  1. Clive, on a second look at the plate, I now think its a repro., and the date, which I did not notice, is not stamped the U.S. way.

    But its still a early truck and a little more rare of having banjo axles fitted, as you know most SWB trucks were split axles.

  2. Came across the following parts recently,con rods and pistons, but not able to indentfi what engine they fit, hoping someone on here might help out?, the con rods are marked G147 which I understand is International Halftrack, you can see more information on attached picture. The pistons may or may not have anything to do with the con rods, there was a label under the protective coating which reads:

     

    SPFD 2732

    PT.NO. E1 ADKN 6102 C

    QTY 1

     

    The crown measures 3 7/8", 4 rings above gudgeon pin and 1 below, the skirt has 2 splits, a arrow and the word front is marked on piston crown, the letter F is done in the same way as Ford Jeep marked.

  3. Hi and a Happy New Year

     

    According to articals written by Bryce Sunderlin, the alloy carb. was the used on the early trucks, but there was a problem because the air filter would become loose and even fall off, there was even a modification by fitting a support bracket from the cylinder head but they then went to the cast carb., a stronger unit, where the air cleaner bolts to the carb. and overcame that problem but this carb. did not perform as well.

    So it could be said if you have a alloy carb. fitted this would out perform a truck fitted with a cast carb.??

  4. Many thanks for the reply, looks like I will try one of these welders, probaly go for a less powerful option, as I already own a stick welder and not so sure if my home electrical system will have the power.

    It will only be used for welding sheet metal on a GMC CCKW cab I am restoring.

    Will let you know how I get on, once I have purchased a welder.

  5. Anyone out there had experience with no-gas mig welders, are they good or bad?, thinking of buying one of these welders to use in my home garage, as it will only be used now again I think this would be a better option then renting bottle required for a regular mig welder.

    Would only be welding 16 to 18 gauge metal.

  6. This is probaly a long shot, but, I have a Dodge Carryall that needs transporting to Mechelen area of Belgium, in December, anyone out there wanting to transport a vehicle back from Belgium, taking Carryall out?, sharing costs.

My Carryall came to a halt to-day, engine just spluttered and stopped, when the hood was lifted, fuel was pouring from throttle spindle, after being towed back to the yard, carb. was removed and stripped, could not see any obvious fault, but suspect float/needle valve problem. After re-assembly and refitting, all was o/k again, although not test driven, will be going to Beltring in just over a week, as any one else had a similar problem??

     

    Carb. is a Zenith, black ' coffee pot' type.

  8. How much was the Carryall offered to you for?, was this a 1/2 or 3/4 ton?, so much depends on work required and how complete it is, some parts are very difficult to source

     

    I bought a 3/4 ton Carryall in 1996, to restore, my eyes are still watering!!, I thought majority of parts were there, wrong, never listen to a dealer, any some 8 years later it did make the road.

I bought a closed cab shop van a few years ago, which has still to take to the road!, I discovered it started life with a open cab, so to keep it all original, a deal was done and the closed cab was swapped with a mint open cab, but now I have had a change of heart and think the shop van looks better with a closed cab, so at this time I am restoring a closed cab in my home garage, and at some point, hopefully, will fit this restored back on the shop van, but..................

  10. Recently aquired two 7.50 x 50 bar tread tyres on rims, which I intend to use tyres & tubes on a CCKW, but the rims as you will see from the pictures, are unusual, can any one indentify them?, they are stamped ' K.H. Made in U.S.A.' and the number 53, which could be a year date?.

    As I need to remove tyres & tubes, I do not know how to strip down the rims, athough there could be a locking ring in the rim centre, just visable in one picture.
