  1. i work for Renault uk, so we get alot of fuel mix, its one the main reasons i want one. As we pay to get the mix fuel taken away! i may even be able to twist the MD into paying me! haha

Im glad to hear that it simple to road register them, I heard alot of bad things when i wanted to reg my humber pig. About inspections and things from the DVLA. Even when i went to the office they said some one would be out to view and would cost me, a few days later i got all the Doc's and reg through the post.

I have not worked on Tracked vehicles yet so its a bit daunting, but have always wanted a tracked AFV. I have a full renault van workshop so im sure i can do most the stuff i need as well as 6 RTE (renault tech experts ) on call, one ex REME. I have a fair good mech knowledge as well. just the more help the better!

From what i hear the whole powerpack comes out in a cage anyhows, so work on the engine should be quite easy. Just the track is going to be new to work on, but they pull themselves on new tracks from what i have been told

    hi

If you need any advice on working on fv 432s running gear and most things 432 related and things to look out for when buying one ill be only to happy to help

    regards

  2. I registered our 432 as

    Body Type: Special Mobile Unit

    Wheelplan: tracks

I filled out the form, they gave me a tax disc. The tax class is Historic and there shouldn't be a question about that. Nobody asked about the steering/braking system, everyone says it's supposedly illegal yet nobody has proof. As long as you've got the blue from 645 you should be ok. That form in essence says the vehicle was used on the road by the MoD, if they can use it on the road then so can you.

Honestly the number of people who have trouble registering vehicles, or pass on rumours about not being able to register this or that is rediculous. The best way to do it is to assemble all the documents you need, fill in a V55 and then go to the local DVLA office. Give the person on the counter as little information as possible. I'm sure pitching up with a photo of a tank and saying 'register this' causes far more problems than handing over a completed form and letting them get on with it.

If anyone wants to pay me I will gladly start a vehicle registration service!

hi chris well youve got my vote also to starting up an registration service im going to be registering my 432s soon so can you tell me what forms i need to get or do i just need a v55 form x2 my 434 is under the catagory (vehicle type) crawler would that be ok to use that as description when getting the others catagorised ?

    regards

  4. Alvis did offer an upgrade package for Scorpion at one time. This INCLUDED a motor & gearbox for powered traverse. If you are going to Bletring, have a chat with the Alvis AFV Society Boys!

    Mike

What a great idea ! im not able to get to beltring this year as im moving house but i will contact the alvis fighting vehicle society asap

    Thanks

  5. I think you will know if it's missing or not - just try turning the turret!

this turret traverse gearbox allows you to change direction of turret doesnt it if thats what you mean then yes ive already got one.

    cheers

  6. Hi im not sure that they would ban the ownership of military vehicles as we could say in our defense we greatly contribute to the fuel revenue especialy during the show season all the filling stations ive filled up in whether it be my mv parked next to the pumps or a mass of jerry cans they always address me with a grin so they should realise this before blundering into a banning policy !

  7. Hi the oppitunity of buying a fox has recently been waved under my nose and i have a few questions how do the foxs compare to the ferret in driving, reliability, and ease of maintainance ?

And there have been alot of people on occasion in hearing distance at shows who dont like foxes are they prone to rolling over and do they eat gearboxes ? and what is the fuel consuption as compared to the ferret, and is the jaguar j60 a fragile engine compared to b60 and is it preselect gearbox as well ? if i have upset current fox owners i do apologise i have never seen a fox run let alone been inside one its a vehicle that i know nothing about but they do interest me greatly so i dont know whether i have my head full of negitive rumours and jaundiced opinions or are they fact ?

I would be very grateful for any info about these vehicles from a potential buying point of view also what do i look out for when viewing and test driving a fox ?

    many

    thanks

  8. Hi folks

Heres a question for you ! if you owned a collection of vehicles or just the one, which country in the world would allow you to step foot on its soil whilst bringing your mechanised baggage(as my misses calls it ) with you .

We recently went to cyprus on holiday and while the temperature soared to 40 degrees i was chewing on a shisk kebab and thinking im not sure about changing road wheels , tracks, or engine pack in this weather.i know that there is someone in spain who has a cvrt spartan and flys about the countryside what terrain to use it in ! And I thought about scandinavia but with 24 hours of darkness in winter mmmm maybe not . Australias out as i dont want to open the hatch on one of my vehicles and find a king brown curled up and looking at me annoyed even though hes nicked my seat .

The only country that fits the bill for me is Turkey ie being able to buy a house with land for a realistic price and they seem to be the most relaxed country in the middle east . But i wonder what their policies are with privately owned vehicles being brought into the country even though the armaments are deactivated or would they say a catagorical no ?

This is a subject that resides in the back of my mind and it comes up every once in a while in conversation .

So can any of you out there shed some light on this subject ?

    cheers

  9. As far as land rovers are concerned if it goes wrong then i know its easy to fix , land rovers character lies in being utilitarian not complicated so ill take a series or a military defender over any jap ,usa or european 4x4 anyday my neighbour who bought an isuz used to remark why have you bought land rovers they rot and are uncomfortable two weeks later his fuel pump went it had to be ordered in from korea i drove past him in my artic defender and said what the matter your 4x4 off the road ? he looked sheepish and said yeah for 2 months .

    i rest my case !:cool2:

  10. plenty of kerbs.... no need for a sleeper,..... Every time I do a prom, I reckon I upstage just about every other method of 'novelty conveyance'... an R.A.F helicopter came to one I did last year, but had to land a distance away, so nobody got to see it really..... but I took up almost all th driveway hee, hee!:cool2:

saracens also make great wedding transport!:shocked::-D

She really is gorgeous quite a prizewinner and the ribbons really set it off. Dare i ask how much petrol youve got through doing these proms ? Some one told me off once at a fuel station, Namely a small man in a small car when i filled up my ferret at tescos he said i should be ashamed about my carbon foot print and what im doing to the environment. I said i dont fly abroad for my hols do you? he went quiet so i then added my bloody carbon foot prints probably lower than yours so let me have my fun . he went red ! has this happened to you yet ? or is it just cambridgeshire !

  11. id love to take her on but ive not enough room in my barn now got too many tracked vehicles in there but ill mention it to my mate who army truck mad maybe he ll put in a bid whats the price do you reckon she ll go for ?

  12. Eventually maybe but not for a long time. If Chieftain is anything to go by price tag will probably be quite cheap (relative to what you get) but buying it is only half the battle - then you have to store it, find spares, fuel it and transport it....

Well im 34 now so how old am i going to be when one comes up for sale ? for me it will be worth the hassle of logistics not sure what the misses will think :nut:

  13. Hi to all those who own simitar, sabre, scorp, fox

Could any of you out there tell me if the turret traverse on the the above vehicles is just manual or electrical or both,

And the big question that i have is that if the above vehicles turret traverse is electrical could i fit the same unit to a fv432 with rarden turret ? if it is possible how easy is it to fit and wire up ?

    cheers

  14. Well after a long period of weighing up the pros and con ive decided to to go for the chieftian 2000 as after some of you have rightly mentioned it would be easier just to get a mk 10 or an chieftain arrv thats a known runner, And hopefully later on in the near future i will be able to acquire enough space and money to own and run successfully one of these green and black bruts .

Thank you all for giving me advice about this vehicle over the time that i put up my request about the said vehicle .

im really grateful for your input on the subject .

    regards

    cameron
