  1. It is just as I suspected, the DAF is the unloved one of the two and will likely evaporate into obscurity in 20 years time while we will see scads of MJs forever.

I wish our MJs had a tilting cab, I have often wondered how hard it would be to retrofit a kit to make that happen.

Not if i and my misses have anything to do with it i wont have a bad word said against my daf and at 165 pounds for 12 months tax im thinking of getting another one Cheaper than my land rover 110 So a comms body variant with a winter heating system is on the list for me !

i at present own a gs standard cargo variant or troop carrier which im using to move house in ,But the thats getting comandeered by my misses whos now joined the ta royal logistics and all those in her troop love the daf as much as i do and dont want to have anything to do with mjs .

In my view mjs look nice and classic at shows but i personally wouldnt touch one with a barge pole ! Reliablity and ease of maintainance and driveablity is paramount for me and i do love the solid look of a daf its utilitarian but i love it !

  2. For me my favorite war films are ! Catch 22 (because i have an absolute thing about b25s AHHHH sex on two engines) , Das boot, Play dirty, Battle of britain, Eagle has landed , Kellys heros , and Cross of iron,

The thing with battle of the bulge is though its a great xmas war film and altough its filmed in spain and uses all american armour on both sides somehow it shows something correct how useless medium tanks were against heavy tanks and how in this case m24 chaffees that played the sherman tanks were scarficed on mass to grind down the german armour so to me its not all that bad.

But id rather watch the battle of the bulge than steven spielburghs oversentimental naieve rubbish anyday are there going to be anymore war films made in the future that dont have anything to do with spielburgh and tom hanks (WOULD BE A REFRESHING CHANGE ! )

And i do like a bridge to far very much but why oh why did livingstone make the USA the heros of operation market garden to an extent, and portay the british troops as a load tea drinking hooray henrys ! Our troops and the rest of the countrys that took part polish, aussies, canadians, new zealanders south africans, Bless em were all in the thick of the fighting thoughout most of the war in air land and sea and always thrown into the most desperate of situations.

Can we have a war film please that addresses balance for once !

  3. Thought id ask the question on here as i visit milweb on a daily basis i ask my self why is it that some vehicles on there sell in less than 24 hours and others sit for months Are people very picky these days when it comes to buying a military vehicle ? or has the market overall slowed down considerably because of fuel prices and this economic climate ,And why oh why do people put a vehicle up for sale on there mention everything about the vehicle but dont put a price i find this as irritating as people saying offers !

its just a few questions that have recently got me scratching my head over !

  4. Hi can anyone tell me as theres not much left in one of my vehicles. Where i can aquire the vynil covered sponge padding that fv430 series vehicles have,Ive been looking into the option of self adhesive horsebox padding but this has come to a dead end as no one knows who does it in my locality, Idealy i would like to get hold of 2 great sheets of the padding which is already vinyl covered and self adhesed on the back and cut it to shape Any one know where i can get hold of this stuff from in order to finish off my fv434

    Thanks

  5. I have been reading this article with great interest and on my first visit to war and peace seeing the various german reenactors made me think as to how near we came to german armed forces fighting in our countryside and losing our way of life and our freedom to a dictator but my attitude on wether we should allow the uniforms of people that committed attrocites is that we need to remember what they did and that we shouldnt sanitise what happened in history or if we do how far would we want to take it im sure the avro lancaster in the bbmf upsets a few germans for what they did over dresden and cologne are we going to remove all ww2 aircraft from the publics view ? just in case it upsets a few !

Personaly military vehicle shows need to show all aspects of military history not just onesided aspects or we will deny future generations the history of our time and forget what some of our family members did for us in the decades that came before .

And if the day ever came that i was lucky enough to ever own a piece of german ww2 armour i would take it to a show and wear the correct uniform to go with the vehicle i would wear that uniform for display purposes and not to antagonise or upset fellow entusiasts or the general public ,

If you are upset by seeing army uniforms of different nationalitys and most of them have committed attrocitys in varying degrees no armed force in everybodys eyes is squeaky clean as far as their historys are concerned, Then why are you at the show in the first place !

Most of the people there that wear these uniforms like playing soldiers and having the chance to realise a battle for themselves and to be part of something historically authentic and enhancing the vehicle that they came in on thats all Granted that there maybe those want to project themselves politicaly but these people should not be encouraged if they persist with issues that could lead to extremeist antics and so forth .

You may or may not agree with what ive written but it is just my view point on the matter !

  6. Thanks for that 65 pounds mmmm better be a good conversion for that do you know what the mouldings are like ? not all disproportionate and fit badly like verlinden ones which ive found to be the case in the past i want it to be spot on as the only reason im doing this kit is because i cant get hold of the real thing:mad: All the ones ive seen i either way to expensive or are not up too much mechanicaly or even both so it will be set on a diorama and ill just have to dream for now

Thanks for letting us know about this kit ill ring them tomorrow and question them about it

    cheers

  7. Hi i am now in the process building a 1/35 th scale chieftian by tamiya which is a mark 5 and im wanting to modify it to a mk 11 spec does anyone know whats the best way of replicating the stillbrew armour on the turret did think of milliput but what else could i use ? And are there any other differances to these two marks as far as other kit and fixings .

Any info will be gratefully recieved

    cheers

  8. sadly croc is right re the lawyers but I do feel amber flashing lights are worth using when you are an unusual load...ie slow travelling, or large or awkward to see....a flashing amber light can be used during daylight hours for the above reasons...it should not be used at night...although I still do in certain places, ie country roads. etc..

fair comment paul but all the flashing beacons that i have on my military vehicles are wired into the lighting circuit and come on when you switch side lights on and remain on when you switch to full beams Have i now got rewiring to do on my hands ? to make my vehicle legal for driving at night ?

  9. Well my cat casper oversees most of my work, wether its lounging about on anything comfortable cam nets, etc or sunning himself on the roofs of my vehicles , hes always there encouraging me Bless him !

  13. Very sad - anything else I would want to say will fall foul of the "P" word.

    Nimrod - gone

    Harrier - gone

    Tornado - going

    Chally 2 - going

    Britain's defence capability ........ ????

WTF Chally 2 is getting sold off or scrapped ? when did they anounce this ? they surely cant be getting rid of englands last piece of wonderful engineering its as british as the bulldog and i dont mean the fv432 bulldog :) so after that whats it going to be pitch forks and shotguns for our countrys defense ?

  14. Well done shes a real credit to both of you that built her , do you make other aircraft of this scale or is this one a one off ?

And can i ask what happened to the real flak bait wasnt she based at bury st edmunds in suffolk before 1944 ?

    cheers
