Try to get hold of Jeep Pictorial,by John Havers,ISBN 0 946784 70 1. Excellent pictures of RAF jeeps. They all have an RAF roundle on the bonnet and below the windscreen instead of the invasion star. If you have no luck finding the book I will download the pictures. These jeeps were serving in the Balkans and in France after D day. John.

Tony, I know the one you mean, it had bicycle type spoked wheels. The SPA may well be based on the one you refer to. The TL37 has a rigid frame and all four wheels steer and it had four propshafts. John.

Stefano,I used to own the perfect vehicle for mountainous roads in Italy.It was a Fiat SPA TL37 Artillery tractor, far in advanced engineering to British or American towing vehicles of WWII. It had four wheel drive, four wheel steering, a dif lock lever which,if you missed a gear on steep ground the diff locked and you would not roll back but it allowed you to engage the forward gear and moove off.I was lucky to meet a number of British gunner vets who had used them in North Africa, they said that the SPA was a godsend in the Desert. +I was sure that there was a series of articles in the Windscreen mag. by John Mastrangelo,so dug out my back nos. and inissue 97-+, winter of 2002 he has a lot of info about signs on post wwii vehicles, I seem to remember he dis a series of articles on div, formation signs.Also Clive wrote in the Summer 2000 issue 87 an excellent article on paint colours and positioning of various signs. If you google them you will find that there is a section on Rsigs attached as well as RE attached, that is as far as I looked. The cloth formation signs come up quite often on ebay military sites, glad I could be of help, John.

IV Guards Brigade did exist, look them up on Google. Pictured below are two versions of their formation sign. One is woven cotton and the other is silk. John.

Good idea? Bad idea? Thinking vehicles like GMC or Jeep which are not used weekly, and so always require priming or, if no hand primer on lift pump, cranking over to get fuel up.

 

Problems with over pressuring? If so, how to resolve?

Keep existing mechanical pump or bypass?

What about availability of 6v pumps?

recommended makes - e.g. S.U. pumps?

I have used SU pumps on all my jeeps with no problems at all,took off the mechanical one and blanked off the hole. I nrun my jeeps on 12 volts. John.

Thankyou Jack for all the hard work you and your team put into this event. I go to very few shows thesdays, but a chance to do the road run was something that was a rare opertunity to take part in.What a success it was, all the public dotted about in the remotest of places taking photos, waving and enjoying themselves.The wonderful sounds of 60+ year old engines barking up the hills without a breakdown as far as I know, a tribute to the owners and drivers. Last but not least, because the road run would not have been so freeflowing at all the road junctions and roundabouts, are the Dispatch riders. A smooth textbook operation of how to escort50 vehicles through the lanes and major roads of West Dorset. I was driving my jeep and to hear the bikes coming up from the rear was music to my ears. Our mutual friend Alex had the same noise in his Humber box on the way back from Yeovil. Turned out to be the exhaust manifold had a small crack, might pay to look in that direction. John.

I have a copy of the manual for the 80wat charging set acquired from the Sigs. museum in Blandford. Also the stowage layout for a jeep, dinner has arrived so will post later. John.

You are correct regards the wheels, the gun barrel has the Danish Coat of arms on it. In the book G patrol, book abour G sqn. LRDG it is mentioned that they were issued with these anti-tank guns and used them in the portee role. John

Fraid not. Certainly not any formation sign of regular units within the British army. Many home guard units had formation signs that only they wore, Cornish HG wore about 10 different signs. But your local unit museum may know, John.

Slightly confused here. I am not sure whether you wish to badge up the austin as a vehicle serving in 49th. div. in NW Europe or badge it up as a D of W homeguard unit vehicle. John.

Once a vehicle goes into service, especially in WWII all sorts of alterations were made. Below are some pictures of vehicles used by The Kinema Corps in Greece in 1946. They never came out of the factory looking like this. One of my jeeps has the drivers seat set back by about 6 inches, much more easy to drive. This was done in service and not after release. I have no problem with people who add bits and pieces to their pride and joy as long as it is a feasible addition and not a flight of fantisy.The thing that still gets to me after 30 plus years in this game is Hotchkiss jeeps done up as WWII Yank ones. The yellow battle axe on black background is for the 78th. Div. The white 50 on blue is for the 50th. Company Royal Engineers.A Google search will give you all the info. on this hard fighting Div. John.

On a previous post I said that I had found a military circular saw bench. I have now got the remains home and although there was a circular saw blade on it, the data plates say something different. I hope the pictures below will give all the info. On the previous post some members went to great trouble to post up pictures of circular saw benches and I am now hoping that some pictures of a Gas producing trailor will turn up. John.
