans way of doing Then and Now comparisons. I have been on this T&N caper for 40 odd years on the old Western Front. The Now photographer needs to stand on the exact spot, give or take a yard and take numerous shots, one of which is selected in comfort of ones armchair by the fireside.....
There is no empathy with the subject unless you are on the ground looking at the location with the old fashioned Mk1 eyeball.

For 'cotter pin', read split pin.............
Akurassy please.

Alian FTM......."the Kaisers 'unbeaten' field army" are you sure about that ?
8 August to 11 November 1918, pray tell me of a German victory during the 100 days. Yes I know there is no such thing as a victory in war but I am sure you get my drift on this.
