  1. Hi all

whilst driving back from BB yesterday, my mind was wandering (dangerous I know!!!). I was wondering how I could improve my display, and I remembered reading on a forum somewhere of somebody who wanted to buy a 1970's/80's caravan and repaint it as a recruitment caravan, does anybody know if this happened? Reason being, I quite fancy the idea myself, but it would be RAF Regiment instead of army/marines etc.

Has anybody got any piccys taken at county shows in the 80's etc showing these caravans?

  2. This is a follow up on my pics. of the radar station on Stonebarrow. Post war Boscombe down operated a Radar station on the same area but well away from the cliff edge. These pictures are of the last remaining Radar site trailor, unused for 30 years. Showing what salt air will do, also a picture of a WD marked G.P.O. insulator picked up alongside the trailor.

  3. One of my jeeps is marked up 61, for the 4th. Dorsets, another one is marked up with the red over blue with the number 43 superimposed, and the Wessex Wyvern. This is in memory of the 112th. (Wessex) Field Regiment R.A. They shot the 5th. Dorsets into their objectives from hill112 in Normandy up to the Rhine at Arnhem where they

fired in support of the 4th. Dorsets in their attempt to relieve the Paras.

  4. The 43rd. Div. is a Westcountry Div. The 4th. and 5th. Dorsets served in the 43rd. A number of my relatives served in the Dorsets that is the reason. And before you tell me I know that the Glosters were the 43 rd.Reccy Reg.. John

  5. I found that website on goggle for the 262 coy but when i tried to enter it wanted to down load somthing and then wanted me to sign, i note you have save some photos from it so is it safe. At this moment i declined as i do not fully understand the reason why

These photos were sent to me by John Church a few years ago, so I cannot help with your download problem. sorry, John

  6. Thanks John. Probably a bleedin obvious question to those who have rebuilt an MB engine but this is my first one. I seem to have a long and a short one. One is obviously going to the timing chain cover. Wasnt sure where the other went.

Rick, Typing mistake, top pipe goes to No.20 in first picture. No.28 on second pic. is where the oil pressure gauge connects

  7. hi heres one for you all , does anyone know anywhere where i can get any spare parts for the luaz 969m many thanks ,,,,:coffee:

If you go into the German ebay motoring section these motors and spares turn up. Also look in German ebay Schwimmwagen site, the amphibious ones do turn up there.

  8. I was led to believe that the kink in the handle, allows it to be hooked onto a towhook of a vehicle.

Granted there would be virtually no lock, before the corners of the trailer hits the corners of the Jepp/ whatever.

If this is not so, what do you think is the reason for this kink? It seems to make manufacture more difficult, and it doesn't make it any easier to manhandle, does it?

The kink in the handle at both ends is to allow a toggle rope to be attached to either pull or restrain the basket when going down hill, so I was informed by ex airborne vet. He didnt think they were ever used in theater but were seen into the 1960s on the airborne base carrying a variety of kit from place to place.Nevertheless a rare and interesting airborne piece of WWII kit.

My wife bought this ex military thingy from Ramco, not knowing what it was. They called it a truck barrow, but I am lead to believe that it was a vehicle trailer used by airborn forces and could be used behind Champ/jeep/ Land-Rover etc.

More info welcome. Including de-ciphering the code on the wheel??? please.

Very nice piece of WWII airborne equipment. Hand cart/ wheelbarrow to be pulled by hand, not a trailor as such. There should be hooks at the four bottom corners where you could attach toggle ropes to assist in hand hauling.I have one and yours is only the second one I have seen in 20 odd years.Mind you I dont get about much.
  10. You beat me to it.

Make use of and enjoy your legal rights while you have them.

Theres a lot more for you to lose yet.

Like working on your own vehicles without training and certification.

Ok you laugh its on its way.

Whether your driving on a car licence, claiming Mot exempt.

towing things around the arena, lifting things in demos.Blowing up things

I would suspect the majorty are doing it in the confines of the law.

You may not be certificated and you may not get your work checked out by someone who is.This doesnt mean your a danger to every other bugger around you.I believe in Education not Legislation. How many families have been wiped out by the unlicenced ,mot exempt mv owner.

Heres a good one for the people who like certificates of competence and rd worthyness.I roar around the solent un licenced untrained at 40 mph weighing 14 tns sinking dingys swamping poor little willy in his rubber ring

a real danger to all at sea.Of course i dont, no more than large mv owners do on the rd.

For most our life savings are in what we have thats why we educate our selves to be competent.

I have some symphathy with BP as i think there are more reasons being voiced against using the legal right and the question is why not use it if it is legal.I believe if you have what you believe to be a understanding of the the law in question, you are not in ignorance of the law, therefor a successful case against you could be in doubt.

I would also like to say ,John theres only room for one catweazle on here:stop::rofl:

Thanks catweaslr, I have had a lousey day and I read all this and burst out laughing. Feeel much better now, thanks. John

  11. Blackpowder, I bow to your experience... I'm a mine of useless information and I'll offer some more soon no doubt. :-D

Being as the first posting in this thread was in 2005 it may be a bit late but having been a lurker on the G503 forums for quite some time now, I've read many people that don't recommend using sealing 'potions' as although they may block a crack, they can also block places that you wouldn't want blocked. Is this reasonable or scaremongering something that's unlikely to happen? just out of curiosity.

    cheers

    Stuart

If you can easily get to any external crack then I would stitch it. This causes no stress to the metel, I did my jeep which had a crack in the usual place above the distributor, caused when tightening up the head, stitching is very easy, just add rad seal to cover any very minor seepage that may occur.Pouring any sort of gunk into the radiator may cause more problems. Always remember gunk may fill the existing fault, but the fault may extend itself in time.Stitching binds both sides of the fault . Hope this helps. John

  12. All my objections are already posted, perhaps you may have missed them , I was aware of the definition, when I made my first post. I have only just got round to posting it for everyone, to bring it closer to my comments on it, so that people can see my objection side by side with the definition. The definition is the basis for all my objections. see previous posts

In particular, Re your idea of using a beaver tail to move a half-track see my post #72.

Half track if you look at what I said in my letter to the dvla it in I said it washypothetical one. Used as an example to the person I was talking. I do not own a half track never have never will. you said in one of your posts, do not rember the exact words, but on the lines that I implied that you were an idiot. Dont need to you are doing a great job on your own

  13. Not up on this sort of thing but the exemption is for Non Commercial Bodies only,

so would think that an operators licence was not required..

    Not sure about plating?

The wording: would suggest the exemption is not for individuals but aimed at Charities etc.

You are wriggling around trying to find pitfalls and the passage is quite clear, in subsection ii,articles required etc. nothing anywhere to say charities or any other body, club, nothing. I am beginning to wonder if you can read 28 simple words and understand them, both you and antarmike seem hellbent to twist all sorts of redherrings into this permission that patently are not there. I am an ex Police officer and my son is a serving one, I asked him to look into this and he asked the Traffic prosecution department to look at the legislation using my hypothetical half track as an example. I will post their reply when I can find my wife and get her to get it out of my computer.
