Caustic soda followed by steam cleaner fired into the block. John.

In my time in the job it was an offence not to display tax disc on the vehicle. John.keep mine in docs folder -
The formation sign appears to be that of the 24th. infantry Brigade which post WWII became (I think) the 24th. Air mobile brigade It was in the colours of the brigade of Guards, dark blue background with dark red wings on a red, blue bar. I have one in my collection but cannot put pictures on here but will email picture if you want one, John. If you go into ebay u.k. in the search box and put in 110933570562 you will see the badge I have tried to describe. John.

good advice on the crankshaft re grind. I allways used one engineer to do all sleeving replacement or crankshaft grinding, but on one occasion I went elswhere , all seemed o.k. so rebuilt engine with all new bearings and oil seals
The engine started o.k. but within a minute oil was leaking out of the oil seals. Stripped the engine and the sump had grinding paste in the oil. The grinder had not flushed out the oilway in the crankshaft, all bearings and seals were ruined, so be carefull, John.

Clive, if anything comes up that you think can be answered by using info from my emers please go ahead and publish them, as you know there is a wealth of info. on jeeps in them, John. Here you are John. I didn't like to post it up myself without your say-so as it originates from your archives. For those who take an interest in EMERs it is interesting to note that the V section of EMER WHEELED VEHICLES is not exclusively wheeled armour!

I have been running my jeeps with the solex carb for 30odd years and cannot recall any problems atall. John.John - have you found the 'hot starting' vapour lock issues less noticeable with the Solex units?Tony
-
In my EMER files the carburetter in use in 1946 as a replacement for the Carter carb. was the Solex type 32 AIC part no. 32A.I.C./S 1370---LV7/MT.12/SX/32.AIC/S. 1370. I have used these carbs in all my jeeps and have bought some from hochkis jeep owners who want to fit the carter carb, Because I have never fathomed out how to post pictures on here I would email the relative page giving all the details you want if you contact me, failing that I loaned Clive Elliot the EMERS and perhaps he would post up the relevant page from his copy. John.

I would guess that you have the wrong mixture setting on your carb if you have that much soot coming from the exhaust, John.

Known as hats A.K. after the hats worn by the German Africa corps in North Africa. On page 126 of Otto von Pivka book on armies of the middle east he has a picture of the gunners of 7 Battery Royal Horse Artillery wearing these hats while serving in the Trucial Oman, also believed worn by Paras in Bahrein. John.

Very important tip. When you come to reinsert the valve collets stuff a rag in each of the holes alongside the valve guides to stop a collet dissapearing down the hole and into the sump, John.

It is very easy to stitch your block yourself. I wrote a detailed post on here when I first joined but have no idea how to find it.Do it yourself and save £. p.m me if you want a detailed advice on how to do this, John.Shortly after I got my jeep last year I discovered the block had a crack in it. It had been rather well glassed over. this weekend I took time out to strip the remaining resin off and discovered a fairly large bodged up weld job. It all underneath the distributor. Not stitched that I can see, but some of the weld is now cracked too :embarrassed:.Bodged up a repair with a bit of JB weld and it's stopping the water leaking for now.
Question is what are my options ?
If its a case of a replacement block any ideas where I would look for one ?

Try Albert Jagger Ltd, they have the most comprehensive list of fittings and fixtures that I have come accross. John.

I have just bought two replacement convex mirrors for my military wing mirrors from Vintage supplies £12 plus £4 postage, this might be a cheaper option against resilvering. They do two different size mirrors, John.

I hope someone on here may remember this vehicle. Working on the principle of a 1989 sierra estate in this picture, im saying this was taken late 89 onwards!!!! The markings of red/blue square with a dove in hand suggest HQ Royal Artillery markings, but I can not find dove in hand in any reference to suggest which unit. The other marking on the front also is a blank to me.
I am informed the photo was taken at Budge`s yard. A friend owns the chassis, appears now to be fitted with a AEC diesel engine
The dove in hand is the formation sign for the 92nd. AGRA (TA) I will look up the sign on the offside and let you know what it is, John.

The crew are wearing AFV helmets and they seem to be wearing tankers overalls with the hood attached, John.
