Very good value for money in my opinion.

Are you going to the YWE ? Hoping to take the Sabre if I can get the engine back in (too much work at moment!).

The only real solution may be to acquire one of each of them (that is my plan lol).:cheesy:

The amphibious bit is really cool though and they really move in water.

Spent the day at the Haworth 40's weekend event today. I didn't enjoy it as much as last year's event. There were much less vehicles there and next to none Germans. They spent a great deal of time dissuading the Axis contingent from parcipitating and largely achieved their objectives. The Hurricane flyover was great though and I met a few enthusiastic MV owners who were disappointed that I hadn't brought any of my vehicles. They are all postwar and too big for the spaces available there. A shame but next year if I have a Jeep I will attend. The missus fancied a Dodge command car until I told her how much they fetch....

Loving it !!!! I can't wait to get my BRDM too !!!

I would personally love to see it at Duxford. In my opinion there should be at least one of every machine preserved whatever the politics of the situation.

The weather had to spoil itself though. It became really cold after 2pm..:-(

Rest in peace Lady Thatcher. The greatest leader of my lifetime. To me you put the Great back into Britain.

So far this government are more vehicle friendly than their predecessor.

The last time I was in Normandy I spoke to one British Vetran, he stated very strongly he preffered France, he felt much more welcome and valued there than he did in UK. Amongst other things, have any people actually thought of visiting the British and Commonwealth landing beaches?
Most certainly did visit the British and Commonwealth landing beaches. I also visited the graves it brings it all home when you see how many there is from all arms of the services. The German graves seemed very sad somehow and I must admit that I welled up in every grave I visited,Allied or enemy. Even the wife commented that none of the combatants wanted to be there they were all regular guys whatever uniform they wore, someone's son, brother husband , father.

i often wonder what the british veterans think when they go to shows and see so many guys dressed as americans and few if any in british kit.
Couldn't agree more Rick. I think it is a strange phenomenon that everybody always dresses up as GI's. I just felt really hurt at the cinema and the results speak louder than a propaganda film. Our Mulberry lasted !!!

Just returned from a holiday in Normandy. We had a generally pleasant time. We visited the Arromanches 360 degree cinema. We were working from west to east and had previously visited St Mere Eglise, Utah beach, Point du Hoc and Omaha beach to name but a few. I could understand why these museums were exclusively American, because these were American landing areas. We visited the cinema and when it was only half way through the performance I felt saddened and somewhat angry. To the uneducated amongst us brought up on Hollywood's version of world war 2 (which is not much different from the average American's) the 'movie' would be fine, showing the US army liberating France side by side with the Free French. Maybe my great uncle was lying about his part in the Overlord campaign because we along with the other commonwealth forces deserved barely a mention. The other half enjoyed it because it was entertainment, but it was no more than this. I hope nobody thinks that I am anti-American, which I certainly am not but I am aggrieved that us Brits don't seem to get anything like the same recognition or adolation as the Yanks. Maybe they should have launched Overlord from Baltimore, maybe they did lol.....

Thanks guys. I knew I would find the necessary knowledge here .

Hi all. I am looking at a very attractive Ford built 1942 Jeep on Ebay at the moment. I am looking for a Jeep at the moment and a Ford in preference. However the vendor states that the early Ford GPWs were built on Willys chassis.
Is this correct because I thought I knew a bit about Jeeps but didn't have any knowledge of this. Could someone put me straight on this please because there are many Jeep gurus who know infinately more than myself.

Hi all. I am taking the missus to Normandy in Spring next year. Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay at. Also as it is a while since I last visited, what are the best parts to visit?
Cheers,
Richard.

I would hate to see us buying Rafale. I cannot accept that we have to buy French aircraft.

If it is a ZF gearbox (probably an S5-42 transmission) there will be an aluminium plate with the spread of ratios stamped on it. 5th gear is usually an overdrive ratio of between 0.80 and 0.70.
Well we had a good morning, got some batteries and some diesel, bled the fuel system. We also screwed an oil pressure gauge in place of the broken light switch, sorted out the wiring for the starter and solenoid also checked the stop solenoid was working, that was all ok so went for a start.First we tried the starter briefly to see if the engine would turn over, ok.
Then we connected the stop solenoid and cranked again had a bit of cough and splutter, ok.
So this time it was a try till it started, with a couple of revolutions it picked up and was running without any throttle, good oil pressure too at tick over the gauge was giving a steady 45 psi, good.
How can I find out the gear ratios for the gearbox which is fitted to it ?

What a shame. They will never make these again.....:-(

Selling the Ark Royal off is a disgrace. It is not 'lifed' and it should not have been decommissioned until the Queen Elizabeth class carriers were in service. I find it embarrassing to be British at the moment, can we not afford an aircraft carrier ???

Wow. Most of my favourite aeroplanes in one show. This must be one of the best shows ever, to my way of thinking. Just needs a B26 Marauder....

What a lovely Militant. I think it looks nice in NATO green. I am sure they must have been this colour in service.....
